And I don't mean a Reboot but I mean a revival and bring it back.

This show genuinely needs a revival and I would love it.

Discussion What’s an obscure cartoon show that you love?

Upvotes

I absolutely loved Galactik Football and Mummies Alive! when I was growing up! I’m having a chat with my partner and every show I’ve mentioned I loved growing up he has 0 idea what I’m talking about!

I’d love to know what shows everyone else loves but find no one else seems to know them!

Discussion Last Year I Pitched A Reboot of the Penguins of Madagascar to DreamWorks Animation

Upvotes
Early style test

Last year I pitched a reboot of The Penguins of Madagascar to DreamWorks Animation. It was ultimately rejected for a mix of reasons, but I wanted to share a bit about the experience and our vision for the show.

First I want to say, I have no affliation with DreamWorks or Nickelodeon, and again, this was a pitch, not something developed by them in-house.

Developed by my partner and I, we wanted something that captured the spirit of the 2008 Nickelodeon show, while also keeping it timeless. Designed for a 22 minute format, unlike the original show, this version would be a mix of serialized and eposodic, allowing for more room to tell larger stories.

The hardest part was figuring out the continuity, our answer was more or less to leave it to DreamWorks, but our scripts contained several references to the events of the movies, and importanlty, made it that only Skipper knew about the villianous Dr. Blowhole.

In the same way the 2014 movie focused on Private, our outline for season 1 focused heavily on Kowalski, as he is manipulated by Dr. Blowhole. The key aspect of our show is the idea that we choose our families.

Tonally we wanted the series to be aimed at kids preteens, similar to most mainstream animated movies at the moment. It took heavy inspiration from the Venture Bros, and Archer, while of course being kid friendly.

Late style test

Stylistically my intent wasn't to have the show rip off Spider-Verse, rather it was designed to be in my natural style, which is akin to Spider-Verse. Ironically, in part through the art for the pitch deck, I got a job on Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse as a visual development artist. So at least that came from this.

If I was to do it all over again, I think I'd push the style a little further away from Spider-Verse, and more in line with the work of Michal Sawtryuk who I joked was my dream Art Director.

The boys

My partner and I absolutely adore these characters, and we wanted nothing more than to keep them as true to themselves as possible. From Skipper to King Julien, it was essential to us that the characters felt like themselves. It was also essential that the new characters, such as Yuki the crane, and the villianous sealion trio of Catalina, Nicolas, and Miguel, fit in as best as possible.

The show also brought back a number of faces from the 2008 show, including Marlene, Hans, and Dr. Blowhole.

Newcomer, Yuki. Working remotely for a San Francisco based company, no one knows this valuable employee is really a crane.
Penguin habitat

Given that my background was, well, backgrounds for TV, it was important for us that all the locations were characters in their own rights. From the habitat, to the zoo, to New York City, we wanted to capture what made all these places special.

The greatest city in the world, baby

We developed 12 episodes for the first season and wrote them all. The way the pitching process works varies, but often you come in with just ideas, not actual scripts. We decided to write them anyways, with the understanding that things would inevitably change should the show be picked up.

Pilot: The Penguins must stage a fake heist at the Met Museum to distract Private from their true goal: nabbing a present for his birthday. Unfortunatelyfor them, the lemurs plan a heist of their own and endanger the mission.
Cinema Parrotdiso: Kowalski and Marlene host a disastrous film festival while King Julien finds himself owing mangos to a parrot running low on patience.
The Frisco Crane: The Penguins must save San Francisco from vengeful sea lions, while Yuki must disguise herself as a human to accept an award for her remote job.
What We Do About the Shadows: After realizing a new skyscraper will soon cover his habitat in shadow, King Julien must race against the clock to fudge the building’s blueprints and halt construction.
Manhattan Express: With a bomb strapped to their car, Marlene must navigate the penguins to safety, while Skipper confronts the Danish mad-man behind the ploy.
Nightmare on Fifth Ave: After hearing a scary story on Halloween, Privatemust confront his fear of ghosts, all while more sinister forces are at play with the Penguins.
Him: After a mission goes all sorts of wrong, Skipper tries to replace Kowalski with an AI app. Upset, Kowalski tries to prove himself by confronting Skipper’s arch nemesis alone.
Vax on Vax Off: Skipper’s fear of needles drives him to rally the Zoo to end their yearly vaccinations, resulting in disaster. King Julien aims to capitalize on the hysteria and become a wellness guru.
Uncertified Copy: A teleportation mishap has Kowalski realizing he’s not the original, but rather a copy, all while KingJulien becomes a viral sensation. Overwhelmed by the consequences of their actions, the two must decide between accepting their choices, or traveling back intime to undo them.
Pink Penguin Club: Private’s goal of creating a hangout space for the whole zoo is tested by King Julien’s desire for fame, while a broken-hearted Kowalski finds himself obsessed with an anime character.
The Squid and the Penguin: On a submarine mission, a bite crazed Rico meets a giant squid with a similar compulsion problem - he can’t stop sinking boats.
The Good, the Bad, and the Semi Aquatic: After realizing someone on his team is a mole, Skipper must rely on Julien and Marlene to save the city and (probably) the world from his arch-nemesis.

Okay, if you read this far, you're probably wondering who am I? Is this legit?

As I said, I'm Kade Byrand, a Visual Development and Background Artist having worked on a number of projects, most notably Velma, and Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.

To say this franchise means a lot to me, would be well, an understatement. Not only did the 2008 show make me interested in animation in the first place, it is how I met the love of my life, and this pitch's co-creator, Joseph Cherbonnier. We intitally met on the now defunct site FanPop on a Penguins of Madagascar forum.

We wanted nothing more than to get the series right. I think our pitch went great, it got a lot of laughs and love, but getting a show off the ground is a complicated task, and the timing just wasn't right. I think something will happen with these characters someday, and I definitely plan to be there when it does.

Thanks for reading this. I'd love to hear people's thoughts. We tried our best, but of course our ideas might not be to everyone's tastes, but still, it was a labor of love.

Us after the pitch

You didn't see anything!

Discussion Now that I think about it, why does Mac still remained to be bloo friend

Post image
5 Upvotes

I’ve been watching Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends, and one thing that has always confused me is why Mac continued to be friends with Bloo despite how badly Bloo often treated everyone around him.

Bloo constantly acted selfish, greedy, and narcissistic. He regularly put his own wants above everyone else’s, manipulated situations to benefit himself, lied, caused problems for the other imaginary friends, and rarely seemed to learn from his mistakes. Even when Mac tried to do the right thing, Bloo would often drag him into unnecessary trouble or make things harder than they needed to be.

What surprises me most is that Mac almost never gave up on him. Even after Bloo disappointed him multiple times, Mac still defended him, forgave him, and chose to spend time with him. There were plenty of episodes where it felt like anyone else would’ve ended that friendship.

Do you think Mac stayed because he genuinely saw the good in Bloo underneath all of his flaws? Was it because Bloo was the imaginary friend Mac created, so there was a deeper emotional bond that couldn’t easily be broken? Or do you think the writers intentionally exaggerated Bloo’s negative traits over the course of the series for comedy, making the friendship seem less believable than it was in the earlier seasons?

Do you think Bloo was actually a good friend deep down who just had a terrible personality, or was Mac simply far too forgiving? If you were in Mac’s position, would you have stayed friends with Bloo, or would you have eventually walked away?

Discussion Okay before i begin i must state that adventure time is my favorite show of all time But... Spoiler

I think that the Nowhere King absolutely blows The Lich out of the water . the reason i think this is because while the lich is a classic villian and absolutely no slouch it just gets exhausting to be a fan of him sometimes due to the following reasons

1:The Lich is a bum who constantly aura farms for 5 seconds gets his ass beat and then everyone moves on with their day, The Nowhere King on the other hand is this looming presence that we get hints at all the way in episode 4 , and when he finally does arrive the impact hits much harder

2: The Lich's design is absolutely Classic with a capital C but , The Nowhere King exceeds him in that way too . like dude on the lich's hand you got a dope ass looking villian who instantly makes a room turn cold with his skeletal face and green robes hes classic. but then in the Nowhere King's corner you have a massive body horror masterpiece of a design with an elk skull , spindly limbs , that sick ass tail and black tar create a much more interesting design.

and finally

3: The Lich's entire thing is just "OH IM EVIL CAUSE I NEED TO PLEASE GOLB " but then with the Nowhere King you have this deeply tragic and emotional story about grief and the inability of being unacceptable in societys eyes and above all just detachment so his motives are also much better

Saw two articles on this, and it is generally just very unfortunate. Pixar has continued to deliver strong results in the community and, profit-wise, with Toy Story 5 approaching the 1 billion threshold. And past movie hits like Inside Out 2 still showcase how good Pixar is. Disney continues to really ruin Pixar and the happiness for all of us, and the talk about projects like Hoppers being classed as "underperformance" just pains to hear considering Disney has not had a good hit in a while themselves.
