1. Please ignore my overgrown yard. We live in Georgia and it’s sunny all day until my husband gets home from work then it storms (note the fallen tree from last night in picture 2) so he hasn’t had a chance to mow.

2. I was convinced Kyle was a rooster. I no longer think that. She is significantly bigger than the other chicks she was raised with. I think she may have just hatched earlier than the others and was at the top of the pecking order. And she does NOT like being confined in a brooder. She’s been free ranged now for a few weeks and she is thriving. Her temperament has improved greatly. We’re also struggling with a hawk issue, so now I’m kind of wishing she was a rooster and am in the market for one if you’re in the west ga area.

3. I’ve had several people message me wanting to buy her because they think she is a Sumatra. Regardless of what she is, I’m not willing to sell. I have raised this demon for months and I’m invested.

I recently took in a rooster from my sister-in-law and am wondering what breed he might be. She ordered mystery chicks from a hatchery website so isn’t sure either. He’s less than 6 months old and is HUGE! I’m also wondering if there is a rule of thumb for rooster-to-hen size problem I should be worried about. My other rooster (named Soup Pot because he’s vicious and is going bye bye on Friday) is half his size!

Any idea what could be causing this hen to walk like this? I haven’t had a chance to go over and look at her more closely as she is at my parents. Any thoughts on what it could be and how I can help her (likely without a vet, sorry) would be appreciated!

This is Gayle the rooster. The thing follows me around outside like a small dog, and apparently keeps an eye on us even when we aren't outside. Gayle is a damn fine rooster.

Was buying some stuff on our local market and saw this baby chick. Vendor said I could take it home since it's left out of there and will most likely die if no one would take it. Please dump as much info as you can (food, water, bedding, etc)

Edit: if it isn't obvious yet this is my first time personally taking care of a chick. We used to have a chicken farm in our province, but my grandparents were the ones to take care of them and they're gone now so I can't give this one to them.

I couldn't resist when I saw the tiny yolk. I was expecting it to be yolkless. In retrospect, I wish I'd used a normal sized fork instead of a tiny fork for the last picture to better show the scale.

It’s about 5 months old. It kicks the crap out of a definite rooster that is the same age and bigger.

Please help me figure out how many of these adorable silkies are Roos? 🙏😂 12 weeks old-only the buff one “acts” like a rooster.
Although the bantam barred named Shirley is the top of the pecking order..🫣🥹 any thoughts/guesses? Either way-they all have a home here-just genuinely curious and want to know how to tell them apart. 🤣😅🐣🐓

Im making this post to Thank you all for your inputs. Since she is a turkey I will not be able to keep her where I live. I dont have much area to have her around as much as I love her and would want her to be here with me I will be letting her go to an animal sanctuary. All of my local sanctuary I have contacted all told me they couldnt take her in because they are full at the moment. I would like her to go with 2 of my chickens that she gets along very well with. If not its fine for her to go by herself. I live in the Harrisburg area of Pennsylvania if anyone is nearby or knows anyone nearby that would take her in that area would be greatly appreciated.

My husband went to pick up our four hens, but he can’t remember the names! I know two are Rhode Island reds, it’s the white and black two I’m confused about.

From googling, i think one might be a white leghorn? But the other, I’m blanking! She’s black with orange & gold patches?

I’m new to chickens and have tried doing my research but still can’t figure it out.

The first one is for sure a rooster he crows all day.

I have heard the second one sort of crows.

The third one hasn’t crowed.

There all about two and a half months old

So my rooster has like 3 girls he prefers, venom, loki, and wanda, all mystic onyx. They are getting bald spots and their saddle area is beginning to show signs of damage.

He has SO MANY other girls. I have 9 mystic onyx hens, a sapphire gem, 3 buff brahmas, 2 easter eggers. Thats 14 to 1. And hes a SILKIE roo, hes half the size of a majority of them. The mystics are the eldest, being hatched near november and the rest hatched early spring this year.

Is there any things i can do to sway him? Do i just get him more girls? Put him in prison with the other girls or would that just do nothing? I do plan on getting him some actual silkie girls to breed with soon, but he seems to only really like those 3. He MIGHT get another girl if she passes him and sploots. He doesn’t even look at the girls that are not mystics even though they are laying age.

My partner sexed these all as hens, but not for a second have I thought these two with the black necks are hens. Thoughts? My gut says they are roosters, but I really need them to be hens! (Born around the end of March, neither are crowing but too young to lay eggs).

So I just hatched a baby chick! My plan is to keep it with the hen as she does seem to be doing a good job so far. But the question is, can I keep everyone on an all-flock feed or do I need to get specific feed for the baby and have it separated? I already plan to get a small water dish for it.

We picked up 8 pullets a few months ago and 6 were obviously breeds we ordered however these two… I’m just not sure! They’re supposed to be a Blue Breasted Brown Leghorn and a Sapphire Olive Egger. Which is which? Or are they different breeds all together??? (Currently 16 weeks)

I have two roosters, an Ameraucana and a Buff Orpington, that I’ve had for about 1.5 years who recently started fighting. I’m pretty sure a reason behind the fighting is I don’t have enough hens with them. There’s currently 10 hens with them but I got 6 young hens that I need to introduce still. This past year is the first time I’ve had roosters and I’m learning as I go. They aren’t aggressive towards anyone or the hens and they don’t fight long but it seems like once they catch their breath and remember the other is there they go after each other again. I just need to know if adding the new hens would be enough or should I look into rehoming one of them.

She seems awfully inflamed, and I’m wondering what I can do to help her.
