I'm planning to cut the diamonds down to actually fit INside the eye sockets, but i'd like somebody else's opinions; cut down or leave as is? Then the pink diamonds will be backlit by red LEDs.. Thx

title is self explanatory. found a lot of bones, went on a trip, and the person watching my house threw them away. i know it wasn't an animal that took them because i have security cameras and no animals were holding anything/dragging them away. they're somewhere in a dump now and i'm really upset. i had found a ton of really cool pieces. this happening has had me considering quitting bone hunting fully. looking for kind words or advice to get over it.

I'm trying to source sheep, cow, rabbit or fox bones for my art. I would require a steady supply over time but have been stumped with locations and want to make sure I'm abiding Australian laws.

Permission from farmers is ideal, but I don't have any one I can contact.

I'm aware that there is a FB group called Bone Buddies Australia but I'm not on FB anymore.

What are some weird experiences or conversations you’ve had with people?

Recently, a friend introduced me to her friends as someone who kills animals for fun and collects their bones and skulls as a trophy. Honestly idk why she would say that about me right in front of strangers.

I felt very irritated about it and tried to defend bone collecting and my taxidermy work as someone who deeply respects life and animals and wants to honor them even after death.

When I tell people that I like to collect skulls and bones, they tell me I’m mentally ill for doing so. There’s many stigmas around this type of work.

I just made a post on here the other day about my deer skull I bought on eBay and bought it as degreased/non-whitened/cleaned and upon opening it stunk of death and rotten meat. I was told I was essentially ripped off as it’s NOT completely degreased which was in the seller’s description. It’s my first deer skull ever so I apologize in advance. I’ve soaked it in dawn as a degreasing method as suggested, and noticed this white tissue coming from the skull. The smell is just as bad if not WORSE. Is this normal part of degreasing or should I just stop degreasing and go to maceration? I didn’t want to macerate right away as I live in an apartment building which lacks a yard lol. More or less what the title says. I have found this dead bird laying behind a bus shelter that has been there a couple days. Not 100% certain on the ID as I am not an ornithologist but it looks very similar to the attached picture, which is a European Starling. The tips of the feathers on the breast are the same and the wings are also brown like the photo.

I have looked into the basics of harvesting dead animals and it seems to be that because it is dead on public land no one will really come after me UNLESS it is a protected species, and that I should really ask the local council as they technically own the land. I only want its head ultimately but I do not want to get in legal trouble for cutting the head off of a bird that apparently broke its neck flying into a bus shelter.

I found this in the woods (but next to a town) somewhere in Germany.

My thought was: grey seal lumbar vertebra (with some of the spinous process missing). It’s incredibly flat.
Any suggestions gratefully received.

I am from Europe, Latvia and I have quite a few skulls to sell. Any advice where I could sell them? They have been professionally cleaned (NOT BOILED OR BLEACHED!) but macerated, then degreased and then whitened with hydrogen peroxide. I would like to get in the market and hear any tips you guys have regarding making sales of specimens.

I found a few bones on a beach in Langeland, Denmark. Can anyone tell me what creatures they belong to?

Found in Southeast Wisconsin, USA, in a forested nature preserve. I know it's a small find but discovering this bone is honestly helping to pull me out of a multi-year depressive episode. This specimen means so much to me and I'd love if anyone could provide some speculation on the ways it lived and died. Injury, disease, cause of death, age etc.

I'm also curious whether to start with degreasing or maceration first? The specimen you're seeing is exactly as it was found. Not rinsed, left out in the sun, or otherwise; just kept in a plastic sandwich baggy to get it home.

Obviously not collecting it since it’s a bird (well mostly just since I’m traveling) but I found this skull in the dirt at Red Rock Canyon just outside Vegas. Pretty sure it’s a crow or other Corvus idk though

Found this on the beach in longkou China and am wondering what animal this might be from? The locals said honestly might be from someone eating pork bone near by but on the off chance it’s not someone’s waste what could it be?

I left a job that was asking me to lie on financial aid and grant documents and i could not take it anymore and did not want to sign my name. Unfortunately it led to a big blowout and I went from a interim admissions director(?) to scooping ice cream part time for a job.

I'm not sure what to price certain things on but the very first pic (vintage deer skull mount redesigned by an incredible artist indomitus.taxidermy on instagram) is the only one that really hurts to let go. And my teeth molds. I love those unfortunately and they are married ( in my opinion!!!!) and i may only sell them as a set. Can anyone advise on what to price things at ? And again what sites im allowed to post certain things/where i should list on lol ?

Decided to take the plunge and start the process after finding a decently intact deer carcass. The bugs have done most of the work here. I cleaned up with a soft bristle brush, getting into the crevices as best and gently as I could. Rinsed them off before submerging in Dawn for de-greasing. I'll be back out in a week to change the water. Any advice for a newbie? Thanks!

I've collected lots of bones from the side of the road or railroads, I'm thinking about turning some into jewelry, just winding if there's anything I should know about bone care or processing before I start going at them with tools and wires. I currently have them degreasing in soapy water

My friend sent me these photos to have me identify. I am best at IDing skulls, and have forgotten most anatomy besides that. I'm thinking that it's a cow due to thickness and length, I feel like a moose should be longer and narrower. But the long point off the end confuses me, I haven't noticed this before? Thought maybe it's the calcaneus but I don't think so. Would love some input!

This little fella was a local in my neighborhood and I'd like to add him to my collection! He's technically in a neighbor's yard but I doubt they'll have an issue with me taking it; my concern is that I'm in a dense urban area with a lot of dogs and rats, and most carcasses I find like this are gone within a matter of days. Should I move the body and fix a cage over it or bury it in my yard? And if I do, what sort of PPE should I collect for it? So far all the bones I've collected are from something that died that day, I haven't attempted to move something like this before
