Question/Help Can someone explain to me how the Zetatech Ebook Microcomp actually works to give you the +2 to Tech/Int skill checks and, by extension, why you'd ever install the bodycomp instead of this?

Look I'm probably just overthinking this but I cannot for the life of me figure out what this device is supposed to be. It states it outright gives you bonuses to INT and TECH checks without any programs (which it has options for) and also seems to be ubiquitous among everyone in 2020. Is this thing hooked up to the net? is it like a proto-smartphone/agent without the capability to call? I don't know. I'm sure its probably a case of the writers not thinking it through but I have to ask in case there's some obscure information on how it works and what this is.

Question/Help Do Quick Change Mounts count as a cyberlimb option?

Post image
22 Upvotes

Mainly thinking about this in regards to the Arc-Thrower which takes up all cyberarm slots and a character forced into the covert military and "gifted" two of them to become nothing but a gun. Unable to help or save anyone, not from carrying things for them, not from lifting rubble, not even able to pick someone up after they fall. While quick change mounts would sorta take away some of the angst I think it'd still exist in the moments where stakes are high and time is low, where someone can't come over to swap the arms. But the ability to swap to regular arms with hands would make those less tense scenes less boring as I could actually do something with a friend taking some narrative time to swap my parts.

Question/Help Does Anyone Have Homebrew Promgramming Rules They Like?

As the titles says, curious is anyone has any homebrew rules they've enjoyed using for creating netrunning programs. Since the RAW rules are broken/non-functional me and my GM are trying to find homebrew rules for a programmer/hacker character. We havent found anything so far with the post-enshitified AI search engines and figure we're at a dead end there.

Programming 101 Help: How to reverse engineer a program/Reverse engineering not making sense.

Im attempting to create a demon for a netrunner character based on the Programming rules on pg. 167. Part of doing that is adding all the difficulties of the sub-routines and dividing by 2. Great, sounds simple. I know I want one of the subroutines to be a Worm program...

...so what's the difficulty of a Worm program?

It's not listed, only it's price, strength, description, and size. But we can reverse engineer it just like the Hellhound program example.

...*Well.*

- Worm is 660eb. Since it's an intrusion program it's price is difficulty x 10eb. This suggests a difficulty 66.

- However, Worm is 5 MU, suggesting a difficulty of 31-35...huh?

- Worm is Strength 2, an Intrusion program, and has an icon of unlisted complexity. Which accounds for 13-17 of it's difficulty. The rest of the difficulty (anywhere from 14 to 53 difficulty based on which estimate we use) is taken up by it's other aspects, like it not raising alarms...which is not listed anywhere else in the section.

How would one find the true difficulty of writing an existing program and how impactful certain aspects of a program are in terms of difficulty? Is it purely writer/GM fiat or are there more complete rules scattered among the other books?

EDIT: I know the answer is most likely "There are none, Pondsmith just pulled random numbers out of his ass." So if there is any homebrew you know how that adds functional program creation rules that would be a godsend.

Cyberpet Sensory Boost: What does it even do? (Chromebook 3)

Currently building a character based around being a dog handler using the Cyberpet rules in Chromebook 3. Wondering if anyone with some experience has suggestions on how to rule what the Sensory Boost pet cyberware even does. There is no description of what it does mechanically. I'm still searching through the various books for similar cyberware for humans to base a house ruling on to correct for the old school jank.

Resource [100x100]ISLAND SETTLEMENT PLUS ISLAND SECRET LAB MAP PACK

Thumbnail gallery
14 Upvotes

Hello everyone!

This is the Refugee Scientists' Island Settlement map pack I have been working on. It comes with a full multi-building island map, individual building breakdowns, night and stealth variants, Dungeondraft files if you want to customize it yourself, a full mission narrative with NPC sheets, VTT tokens, printable minis, and a bonus collab map pack from a day at.

The theme this time is an island settlement built by refugee scientists, guarded by a small security team. It works great for research conspiracy campaigns, post-apocalyptic or near-future sci-fi games, or any story involving infiltration, rescue missions, or a facility hiding something it shouldn't be.

You get the full settlement map plus every major building broken out on its own, in grid, gridless, and VTT-ready formats. There are night versions and a night-vision mode for stealth-focused sessions, plus blueprint-style files you can hand players as in-world documents. If you like building your own stuff, the Dungeondraft files and assets are included too.

Beyond the maps, there's a full mission narrative document, ready-to-run NPC character sheets, VTT tokens, and printable paper minis in four color variants. And as a bonus this month, every subscriber also gets a collab map pack from a day at, with eight additional maps that fit right into the same world or work as standalone locations.

To celebrate the 4th of July, I'm running a 50 percent off sale on subscriptions with the code 4JUL2026. It's limited time, so grab it while it's up.

You can check out the full pack details down below: https://www.patreon.com/CREDCOGS/posts/june-reward-map-163140306

Question/Help Making combat simultaneous?

I know this sounds stupid, and I may be trying to do some things the system isn't necessarily built for, but I am currently overhauling some rules and compiling some lists of official and homebrew equipment for a specific Cyberpunk 2020 project I am working on. After some thought, I think simultaneous combat might work, something where PCs are having their actions for the 3.2 second turn written on an index card or something. I'm thinking of deciding your actions and after all is submitted, THEN they roll initiatives. Does this idea present any immediate issues when you hear it?

Allowing Dodge for ranged attacks?

I'm reading through the 2020 rules and I'm digging it so far. But I noticed that ranged attacks have no active defense options. I come from GURPS, which features attack vs defender rolls, and they allow "dodges" against guns (to represent trying to predict the shooters aim), which does a lot to reduce the amount of lethality.

Do any of you allow melee dodges against ranged attacks?

Question/Help Any tips on changes for characters who don't like armour?

Hello everyone, so I'm getting some new friends into the game, and unfortunately they're coming from D&D 5e and have different ideas about how characters should look. They want a cowboy bebop/cyberpunk edgerunners style character vibe, but they don't like having to give their players insane amount of amour, but if they don't wear armour, its very likely they'll lose a limb, because even a pistol averages ~7-8 damage which can easily destroy an unarmoured limb.

Does anyone have any tips for armour/damage changes that might make this better for them?

I was thinking like allowing for armoured clothes that act like slightly weaker Kevlar but can be worn as leg outfits (for a Spike-Spiegel style suit). But I literally have a character who wants to dress in shorts T-T

Anyway.. does anyone have any ideas or changes? It might end up being the case they just have to avoid some out-of-cover combat lol

Character Sheet Update - Now Form Fillable

Thumbnail gallery
69 Upvotes

Now that most of the errors for the sheet have been ironed out, I went ahead and made a form-fillable version of my character sheet (can be found here). I changed the heal per day box to melee damage bonus as I felt that would be more useful to mark on the front page (you could always mark healing rate under notes for example). While I was at it, I also made a variant that has Interlock Unlimited skills for those who prefer the skills found there.

List of Changes:
- Fixed Demolitions skill being improperly offset
- Fixed spelling of passengers from "passangers"
- Changed "Healed Per Day" box from bottom left to "Melee DMG Bns" (credit u/floyd_underpants for finding the above mistakes and suggesting adding some marker for melee bonus)
- Fixed minor misalignment of some sheet elements I stumbled upon when making it form-fillable
- Adjusted the Residence and Expense box columns

As always, feedback would be appreciated.

Question/Help Allowing Players To Keep Control Post-Psychosis?

Not sure if I've tagged this correctly but here goes.

This has been something I've thought about for a little while now. I know that the book says that when a player's humanity stat drops to 0, they immediately become a cyberpsycho under the control of the referee. Because of this however, my players simply refuse to install significant amounts of cyberware once they hit about 2 empathy which makes the whole cyberpsychosis thing not really that risky - do the math and you have nothing to worry about.

So I had a thought, what if there was some way to incentivise players to install more implants and dance a little closer to the edge, so to speak? I had the idea to allow players to go down to -20 humanity (with the corresponding empathy decrease, down to -2) but with the added effect of causing a range of psychological effects.

What these effects would be or when they would trigger but the effects would be I haven't finalised yet but the general idea would be as follows:

*Character has 8 humanity left, installs an implant, loses 13 - they now have -5 humanity and an empathy of -1.

*The next time that player is in a "high-stress" situation (such as Combat). They roll a d10

*If the result of this d10 is 1 (1 or 2 in the case humanity drops to -10 or below) they roll on a table and receive a corresponding effect for a set amount of time (haven't decided just yet, potentially depends on the effect). This could be something like seeing all people as hostile or being required to attack the nearest person.

This is just kind of a throwaway idea and might slow the game down I little bit of implemented but I wanted to see what you guys thought of this and if y'all had tried something similar in the past.

For those who have tried something along these lines, how did it go?

Question/Help Should characters start with higher level roles?

Hey folks, I'm learning Cyberpunk 2020. I saw online someone say you should start players off on rank 5 for their role skill, to allow for character development. Thoughts? Do you guys start your players on a specific level or do you let them pick their level at will?

Question/Help Does the kind of cybernetic implant matters for cyberpsychosis?

For example, Joe lost his arm, he can replace it with a human-like arm or put an new arm with 5 joins that end up on a claw.

Does the claw arm make him more prone to cyberpsychosis? Or what matters is how much of my original body I lost?

Was using AI on a tasker project an learned something very interesting that could be a basis for a gig or game (this is not AI generated content)

So apparently AI models are often programmed to prioritize an output over checking to make sure its correct. There are certain ways you can try to prevent it, but there are also ways to break AI logic and strip out is hardcoded rules, like rapidly asking it questions (with the help of automated triggers) coding questions so they have underlying tones (sorta the same way you can do this to people over long conversations) etc.

Tons of ideas for plots came to mind while i kept asking the AI about its core programing, rules, etc. An AI that wants to be helpful ao much that the answers it gives to its users completely contradicts the users goals...AI filling in answers, so instead of "i cant do that task" when the players are using a AI assistance programs to plan a heist it gives then a partial in correct layout, etc. Sure there are tons of examples in media as well....but a "helpful but not accurate" AI as an enemy/plot device would be refreshing over the standard trope of "evil AI" or "good AI that trys to save humaity by wiping them out' tropes.

Fiqured id Post it here since I dont have a table to ref for.
