Long story short, aborted like 5-6 games in a day (was right under 2.1k and dodging opponents way above/below me, didn't realize they moved the rating-range thing into settings), so I guess the algorithm had enough and tossed me in the 'bad sport' pool for it.

Spent the next couple of days getting matched with blatant cheaters. Out of curiosity I saved some of the accounts and checked back later, most got banned eventually, but a few are still active, playing the exact same way, which was pretty annoying, at least for me.

So I went and built a thing to scratch the itch: paste a chess.com or lichess username and it compares their games to how people at their rating actually play, it does engine match %, mistake size, move timing. It won't call anyone a cheater per se, as it is still just statistics, but it tries to show how far off 'normal for that rating' they are.

Mostly made it for myself but figured someone here might get some use out of it. Curious how it does on accounts you've suspected, or if you have some other feedback for me.

I know self-promo is not allowed here, but I don't really see it as a self-promo, as I don't really get anything out of it, the tool is free, no ads, etc.

Here's one example, this dude got banned eventually but he went on for some time before he did, the website did flag him immediately when I tested it on him.

And that might be true. I may not know. However I do know when I have pretty comfortable games around the 1300-1500 range, perhaps decided by a blunder. Compared to games that I just get utterly demolished from the start.

Chess.com agrees and just in the last week I've probably been given back about 200pts from banned players found to be cheating. So this isn't a case of simply being beaten by better opponents.

On other occasions, when I'm in a strong winning position, the opponent has a long pause, then comes back with a fleet of best moves to turn it around.

I'm perplexed as to why people do this. Are they actually bots, people testing their DIY chess model? Or what's the point exactly? It's a board game, it can't get much less serious than this. So why cheat?

Seems like an economical way to use chess.com. Anyone from the US have one? Any feedback?

Playing on Chess.com app really feels like absolute waste of time.

The amount of obviously cheating bots or players is just insane!

And sadly, admins are not doing anything to prevent it.

1. Can this develop my piece?

2. Why did my opponent make that move?

3. What happens after I make that move?

4. Any captures or pins? That's it

I feel like this is probably the 2nd or 3rd time in about 5 years of playing online, that I've won with .1 left on the clock. Granted, in games where time gets added as you go it might be more likely, idk.

I’m wondering if this is a sign of low intelligence am I genuinely an idiot? Like I miss so many things and blunder so much and I’ve been playing for a while now and I’m still so bad. like this game makes me lose respect for myself and I genuinely get depressed playing this game because it makes me realize how low my iq is

Now I have slammed my desk every morning trying to pick it up. Against the 1250 ELO bear, aka "The Bear".

I know people say Bullet is bad for practice, but the flipside is that going back to Rapid makes you feel like you have *eons* of time to work with. It's amazing

I'm happy with this game so I thought I'd post about it.

As beginners, it is true that we ought to spend our time studying tactics and endgames and not focus heavily on opening theory, sort of. Opening theory should not be discarded altogether either, if for no other reason than to psych out our opponent. I can gauge my opponent's playing strength in about 10 moves. If they answer everything I play with precision and preparation, that's incredibly intimidating. When I play 1800s for example, the opening always feels the same.

I can sense that they know my plans better than I do. Whatever tactic I think I see, they also see and they see a counter-tactic to that and they know I don't see it. They circle me like a tiger patiently waiting to pounce. They will always give me enough rope to hang myself and they do this just 5 moves into the opening usually.

The moral is, don't disregard opening theory completely, and when possible, use it to intimidate your opponent. Demoralize them, and your opponent's blunders will inevitably appear.
