Once one of the most important cities of the ancient and Byzantine world as it was the biggest port of the western Balkans (and is currently Albania's primary port). This city is where the Via Egnatia began and led to Constantinople. It also has the largest arena in the Balkans and some significantly thick walls. I explore all significant ruins from the Arena to the Byzantine Forum and the newly opened archaeological museum. Hopefully, if you come to Albania, this will give you an idea if the city is worth stopping in (it is definitely a mixed bag).

Hey! My friend and I are travelling from the UK and doing a road trip around Albania from 7–12 August. We’ve rented a car with 2 spare seats, so we’re looking for 2 fun, easy-going people to join us for the trip (or part of it). ONOMASTICS OF PREKORUPLJE

(Part II)

INTRODUCTION

This part of the work will present onomastic material from eighteen settlements in Prekoruplje. During the summer of 1977, I visited Berkovo, Biča, Grabac, Zlokućane, Klinavac, Leskovac, Mali Đurđelik, Rs-novac and Štupelj, and a year later Drenovčić, Dušević, Jelovac, Jodališća, Klina and Pograđe; during the summer of 1979, Radulovac was processed, and the following year, Voćnjak and Krnjinci. In the aforementioned settlements, I recorded 611 houses: 605 Orthodox and 6 Muslim.

BIČA (БИЧА)

Most of the village lies on the sunny side of the hill, and a small part of the hill itself. The village is located about 7 km north of Klina. The settlement is compact, with a few detached houses of recent settlers.

There are two Serbian cemeteries in the village. The old one is on the plateau of a hill and no burials are held there. In the middle of the cemetery, you can see the remains of the Svete Nedelje church, around which there are several stone crosses without inscriptions. The second cemetery is located on a hill next to the village. It also has foreign stone crosses, covered in moss.

There are two more cemeteries in Biča: the Gypsy Cemetery and the Latin Cemetery. The first is located on a hill above the village and the "Gypsies" from the village are buried there. The Latin Cemetery is located on a slope of the hill, north of the village. The locals believe that the Latins, who lived here before the Serbs moved in, were buried there. There are only a few stones in it, and sometimes the water reveals a few bones.

There is no primary school in Bica, so children study in the neighboring village of Štupelje.

It is predominantly inhabited by Serbs. There are 55 Serbian houses in the village; in addition to them, there are also four "Gypsies" houses. The average number of members in a Serbian house is 7.16 per household.

Thirty-one of the surveyed houses (one brotherhood) originated from the village of Vrbica in Kuči (present-day Montenegro), from where their ancestors, according to tradition, fled long ago due to blood feuds. Between the two world wars, six houses came from the Nikšić area. Four houses do not preserve the tradition of their origin. Three houses moved from Raška to Metohija, and came to this village from the neighboring village of Drenovčića. Three houses originated from Morača, and before coming to this village they lived in neighboring villages. Two houses originated from the Cetinje area; they came to Metohija at the end of the 18th century, and moved to Bič from a neighboring village. Two houses moved from Lijeva Rijeka (Vasojevići, present-day Montenegro) around 1880. One house moved from the Kuršumlija area, one from Kosanička Rača, one from Lebane and one from the neighboring village of Berkova.

Etymology: Bichanin and Bichanka, ctetic: Bichanski.

So, i am the guy who made that Balkan flag about two weeks ago (the Three Ideals one).

Well, i made another one!

So, this flag has a blue background, for the seas that encircle the peninsula.

To the left are a golden, red, and white stripe, that abstractly represent the peninsula itself.

The golden stripe represents the rich history of the Balkans, the red stripe represents unity, and the white stripe represents the Balkan people themselves.

The gold and red also work as a double entendre of sorts, as the name of the Balkans etymologically matches the two Turkish words "bal (honey), and "kan (blood)".

I also like to call this flag "RAF".

Why that name?

Because these three stripes look like the golden Rakija, the red Ajvar, and white Feta.

I couldn't help but see the similarity there.

This flag also has at least one colour used on every single flag of the countries that are typically considered a part of the Balkan peninsula.

After spending weeks searching Reddit for other people's experiences, I thought I'd give back and share ours.

We just received our Albanian eVisa today! 🎉 We are 3 traveling to Albania during the peak season from July 24th to August 8.

Timeline

• 29-30 June: Submitted our eVisa applications online. ( We thought that the 15 working days stated on the website referred to the whole process, but it turned out it was only after payment - So there's uncertainty in the process and timeline )
• P.S. : (1) The application portal was a bit buggy. We had some trouble uploading passport photos initially. What we did is that we put our photos on Claude and asked him to make it compatible with the e-visa portal / Chatgpt couldn't figure it out ) (2) When clicking on submit, there was an error and there was a notification to contact the embassy email, so we sent an email, and they replied after 4 hours with " please try again " we tried again teh same night it didn't work either, but the next morning we tried and it was submitted. First step checked.
• 3 July ( after 4 working days ): We have received an email stating "  your Visa application has been successful and is now registered online with application code .... " also status on the website change.
• 9 July ( after 6 days/4 working days ), we were asked to pay the visa fee through the Albanian embassy's designated bank. - status on website " waiting for payment "
• P.S.: One of the challenges that you might encounter is that they precisely ask for a bank receipt for the transfer that is signed and stamped by a bank employer. You won't face any problem dealing with a traditional bank, but you might face a problem dealing with a digital bank if they do not provide this kind of receipt. In the end, we managed to print an xml swift code, and a bank statement from a digital bank that they were stamped and signed by the bank employee that were accepted.
• 10-13 July: 10 July I submitted my payment, 13 July my friends submitted their payment. " status paid and in verification process appeared in the same day "
• 16 July: eVisas were approved for all of us. ( we linked when applying our visas to each other - on eof us submitted and received the visa tracking code, and we put it in our visa form when asked for during the application )

So the whole process took about 16-17 days ( 12 working days ) from the initial application and not from the day we paid.

Our advice

If you're applying to albanian e-visa:

• Apply at least 6 weeks before your trip if possible ( to be on the safe side for getting the visa one week prior to your leave / and you might get it earlier ). Even though it took us only 3 weeks, but they were stressful, especially because of their policies and procedures to process 15-30 working days after payment.
• Be patient—the portal isn't the fastest, but approvals do happen.

I am one of the moderators of this subreddit and the goal is to have a subreddit where people can share news and discuss about sports clubs of Crvena Zvezda that dont get much attention in which i mean the handball, waterpolo, vollyball, womans football, womans basketball, hockey, athletics, swimming, wresteling, fencing, boxing, chess, rowing, cycling, tennis club and many others.
