META "AI Slop" Comment Crackdown

Hey /r/battlestations

The modern internet sucks.

Between the bots, the stealth advertising, "influencers", and algorithms intended to both make you angry and addicted. To top it off, the rising popularity of AI has made consuming content significantly less enjoyable.

I think we can just about all agree it's a bummer. But what's also a bummer is the constant stream of "This is AI" or "AI slop" on nearly every single post.

In most situations these posts are not AI or even AI enhanced. They're often taken by professional or hobbyist photographers who understand how to utilize Lightroom, Photoshop, etc.

Yet, just about any high quality photo is accused of being AI. The irony being that high quality photos have historically been the posts which receive the most attention.

On most of these posts, the "evidence" of something being AI is either:

  • It's too perfect, so it must be AI.
  • It's not perfect enough, the minor mistakes are evidence that it made mistakes / or intentionally is imperfect to look more real.

So if your photo is good, it's AI. If it's not good, it's also AI.

Starting today - users who leave baseless accusations of AI will be receiving short term bans as warnings. If they continue to leave those comments, the ban lengths will continuously increase.

Let me be clear - AI is not welcomed here.

Neither is stolen content. It gets removed, and bot accounts, those who steal content, or those who are intentionally submitting AI content are banned from the subreddit.

Sometimes AI content gets past us. It happens, we can't catch it all. Submit a report on it and provide actual evidence it's AI. Not just "the keyboard is floating" (it's not). You can type in the free-form box, you can submit links to evidence, etc.

The same goes for bot accounts, spammers, advertisers, etc.

Let's not make enjoying content even worse by accusing actual people submitting real photographs as using AI.

Fuck AI, but also stop accusing everyone without proof.

tl;dr -

Stop commenting "this is AI" or similar. Submit a report and we'll review. Those comments are going to begin receiving bans.

Thanks!

New PC and an upgraded setup!

Recently built a pc and figured I should update my setup as well! Added a xeneon edge display to the setup and some lighting (between the PC and the desk, I never want to install another LED strip again).

Proud of how much functionality I was able to integrate in the desk! Some fun things about the setup:

- Fully synced PC+desk RGB that reacts to screen or audio
- Hidden always on Bluetooth speaker underneath the desk
- Thunderbolt 5 Hub for one wire connection to my MacBook (hidden on the side) and monitor
- KVM switch to change peripherals between my play and work devices
- Dedicated WiFi router for PCVR streaming
- Mini Stream deck next to desk height controls
- Hidden switch 2 behind the monitor

And so many hours wrangling cables and figuring out the best way to config everything 😤 I’m done for now!

After converting our attic into a new bedroom for my son and a compact office for myself, this is the tech I’m using every day for work, gaming, and my hobbies.

Desk Setup
AOC AGON Pro AG324UX
Xiaomi Pad 7
FIFINE TAM8 microphone & boom arm
Razer Viper V3 Pro
NuPhy Air75 V2
PC
Case: Lian Li A3 Wood (mounted under the desk)
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7500X3D
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070
Motherboard: MSI B850M Gaming Plus WiFi
3D Printing
Bambu Lab P1S

A compact space, but it has everything I need for working from home during the day and gaming, 3D printing, and other creative projects in the evenings.

Since my last post, I've added the KVM switch, Yamaha speakers, a wider under-desk tray, and 8bitdo controller. I'm finally getting into ESO now that it's Steam Deck Verified. The Steam Deck handles all my gaming. The M2 Mac Mini is a Jellyfin server (media is on a NAS - not pictured) and occasional video editing workstation. The 2010 Macbook is now a linux laptop and is basically just a writer deck. The Dell underneath it is my work laptop.

After months of upgrades, I’m finally happy with how my battlestation turned out. Still planning to improve the mic cable management, upgrade to an LCD AIO, and get a premium mousepad. Feedback is always welcome!

Battlestations Advice Ideas for wall deco

Post image

I've been thinking of replacing the hex lights I have on the wall because they come off as a bit tacky to me. Is this opinion shared or should I keep them? If I was to remove them, what could I add to the wall so it doesn't look empty (or add while keeping the hex lights)? Also wondering if there's any other changes I could make, mostly for the area above my top shelf which looks a bit bare. Any feedback is welcome

Update

Main PC:

Arch Linux + KDE Plasma (Wayland)

Dual Xeon E5-2689 — 16 cores / 32 threads

128GB RAM

Intel Arc B580 (upgraded from GTX 1070)

Removed secondary GPU due to issues

Displays:

32" 1080p centre monitor

24" monitor

3x 22" monitors(one of is used with windows laptop)

Also running:

Ryzen 3700U laptop with 16GB RAM

Galaxy Tab A 2018 tablet

Using Deskflow to share keyboard/mouse between my Linux desktop and Windows laptop. The tablet is mainly used for monitoring, YouTube, and extra screen space.

The only Windows apps I still use are Creality Slicer and FrostWire since they don't work properly on Arch. Everything else I need is done on Linux.

I also use USB/IP and Syncthing across both systems for sharing devices and keeping everything synced.

Still trying to figure out a proper way to use the tablet as a secondary display with keyboard/mouse input.

My self-built wall mounted open loop setup

Post image
236 Upvotes

Got an idea to build a wood based wall mounted PC about a year back and pleasantly surprised with how it turned out (even though it was probably twice the effort and cost that I thought it'd be)!

The mounting surface is Cherry. I CNC cut mounting slots and holes in it to account for each component. The radiator is cut straight through the wood and there is about a 1 inch gap in the back (made possible by some rubber spacers on each corner) for airflow and wire management. Power button is under the desk on the left next to the Uplift controls. There is also a hidden button underneath to transfer both monitors and all peripherals over to my work laptop.

2 years in the making, it all started with some Govee lights behind my TV and has morphed into this. My next project is building a SteamOS PC with spare parts I have and changing out my 2nd PCs cases for the Phanteks EX series when they release, I am absolutely in love with the design. Sometimes I think I enjoy the building and planning as much as I do playing.
