Suggestions for best takeaway meal under 20 bucks?

I moved here a year ago and need new places to try. Independent/local shops, preferably permanent shops/locations as Im rarely free to go to night markets/pop ups etc.

I haven't tried many but my picks are BB Vietnamese, they do a full tray of food for around $16, really good bahn mi for $12.

One sushi on Colombo st. Massive katsu chicken bowls for $13.

Where would you rent if you were us?

We are a couple with a cat. One of us works in town and one in rolleston. We are due to move rentals in the new year but struggling to figure out where to go. Do we go to rolleston and be closer to work with a larger house or give up 1 of our cars and move into an apartment in the city. We are often in the city for events as well so factoring this in.

Tips and tricks for sleeping!

I need sleep. My body clearly hates me because for the last three weeks or so I can't get to sleep before midnight and then it's still broken and unsettled sleep until my small humans wake around 6:30 am.

I'm grumpy because I'm so freakn tired. Today I was attempting to do some readings for Uni and was literally nodding off at the laptop. This was after I had a can of coke followed by a coffee to try keep myself alert.

Yet I can't sleep at night 🤔

Please share your best tips. Or send sleepy vibes my way.

I have always struggled with sleep but this is next level.

Christchurch related because I live here? And am willing to go purchase expensive magical potions if it promises sleep.

Mental health case management?

So I've been given case management via public mental health here in Ōtautahi/Christchurch after a stint in hospital, and my case manager has asked what we can do together that will help me. I don't know what would help me - what have others done with their case managers? I've done a couple of searches to find out what sort of things case managers typically do with their patients, but all the websites just say that they liaise with other clinicians to coordinate care. She's done that but there's a waitlist of at least half a year to see a psychologist. Everyone keeps asking me what would help me and I don't know, but they don't like that answer. I don't know what else I'm meant to say.

Can anyone give me some ideas of what I'm meant to ask for?

ETA: things that require going into a group of strangers aren't possible for me, and the interests I have require money that i don't have, nor transport.

UC Bachelors

Hey, I'm just after a bit of advice if possible, I feel like a have made a major mistake regarding my education post high school.

I enrolled into UC film school to pursue film studies and feel duped. My classes are made up of video game creation and product design is making tabletop games. When I questioned this with my advisor, they told me that they like to have variety of papers in year 1 to give you a range of options and to hold on until year 2 to start specializing in film after the enrolment was accepted and I had received my timetable.

I toured Aras broadcasting school while I was looking but didn't go with that at the time. A friend who goes to Yoobee is already behind a camera and writing and I'm sitting here making tabletop games?!?! I feel I am wasting my time.

Can anyone from Yoobee or Aras broadcasting school let me know if these are actually more active classes? I think I have to stick with uni until next year anyway, I'm just so guttered it's not what I thought when enrolling with the advisor.

Would also love to hear from anyone with more life experience as to how they would handle this. I have had no support from Student Services despite asking.

Sorry if it's not appropriate here, hope everyone had a nice Wednesday, thank you.

Anyone know what car rental place this might be?

Had my 85 year old neighbor come out to tell me a Chinese couple crashed into the curb in front of my house and blow a Tyre. They had to wait for a black van to replace the Tyre. He chatted to them and they were on their way to queenstown having just landed. I’m in Avonhead so they were already lost.

Unfortunately he didn’t get their license plate and only thought later that they may have clipped my car on the street. Turns out they side swiped the rear wheel and bumper and smashed the wing mirror.

No idea where to start - if I know who hit me my insurance is $1000 less

Attendance at Ara

I have a 89% attendance so far this year and had 93% across last year. The threshold states attendance should be “100% and passing at least 75% of my courses.” In terms of passing, I am doing well with most of my grades being an A or B. Just wondering if anyone knows how strict this attendance threshold is. Thank you

Gym Recommendations

Hi. I’m looking for some recommendations for good affordable gyms in the city.
I am a first time gym goer so have a bit of anxiety around the gym being busy or equipment not being available.
Unfortunately I work full time in the cbd so it would need to fit in around that.
I have been thinking a council gym membership to use Parakiore and possibly some other gyms around the city.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

Arborist wood chip

Hi all, has anyone had any experience getting free (or cheap) woodchip from arborists?

We are out at West Melton and looking to set up a big no dig garden, so need to get hold of a lot of mulch. Thanks!

After 6 months of roadworks and having a large trench dug next to our house, this is the state of our kerb left by March Contracting. The gap is getting wider by the week.

It appears that they are leaving it like this.

What are your favourite NZ souvenirs to take overseas?

I'm heading overseas later this year and would love to take some Kiwi souvenirs for family and friends.

So far I'm thinking things like Whittaker's chocolate, mānuka honey, and maybe a few All Blacks/Canterbury or NZ Tshirts.

The only thing is, a lot of the souvenir shops seem quite expensive (around $20+ for a basic T-shirt), and I'd rather not buy cheap Temu/AliExpress knock-offs. I'd prefer to buy things that are actually from NZ or support NZ businesses if possible.

Does anyone know of any shops in Christchurch or NZ online stores that sell good Kiwi souvenirs at more reasonable prices? I'm happy to buy online if it's a New Zealand business.

Are there any other classic NZ gifts you'd suggest? They're in a warm tropical country, so probably nothing like wool or merino socks. I'm open to food, clothing, or anything that's a bit "Kiwiana" without breaking the bank.

Ebike security in chch

I'm getting an expensive ebike ~$4000, step through design.

I would love to ride it around instead of driving, but I'm scared of theft. I've looked into the best locks you can buy, like the Hiplok DX1000 or Litelok X3. People online are pretty paranoid about theft.

Does anyone have experience of locking up their ebike various places and has it been stolen?

Where can I try fufu in Christchurch?

I've been wanting to try fufu for ages and would love to have it with one of the traditional dishes it's normally eaten with.

Does anyone know of any restaurants, takeaway places, food trucks or home-based businesses in Christchurch that serve it? I'd love recommendations on what dish to order with it for a first-time experience.

Thanks!

Edit: Today I learned "fufu" means something completely different in NZ. I had absolutely no idea! I mean the West African dish made from cassava/yam, not the Kiwi slang lol. Thanks for all the recommendations.
