My apartment building recently sent out an email telling everyone that the building is too old to allow any AC units. They said its stated in the lease. Mine only states that window units are banned. I know they can technically ban both with an old building. I've lived here for years and its never been a problem, they just wanted people to put away their floor units in October.

But I have a medical condition that gets significantly worse in hot weather. I've already been struggling, even with my portable unit on.

Without AC, it was over 100° inside yesterday. It would be completely impossible for me to be in there. They're just telling people to use fans or go to cooling shelters.

I told them I have a permanent medical condition that makes heat dangerous for me and will provide a doctor's note if necessary. They haven't responded.

Is that going to be enough? There's no way I can get through this heatwave without it. It's 80° in my workplace right now and I feel so sick and drenched in sweat..An extra 20° on top of this wouldn't be possible

My Lesbian witch niece is the only non Mormon in her family and is pretty fed up with Utah. I am inviting her over for fall break to show her what life outside of Utah can be like and also to subtlety encourage her to live with me when she leaves the nest. We are actually in Sherwood so going to Portland will be an all-day thing. I know we will visit Kinokunuya, the museum...

My mom and I have compiled a list of allll the books I loved as a kid. I’m a foster parent and we had the cool idea of building a little book collection of all my childhood favorites for me to share with the kids I care for. Goodwills always helpful but does anyone possibly know of a place that just has a massive book section???

I just got a quote for a 3-zone mini split in an ~800 sq. ft. house, and I nearly had a heart attack when I saw the price—almost $24,000! 😳 Before I assume that's just the going rate, I'd love to get a few more estimates.

Has anyone had a mini split installed recently and can recommend an HVAC company that's honest, reasonably priced, and does quality work? Bonus points if you've had a great experience with a small local company. Thanks in advance!

The HVAC+ company that installed my system has a maintenance plan I pay for that includes spring (AC) and fall (heater) maintenance, annual water heater flushing, and free plumbing checks. I pay monthly and all that is covered each year. It’s a good deal, but I found out this company was bought by private equity, and when I needed a simple plumbing repair they quoted me $1700. I ended up doing it myself, and realized that my ongoing relationship with this company wasn’t helpful bc their prices for basic repairs is private equity level ridiculous.

I’m looking for a new company that has a similar type maintenance plan, but is individually/locally owned (by individual, I mean by local tradespeople, not investors. It doesn’t have to be owned by one single person).

Do you have a maintenance plan with a company you’d highly recommend? I’d love to get their info.

Please don't recommend a boat in the ocean, although if you could turn the lights off it would be ideal!

Had a medical emergency recently and had exceptional treatment from my treatment team at Legacy, and I wanted to see if anyone was familiar with any way I can submit their name for positive recognition. That was a pretty terrifying experience and I really can’t thank them enough, so if there’s any way their leadership could see the impact they have on patients, I’d love to be able to do that. Anyone experienced with starting llc and being a vendor at farmers markets and/or other venues that can help shed some light on where to start first. We are new and have developed recipes of making delicious cupcakes and specialty iced dark roast coffee (V60, aka pour over) and we really want to start selling but need to hear other’s perspective. Dm is open or here works. We’d love to hear your experience on how you started.

Here is what we envision:
1- form an llc+dba in Oregon, ein, bank etc
2- get liability insurance
3- apply to a market (get all permits needed beforehand and pray we get in)
4- get a portable cart/stand, do little decoration
5- buy equipments and signs/board
6- start selling

we don’t have anyone that has started something specifically in Oregon to ask so here we are and we would appreciate all the help

Note: we are no pro baker or baristas but we believe the products got potentials especially the coffee beans as it’s unique and flavorful so do our sweet cupcakes

I’m sure i’m not the first person nor will i be the last. But does anyone have an AC they are willing to part with. Please Dm, Yesterday was miserable between my home, work and running errands there hasn’t been a single bit of cool air or relief and It’s starting to make me feel crazy, as someone who comes from the land of central AC in every home I learned my lesson!

Tomorrow, PP&R opens their September sessions. I have an (almost) 5 year old who has been in swim for the last year & just moved up a ‘level.’

What’s up with them not having any swim lesson sessions for this next registration? We also have her in ballet $ gymnastics, both of which have less than 5 options this next round.

I tried to call but nobody got back to me-am I randomly doing something wrong or is this normal? She started in October of last year so I don’t know if this is normal with the start of the school year or something.

I'm taking my son out for something fun this weekend in celebration of my birthday. Looking for some fun suggestions we haven't tried yet. He likes games of any kind, hands on science, and music. He's not a fan of museums unfortunately. Things we've done so far and enjoyed:

Hey I am looking for cute, somewhat affordable sun dresses. I’d like to go somewhere in person instead of shopping online. All the major big stores don’t seem to have a lot of knee length or short options (check Kohls, Macys, H&M, and Old Navy). Anyone know any Portland options that aren’t boutiques where it’s $100 a dress?

I got my hair cut recently and its bad, so bad I don't want to go back to the salon I got it done at to get it fixed. Think of - I asked for a bob and they gave me a mullet. So far away from what I wanted that what I wanted isn't even possible anymore. This is the first time in my life I've cried over a haircut (dramatic, I know). I'm supposed to go an event where I'll be photographed in a week (the reason I got the haircut to begin with) and want to get this fixed ASAP.

Where would you go to fix a messed up haircut? Somewhere that can find creative solutions. Is there somewhere you just really trust? I don't even know where to start.

House shopping in Portland, it's obvious there are a lot of people competing for a relatively small number of houses in a specific type of location. That being walkable to shops/restaurants, on quiet roads, with sidewalks, nearby parks. Definitely *not* the car dependent suburbia/strip mall/chain restaurant model. Based on bids on homes, we're talking 10 people per available house. Just a mile or so outside that type of location, prices and competition drops dramatically. Portland is a city of neighborhoods, but it seems there are not enough.

Which makes me wonder, what's the barrier to more places becoming more desirable neighborhoods? Is it entrepreneurs to open businesses? Infrastructure? Zoning?

I am needing to vacate the building that his business is in. He has stock material that if you could use it I would like to donate it.

Thanksgiving for looking

Looking for a gym in inner SE with basic weight-lifting equipment (dumbbells, bench, squat rack, etc.) I don't need anything fancy. When looking around on Google maps, a lot of places seem to be more personal training studios than gyms. I am not looking for training. Anyone know of a good spot with just the basics? Ideally $50/month or less for a membership.

My mom and I have an overnight layover in Portland (getting in around 8:30pm on august 24). Are there any cool late night spots we should check out or should we get up early and find a cool breakfast/brunch spot before we leave the next day (flight at 10:50am)?

Planning to go this Saturday. I've attempted to go to the Canby one a few years ago but the wait to get in was about 3 hours so I left. I did go successfully the next year by getting there at opening time.

I have not yet been to the Canterbury one in Silverton but I hear it's smaller. I was wondering if anyone who went last weekens could provide insight on the crowd levels. Should I get there at opening time/did you have to wait to get inside?
