University best campus job from a graduating bear
As a graduating bear who's had to support himself throughout college, I wanted to share what I think is genuinely one of the best campus jobs out there, especially for incoming students who are worried about how they're going to afford things.
My honest recommendation: apply to become an RSA. The job itself is pretty simple. You sit in the booths at the entrance of the dorms and make sure people are tapping in with their student ID. Shifts are at night, and the pay is solid for what's being asked of you. (also free food at monthly meetings).
The best part is how much downtime you actually get. I used almost every single shift to study for my classes, which made it so much easier to balance work and school compared to jobs where you're on your feet the whole time. If you're someone who needs to earn money but also needs quiet time to get through your classwork, this job is a LIFESAVER.

Id appreciate any advice for eecs 151, am a rising soph looking to take it this fall (asic lab). What parts of 61c are necessary for the class? Is it ok if I take 105 concurrently with 151? What's the final project like? Thanks.

Other taking datac8 and datac88c simultaneously?
Hello everyone, I am an incoming freshman at berk intending to major in cognitive science.
this semester i’m taking both datac8 and datac88c and i was wondering if they are manageable to take concurrently? i am rlly scared of cs61a so i thought datac88c would be better for me. is it a weeder class? I’ve basic python/java experience. I took AP csa in hs however it was quite difficult for me (my teacher didn’t rlly take teaching seriously). Assume I have little to none coding experience, will i be okay? I want to start my berk career with a strong GPA as well…. any advice is greatly appreciated.
if you have been in this situation, please let me know any study resources or tips u found rlly helpful to succeed balancing the two.

University figuring out waitlists as a freshman (chem 1a/1aL)
hi! i need some slight help understanding how chem 1a/1al waitlists (and waitlists in general at berkeley) actually work
for context: i’m #126 on the overall chem 1a waitlist and #61 on chem 1al, BUT for my specific discussion section i’m like #2 and for my lab section i’m #4
i’ve seen people say “if you’re not within the first 15 on the waitlist just drop it.” does that rule apply to your position in the WHOLE class waitlist (126/61) or just your position within your specific section (2/4, out of i think 28 waitlist spots)??
essentially i’m wondering if berkeley pulls people through in order of the overall list and then slot them into whatever section has room, or does each section have its own mini queue that moves independently of the bigger number
thanks so much for the help 🙏 sorry in advance if the questions a bit confusing, im just wondering if i should just give up on taking chem this semester and try to get into some other breadth course.

University Logging into Canvas/Bcourses as an alumni?
Hi all! I graduated 3 years ago from my master's program and want to access my bcourses account to relearn some coding. For context, I had access to all of the courses I took during my master's program and was still able to access the courses every year since I graduated including earlier this year. Thought I would share this detail in case someone tries to argue with me that alumni lose all access to bcourses. I think it varies by undergrad vs grad and by degree program.
With all this said, I tried logging in today and wasn't able to even after following Canvas's instructions to login. Is there any way to login as an alumni? Or am I doomed since it seems like canvas changed after they got hacked back in May

Other Summer late drop for session B
I want to drop a session B class for the summer through the e-form on CalCentral, but the option to drop it isn’t available. I know the deadline has passed, but idk if the deadline for the late drop has alr passed. I emailed advisors and am looking for an advisor meeting, but none are available. Does anyone know if it’s still possible to drop a summer class this late into the session? Or how to drop it?

CS/EECS How do Berkeley freshmen prepare for summer internship OAs
I’m an incoming freshman majoring in Data Science, and I’m trying to understand how people prepare for summer freshman/sophomore tech internship OAs.
From what I’ve heard, a lot of OAs are LeetCode style, and you really need Data Structures & Algorithms to have a chance. Rn I have a little more than a basic understanding of Python and have built a few small projects, but LeetCode barely makes sense to me. I feel behind.
Did you learn Data Structures & Algorithms on your own before taking the class, or did you adjust your first semester schedule to take it earlier? How did you prepare for OAs?

Politics Black Americans have twice the medical debt of white borrowers, UC Berkeley researchers find
Black Americans have nearly twice the amount of medical debt as white borrowers, according to a new study by UC Berkeley researchers that analyzed credit reports from 2016 to 2022.
The researchers found that Black Americans consistently accrued the highest medical debt in collections within the past year and had the highest total outstanding medical debt.
In states without Medicaid expansion — including Texas, Georgia and Florida — Black adults face the highest probability of medical debt.

CS/EECS I need your insights please!
I’m currently around #100 on the Data C8 waitlist, #20 on the CS10 waitlist, and I’d be around #51 on the 9:30 high-touch Math 51 waitlist if I switched sections.
The issue is that the high-touch Math 51 section conflicts with Data C8. I think the high-touch format would help me a lot since attendance/discussions count toward your grade, and my calculus foundation isn’t the strongest.
Is there any realistic chance of getting into Data C8 from around #100? And what about getting into Math 51 from around #51?
If you were in my position, would you gamble on Data C8 or prioritize the high-touch Math 51 section?
( I’m in the in-person dc8 course)

University switching sections for closed class and need some help
I’m currently enrolled in Media Studies 114, which is now full. I want to switch my section using the Preferences/Switch Sections menu but I am worried I will get dropped from the class since it is closed. Is it safe to switch without getting dropped?

University Is Math 51 closed?
In the enrollment center it says Math 51 at 9:30 AM is closed, but multiple discussion sections still have seats available, mainly the 8 AM ones. It's super confusing because the course catalog still shows there's room, as well. Also, in the enrollment center if I search for math classes, it returns 76 results, but Math 51 is not on the list of classes anymore.

Other Unit 3 Suite?
Hello everyone, I recently got assigned a unit 3 suite double and was looking for more information. Berkeley gatekeeps all information about it, the most info I’ve gotten is from Reddit itself. I’m not sure what the floor plan even is like? Is it all carpeted? What buildings are they typically in and how many suites does unit 3 even have?
From what I’ve heard, the suites are mostly on the ground floor and 1st floor? Is that generally safe, does it offer a different vibe than living up higher?
Does anyone know what is actually included in the kitchen and lounge?
Is living in the suite a different vibe than all the other horror stories of Unit 3 or is it rather the same?
If anyone has lived in the Unit 3 suites before or have been inside them please let me know as much info as you can! Thank you so much.

Hello! I am taking Econ H191 in the fall. I wanted to ask if anyone has experience on what it’s like? Do you have to find a professor/mentor yourself or does the course help guide with that?
I was also wondering what the workload is like. Any tips and advice greatly appreciated. Thanks!
