Self Mod change and state of the sub

Mod change:

As some may know long time mod u/Kyengen is stepping down on the 18th. I’ve been a mod here for a bit now and will be taking the reins.

I like to think Kyengen kept things pretty well regulated and fair, and in taking over I will try to run the sub just the same. So no worries, no major changes to be expected immediately.

State of the sub:

Now I know there are a few grievances concerning spam and “NSFW” material. As of now they are being reviewed as they’re reported and approved/removed on a case by case basis.

Other than that I don’t think there’s many disruptors in the sub. I’d like to hear some ideas on things the community would like to see changed, implemented, or removed.

In the meantime I will be looking for another person or two to help moderate. If you’re interested just message me directly.

Making shoulder thingies for a costume, they won’t be attached to other armour, just want to be able to wear these over clothes. Does anyone have any tips on how and where to attach the separate pieces together and how to keep them on me?

Anyone have any tips to make one or get one quickly? I want my lil pew pew with me :3

If i simply aren't allowed to bring it in due to not having the tip I'll ofc leave it in the info desk while I'm at the con lol.

Help Agamemnon armor

Looking for someone who can either create, recommend a website, someone or help me with a 3D print file for Agamemnon display armor and helmet. I’m a female so if it could be tailored to me that would be great. Obviously not for free but advice or recommendations would be great bc Etsy isn’t giving me much

Help Spitballing how to get the flames/energy effect

Trying to get the light/energy effect without going too in depth since these are just for one or two cons a year haha. Was thinking of maybe trying to apply the same principle that people use for this type of fire prop. Any ideas/tips?

Help Any good things to make to practice?

So I’ve been wanting to get into EVA foam craft this summer so I’m not just sitting in front of my PC like a chud all day and I have actually learned quite a bit about EVA foam, cutting, glueing, using a dremel tool, cores and a bit of painting too. But apart from learning the techniques I don’t really know what to make or how to practice. I wanna focus on weapons/other props instead of armor making but again, I’m not sure what a “vertical progression” would look like or how I could achieve it.

My goal is to be able to make the katana of a character named Hoshimi Miyabi from Zenless Zone Zero by the end of the year and potentially continue making props out of pure entertainment. So if anyone has some tips or ideas on things I can make that can slowly climb in difficulty as I go I would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance.

Help What's the cheapest way to make simple tentacles for your back?

Thumbnail

I have to buy most of the stuff for this cosplay so I really want to save money where I can. While keeping it small cause I want to bring this to a convention.

I'm assuming I can use pool noodles but then I run into the problem of making it work like a backpack and I'm not 100% sure. All the videos I've seen just have very complex tentacles and not simpler ones. I only saw one simple one but the video doesn't show someone wearing it.

Big swords are kind of easy. I just made this with cardboard and epoxy. The actual armor was so difficult tho.

WIP All-Black The Necrosword wood build

Hey ya'll,

There's a Fan Expo happening in September in my area and I've been wondering what to cosplay as......than Marvel Rivals helped with that: All-Black!

My plan is to turn this plank of 1" thick and 53" 1/4 long cedar into the sword. Cut out and refine the shape. Apply a layer of paper mache. Add in paper mache noodles and apply another layer, to give it an "organic" look and feel.

I'm fiddling with the design a bit, as in the comics, All-Blacks design is different a lot of the time in each series. But it's still recognizable. I want to add the swirling eye into the cross guard.

My real concern at the sketching phase is the weight of the blade might cause the handle to break. As cedar is light but brittle. Might reinforce.

I'll keep you guys updated.

If you want to share suggestions, advice or critique, feel free ^^

WIP All-Black Update #2

Used a skill saw to rough cut most of the shape out. There are some cracks here and there, causing part of the cross guard to fall off. That's ok, nothing like glue and wood filling can't fix.

Also the handle is titled, so i'll have to make a precise cut to realign with what's left.

Self Hand Crafted Toji Worm (JJK)

I made Toji’s worm from scratch by wrapping a bendable aluminum pipe with rolls of 6mm foam. I sculpted the worms’s head out of foam clay, and hid a chain clip in its mouth to attach and detach the chain. The worm magnetizes and pins to my body, and has a magnetic hidden pocket in its butt. I also glued strips of fabric down to hide the joints of the internal pipe.

Help Sandable plastic primer for eva foam help

Post image

I'm in the works of making my first armor out of eva foam, i've glued the pieces together with contact cement but there are some cracks and imperfections that I would like to fill in before I go ahead and spray with plastidip and paint. I want something that I would be able to sand down, does anyone know any products that work on eva foam and/or if this one is okay?

Help What paint/paint sealer is best for Foam Clay?

I've never used foam clay before and am planning to use it to smoothen out a cardboard-layered mask as it seems pretty good for smoothening hard edges or details in general (at least from what I've heard). This mask would have a moving jaw too (which I am also working on and isn't anywhere near done), so I'm also worried about potential flexing that could crack the clay.

Sorry if this is the wrong sub but I really need some advice. I gotta get it done before September so I can focus on the rest of the outfit before Halloween.

I live in the UK if that helps and thanks in advance :)

Help Protip: This tape can be used to permanently secure anything.

Can't believe I never thought of this before.

Gorilla Glue Waterproof Tape can be used to secure ANYTHING on your cosplay. I know it seems gimmicky and cheap like using duct tape, but I've tried this stuff before and it holds up to anything.

>Use it to secure straps instead of fancy glues.

>Use it on the inside of armors to add support between panels.

>Use it for a flexible joint between 2 hard points.

This stuff WILL NOT FAIL. In the picture of the JP Explorer, I used it to secure the bubble top to the car. 5 years of Michigan winters, Texas Summers, outside 24/7, cross country trips - It never loosened. When I had to replace the bubble top, I had to cut the tape apart and use an injector with Goo Off/acetone to get it to release enough to fight it off. It will hold up to anything. Be warned, once it's laid down it becomes VERY hard to get off, and it's pretty much permanent after 5 mins.
