My boy Toby has always had these deep bald spots. And slowly as he has gotten older he has developed what look like age spots. His vet didn't seem concerned during his last check up. Has anyone seen this before?

Video - OC I keep catching my cat wearing my daughter's tutu

One of our cats loves tulle/mesh. Whenever my daughter leaves her tutu on the floor, our cat Pearl will pounce and play on it. Occasionally she pounces through the middle and I find her wearing it. Maybe she secretly feels bonita? I enjoy it a lot, maybe you guys will too

I’ve never had cats that meow so much but they both are constantly talking to me and always watching me if they’re not sleeping. If they’re sleeping it’s usually on me or my paperwork. Am I giving my cats a codependent complex? It’s either one or the other the entire time I’m home, which I love, but are they okay?

Advice Should i keep allowing my kitten to do this?

6.9k Upvotes

My friends’ cat had kittens and I decided to adopt one of them. I think she gave him away a tiny bit too early as he was just barely 8 weeks. But tbf he was eating solid food and water normally so i don’t see such a big issue. Anyway, my first cat and the kitten quickly got along (took them 1-2 days to get used to eachother) and he keeps suckling despite no milk. I’ve read that this is a comfort thing, but he’ll be 11 weeks soon and I feel like he should be leaving this stage by now. Should i leave them to their own and let him grow out of it?

Mourning/Loss Had to say goodbye to my girl

I recently had to say goodbye to my 20 year old ginger cat Rosie, I don't know how to explain how I feel to be honest, other than the fact that I miss her.

I grew up with this cat and she has always been by my side. When I moved out for the first time, I took her with me and she has slept at the end of my bed since I was a child. Now my home feels empty.

She originally went missing a week ago, Then her body turned up in my back garden half decomposed as if she was thrown there... I have no idea what happened and I don't think I ever will since I live in the middle of nowhere.

Rest in peace Rosie...

Edit: Thanks everybody for your kind words...

Mourning/Loss The cat distribution system chose me at a bad time... so today I have to let her go to a different forever home (TW, animal abuse)

This is Ms. Mocha Bean, AKA Bean. Formerly Frances Bean but my friend and I decided she needs a new start with a new name (though I couldn't totally let go of "Bean"). I live in low-income apartments and found her on my door step one day coming home from teaching. It was over 90°F outside so I let her into my apartment. Turned out, it was my neighbor's cat, only a year old. This neighbor had thrown her out from a second story window because the landlord was doing inspections and didn't know about the cat... If I had known this, I wouldn't have given Bean back to her.

And apparently this neighbor kicked Bean HARD and threw her like a damn football in front of other neighbors. Another neighbor saved Bean from starvation because this neighbor went on a week-long vacation and locked her in a room with no food, water, or litterbox. Bean is a year old and has had no shots or neutering. When I heard about all this, I asked the neighbor if I could take Bean into my home and look for a new one for her. She thankfully agreed.

I wish I could keep her... it was a rocky start but she has become so sweet. She was very bitey and aggressive at first. I think her back is injured, because since I started exclusively petting her head and neck I haven't been bitten. We have had her in total a little less than a week because she went on a 10-day observation hold at the vet for rabies after her first time biting me. Less than a week total, and she's already getting along with my cats and cuddling up to me constantly. The tragic thing is, she had no idea how to even play with toys when I first took her in. She was SO skinny, too. She's gained a little weight now. I'm infuriated because her former "owner" kept telling me how aggressive and horrible Bean was... all I see is a traumatized and hurt baby.

Today, my friend's brother is coming to meet her and possibly take her home with him, tonight. I know he'll be a great fit for her. But my heart is a little broken up that we have to let her go. I just can't afford to take in a third cat right now and have too much on my plate to meet her needs 💔 I'm student teaching this fall, spend all my free time making a little money teaching, and have a special needs child to care for. I'm really hoping she'll be happy and healthy in her forever home.

For anyone wondering... yes, animal control has been called, about a week and a half ago. I don't think action has been taken yet, but hopefully soon because the neighbor who used to have her wants to get another cat (a "nicer" one).

Advice Strays

Around the beginning of May we found a momma cat and her newborn babies in a dark corner of our garage. I decided to let them stay. These guys are going on 3 months old and I’m at a loss as to what to do.

We love them, but I fear our location (out in the NW Ohio country) will only mean more litters will turn up! We see new cats everyday. I feel like people just drop them off regularly. I would love to adopt these guys and gal out, but everyone just wants outdoor barn cats. I want them to be inside kitties. Am I being to selfish? Winters are harsh and from what I’ve seen, barn cats are not well taken care of. These babies love humans! They love cuddles. They purr like little motorboats the second they see us. I just can’t envision them stuck out in a barn fending for themselves. Especially, with how harsh and long our winters can be.

I have 4 indoor cats, 3 kids, and 2 geckos inside. It’s a lot of work and I don't think I could house them without losing my mind. Ultimately, we plan to build a cat house on our property, but we can’t afford that right now. Would you let these babies go to be barn cats, or hold out for indoor love? Momma is scheduled to be fixed. For right now, they can stay garage kitties and I’ll get them fixed, but more cats will show up. Its a cycle, and I can’t just keep accumulating cats without a proper place for them to stay.

The last picture is of when one of my indoor cats ran into the garage, I went to grab him, and momma cat bit me trying to get to him. I was in the hospital a few hours later because infection set in almost immediately! 😅🫠

Mourning/Loss I'll miss you Lightning

My 13 year old cat Lightning just died. She'd been acting lethargic and breathing awkwardly the past few days and not eating really at all so we were worried about her. Around two hours ago my mom packed her in a carrier and took her to the vet to get checked out. They gave her something to calm down and help with anxiety and then she was gone. I feel sick and like I'm going to vomit and I don't know how I'll be able to keep it together and go to work tonight.

She was the sweetest, most annoying little gremlin I ever knew. If you had food, she would not stop bugging you to get some, even if you already gave her some but she was still always thin as a post. If you were taking a nap, she'd be laying tight on top of you if she wasn't refusing to settle down. She was our cat that was on your keyboard while you were trying to work. She was the one that sought out the odd peculiar perches or resting spots like on the open dishwasher door or on the drying carpet outside. Now she's just gone and I can't process that. My family is all crying and our dog is barking wrong because she knows something is terribly wrong and I can't deal with it. She leaves behind her last surviving sister Sofia from a litter of four we fostered and adopted 13 years ago (first gone was Isabella who ran away only a few years after we got them, second was Grevious a few years ago who vanished for a few months but turned back up too dehydrated and starved to make it) and a recent stray who followed my sister home last Halloween named Gigi. I can't deal with this and I don't know how I'm gonna stand being alone all overnight with this and I just can't.

Mourning/Loss Memorial for Aurora/share what you love/loved about your cats

Now that it's been a few weeks since my baby passed of Lymphoma, I think I can finally post this memorial to r/cats. I believe memorials shouldnt be about the sad things, they should be about the things that made you happy. The things that you loved. So these are all my favorite things about my baby Aurora. She was never really my cat, we rescued her from my friends hoarder mother and she stayed in my home while my friend worked to find stability. But she always felt like everyone's cat. There wasn't a single person who walked through our door who she didn't love and who didn't love her back. She was a chunker of 15 lbs and ALWAYS hungry. She hated dieting. She would knock everything over constantly every day and when we chased her she would run straight to her food bowl and chirp while spinning in circles. She never really meowed, more chirped, all the time. She was very talkative. When she made Biscuits she was so intense her nose would drip every time but she never cared. She LOVED boobs if someone has boobs she would reach out and touch them every time, sometimes fully extending an arm out of a comfortable position just so she could touch them. She also enjoyed walking over people's boobs to wake them up at 4:00 AM To ask for food. When I ate food by her she believed slowly inching her paw towards my food meant I couldn't see her. She lived for food. She refused to drink any water that wasn't straight from the faucet and if I showered she had to be there to observe every time. Sometimes she annoyed me so much but then I'd chase her and she would look at me with those big shaky eyeballs and I could never stay mad. She was my stinky naughty baby, I'm going to miss her. Please share you're favorite things about your babies you currently love or the ones you've lost.

Medical Questions Does your cat do this?

My partner's 1 year old cat pants like this after she's played a lot. It's been hot today (I have fans on us and I wiped her with cool water) and I'm thinking maybe that's why she's panting out of nowhere too. Does your cat do this or should I take her to the vet tomorrow morning?

Mourning/Loss Tribute to Princess Peppa Pig (Princess)

About half an hour ago we took her to the vets for the last time.

My mum got me a kitten when I was a child and we didn’t have a lot of money and she was a single mother. This cat has been with us for almost all my life and she was like my sister. My mum has multiple photos of Princess laying on my chest while I slept. She has been with us the whole way, watching us as my mum worked her way up and out of not having much to having a high paying job, a loving partner and a very happy and comfortable life.

TW: talking about why she passed. In the past few months she had started to constantly throw up, at least once or twice a day, so we took her to the vets, they ran some tests and they said they suspected it was a liver infection. We got some meds and took her home. She got better for a little bit, but soon she started to not eat. By the end, she was very thin and clearly uncomfortable. We now believe it was liver failure, but we made sure she was as comfortable and loved as can be right to the end.

As I’m writing this I can actually hear her purring and I don’t even know how. Im not religious but maybe she is sitting here with me now. If you read even a bit of this, thank you 💕
See you later my little void 🖤
