Our kid just turned 18, he doesn't listen to us at all and is extremely disrespectful, he's been like that for the last 3 or so years now, but lately he started getting really verbal and nasty.

He doesn't obey any of the house rules, does nothing to help out around the house, doesn't clean after himself and leaves mess everywhere, leaves food out until it spoils, walks around in dirty boots, slams every door, tosses and leaves his things all over the place, cooks himself food at midnight when everyone tries to sleep and leaves a mess for us to clean the following day.

When we confront him or just try to talk, he just gets extremely disrespectful and angry, won't let us finish a single sentence, he'll just tell us to stfu and make some snarky comments, laughing at the way we look or speak.

He's still in school, but got himself a summer job, he thinks he's better and smarter than every person who talks to him.

I'm literally at my wit's end with this kid... What can I possibly do to control him? I am losing my mind here.

For me it’s the INCREDIBLE drying. Getting through multiple loads of washing in a day, what a rush.

Some girls have been bullying my daughter, not tje usual bullying..

More excludinf her and constantly bellittling her to the point she is afraid to go out and play.

The parents of these kids think their daughters are angels and basically told us our daughter just needs to toughen up.

Talking about 9 to 11 year olds..

So my mam is elderly and lives alone and the house is up a long lane and can't be seen from the road. This morning she woke up and this car was parked outside her house right where my dad always parked before he died. About an hour later a man came up and ignored her talking to him completely and just got in and drove off. I'm worried about his motives. Can anyone think why he would have done this. Her nearest neighbours don't know anything about it. The Nct was out on the car.

A guy from U.K. who has a channel abt overcoming insecurity / lack of esteem & confidence etc, posted an insightful vid recently about how Irish people he’d randomly met travelling inadvertently & positively influenced a change in his personal (and broader) view of life.

Watched it through & he seems very honest/hunble , down to earth abt himself, seemed sound fella, the type I’d buy a pint for.

Anyway, I found it interesting to hear about how cultural traits (we might take for granted) when abroad can have a positive ripple effect.

We’re not perfect but I enjoyed learning abt simple , random things that left an impression.

I'm 40 and looking for a career change - I have a cert in business admin and have worked in admin almost 20 years. I don't even know where to begin. I know I will need to retrain/upskill and to fit in with family life this would need to be part time/remote.

I don't want to work in childcare or frontline healthcare (you lot are angels, I just don't have the patience) and finance would not suit me due to dyscalculia.

Where to begin?!

They're sealed, right? Do you have to keep the heat pump running constantly or open windows to avoid suffocation?

Our house gets unbearably hot in the summer because of large south-facing windows, so we're finally looking at installing proper air conditioning (wall-mounted split units), not just a portable AC.
Can anyone recommend a company you've had a genuinely good experience with? Ideally someone who:

-Supplies and installs quality units
-Is reliable and tidy
-Covers the Dublin/Wicklow area

I hope it’s okay for me to be posting here.
On Saturday 18th July, my friend and I got the Dublin Coach/ Green Bus from Limerick to Dublin City Centre, Route 300 arriving to Dublin City at 1pm. After around 30 minutes, my friend realised he had left his bracelet on the bus which contains our friends ashes. Obviously, this bracelet is very important. We contacted the green bus main office and they advised us to fill out the lost and found form, which we have. I rang again today (Wednesday) to see if there were any updates and I was advised that nothing had been handed into the office yet and they would follow up.
I’m wondering if anyone has any other suggestions on what to do? My friend is really upset, as I’m sure you can imagine.

Hi everyone, I'm trying to learn more about Ireland, and one thing I've been curious about is how similar or different everyday culture is between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. I'm not really asking about politics. I'm more interested in daily life and culture. For example:

1.Are people's personalities and sense of humour generally similar?

2.Is the social atmosphere different?

3.Are there noticeable differences in values, traditions, or ways of life?

4.Do people in both places generally feel culturally Irish, or is there a stronger British influence in Northern Ireland?

5.If someone moved from one to the other, would they experience much of a culture shock?

Hi everyone i m getting a car insurance quote with Allianz Ireland. When I search using the car’s registration number, it shows the wrong version of the car. If I search manually by selecting the make, model, year, engine and transmission, everything matches my car correctly, and Allianz lets me continue and even purchase the policy without asking for the registration number.

Has anyone experienced this before? Is it normal for Allianz to issue a policy without the registration number and add it later, or should I contact them before buying the insurance?

I’m just worried that if I get stopped by the Gardaí or have to make a claim, there could be a problem because the registration wasn’t entered during the purchase.

I’ve been offered a Team Lead position in a mid-sized Irish company. The original contract had a four-month notice period. I negotiated it down, but the company would only agree to 3.5 months, saying they need enough time for a proper handover.

Is this considered standard for a Team Lead role in Ireland? My understanding was that three months is more common, even for many manager-level positions.

I’m mainly concerned about how a 3.5-month notice period might affect future job moves. Do Irish employers generally wait that long for the right candidate, or could it put me at a disadvantage?

PS: l've already negotiated it down from 4 months, so there's only so far I can push without jeopardising the offer. After being out of work for nearly 6 months, securing the role is the priority.
Also, how serious can it actually get if someone only serves, say, 3 months out of a 3.5-month notice?

Hi! In about a month I’ll be moving to Ireland and I’m thinking of taking the train instead of the bus to Limerick from heuston station, after I arrive at Dublin airport.

I’m going to be arriving with 2x 20kg bags and a small 10kg one as well. I’ve never been on a train before and am not familiar with the Irish rail system. Is this too much? Is it possible to travel with this much luggage? Where does the luggage go?

I’m thinking of getting a 1st class ticket just for the wider seats. Is there a difference between the standard ticket baggage vs first class ticket regarding luggage allowance? I haven’t been able to find this information on the Irish rail website.

One last question: I know that Irish rail provides a transfer bus service from the airport to heuston station. Has anyone used that service before? Any information would be helpful.

Lastly, am I better off just taking a bus? My travel budget is not an issue thankfully so my options are a bit open.

Hi everyone, I keep hearing that there is a constant youth problem in Ireland, that kids freely harass people and block their paths, and that they don't get punished even if they commit acts of violence. When I researched it, I couldn't find many sources. I especially heard that under-18 youth turn this to their advantage, committing crimes with a "nothing will happen to me anyway" mindset. And they say that even if you are a tourist and respond harshly to their actions, you end up in the wrong rather than it being considered self-defence. How true is this? Does this situation really exist and how does it work? Why are people so protective even if the offender is a child, and isn't the priority in Ireland to protect the victim? Was it the same when older generations were kids? Do these kinds of things happen a lot outside of Dublin too? In my own country, even if a child commits a murder, things are starting to be softened with the concept of "a child driven to crime," I guess the view that "if it's a child, their environment is to blame, not themselves" is becoming widespread. What are your thoughts on whether this situation affects you and the children positively or negatively?
