Marto passed away yesterday and I’m devastated.

Our first and only rooster. We took in Marto and his flock last year when he was just a chick. We originally named him “Marta” before we realized he was a rooster, then he became Marto. He wasn’t the most confident guy, but he was always good to his girls and our ducks.

When he was new, Marto was very unpopular. Our chickens didn’t let him eat, so I’d sneak him some extra food away from everyone else. He knew the drill and it became “our thing”. We bonded quickly and he became my favorite of the new birds.

Marto really only crowed in the mornings and to complain when we were late to feed everyone. We love his “crow song” and mimick it regularly in our house. Only recently he started crowing at us on a high surface. I’m so glad I took videos of how ridiculous it looked.. because this morning was disturbingly quiet.

I miss you buddy. I hope you heard my goodbye. Thank you for protecting your girls, I’ll keep them safe for you ❤️

This is Gayle the rooster. The thing follows me around outside like a small dog, and apparently keeps an eye on us even when we aren't outside. Gayle is a damn fine rooster.

I’ve got a flock of 11 hens. I can tell they are so much happier when I let them free roam outside their run. I would love to free roam them full time during the day but we have turkey vultures, hawks, raccoons, coyotes, and some barn cats. Should I get them a rooster or are there other options?

First time chicken owner. Just wondering if it's normal for the tail feathers to be messy like this. It just came out

Total newbie here. I live on a huge chunk of farmland, never had a chicken before, have been doing research for a long time though. I named him/her “Fingers”… don’t judge😂 I plan on naming all my chickens different ways to prepare chicken/eggs.

Anyone have any tips or tricksh you wish you knew when you started out?

The new pullets this year have begun egg pecking... Oyster shells in multiple coop locations ✔️ increased protein snacks ✔️ decoy eggs... Well, I'm going to use free option before I buy some eggs or golf balls..

Anyone have luck with Easter eggs?

Affected foot is blue due to antibiptic spray. No sign of staff infection, but clearly is a little swollen and causing her discomfort. No signs of external injury or abrasions.

Anyone with experience- is it time for vet? It's been like this for a few days.

Howdy y’all. I am house sitting for my friends parents and they have chickens. Two of the hens are very broody. They had told me to just push them off the eggs. From what i have read a broody chicken doesn’t eat or drink as much so it is better to push them off. One of them i pushed off gently with the feed scoop, but the other one seems to panic and scream when i try to do the same to her. I want to make sure I’m doing this right, I don’t want her to not eat and drink too much, but i also don’t want to stress her out. Whats the best decision? Should I just push her off even when she screams or let her sit. I would ask they owns but they are off on a honeymoon and don’t have signal. Any advice would be appreciated.

One of my chickens (we're not sure who, we have it narrowed down to two, but those two are sisters who always lay in the same box and don't like to be apart) is routinely laying eggs like this. It has been like this for a while, and neither of them seem sick, but I just wanted to check if this is something to worry about?

I'll also attach a photo of the two chickens that could be laying the eggs, for chicken tax :) the buff orpington is Pete, the white one who we have no idea what she is, as she was SUPPOSED to be a buff orpington as well, is Francine. And, of course, the one photo bombing Pete's photo is Asmodeus.

My chicken has this very sudden growth, it wasn’t there just a couple days ago. Does anyone know what this is/ how to treat it? If she needs to go to the vet then I will take her but if anyone knows of anything I can do at home to prevent putting her through the stress of going to the vets office please let me know ☺️

I couldn't resist when I saw the tiny yolk. I was expecting it to be yolkless. In retrospect, I wish I'd used a normal sized fork instead of a tiny fork for the last picture to better show the scale.

Any idea what could be causing this hen to walk like this? I haven’t had a chance to go over and look at her more closely as she is at my parents. Any thoughts on what it could be and how I can help her (likely without a vet, sorry) would be appreciated!
