I’d love to get an honest, mature perspective from men in their 40s and older about intimacy and sexual preferences. As people age, priorities, bodies, and dynamics shift, but sex and vulnerability often get left out of candid conversations.
I want to better understand what really makes men in this age group feel happy, fulfilled, and deeply connected in intimate situations, especially the things you might feel hesitant, shy, or reluctant to ask for directly.

So today I had a close call with an Audi Q5 or Q7 left hand drive that came around a blind corner at sped in the middle of the road, driver looked like he was on his phone. I stopped, and he had to swerve frightening the people standing for the bus he nearly took them out too. I was wondering if the worst did happen, what are the chances he’d actually have insurance to cover the costs for me or God forbid the pedestrian he might have hit!

Absolutely not an anti migrant post, I work with loads that are great people and contribute to society but maybe a gap in policing and a liability for all of us sharing the roads.

Hi everyone, I keep hearing that there is a constant youth problem in Ireland, that kids freely harass people and block their paths, and that they don't get punished even if they commit acts of violence. When I researched it, I couldn't find many sources. I especially heard that under-18 youth turn this to their advantage, committing crimes with a "nothing will happen to me anyway" mindset. And they say that even if you are a tourist and respond harshly to their actions, you end up in the wrong rather than it being considered self-defence. How true is this? Does this situation really exist and how does it work? Why are people so protective even if the offender is a child, and isn't the priority in Ireland to protect the victim? Was it the same when older generations were kids? Do these kinds of things happen a lot outside of Dublin too? In my own country, even if a child commits a murder, things are starting to be softened with the concept of "a child driven to crime," I guess the view that "if it's a child, their environment is to blame, not themselves" is becoming widespread. What are your thoughts on whether this situation affects you and the children positively or negatively?

My mother is in her 80s. She can walk but needs a rolling walker. If we do ireland maybe it would be best to use a wheelchair? But everywhere I see tours seem as though she will wind up stuck on a bus because apparently there is a lot of walking in ireland? I want to get her there, it's been a dream of hers. I would go with her. But is there a tour out there that would work for us? She def wants to see or stay in a castle.

Hi everyone, I'm trying to learn more about Ireland, and one thing I've been curious about is how similar or different everyday culture is between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. I'm not really asking about politics. I'm more interested in daily life and culture. For example:

1.Are people's personalities and sense of humour generally similar?

2.Is the social atmosphere different?

3.Are there noticeable differences in values, traditions, or ways of life?

4.Do people in both places generally feel culturally Irish, or is there a stronger British influence in Northern Ireland?

5.If someone moved from one to the other, would they experience much of a culture shock?

I'd love to hear from people who have lived in both or know both well. I'm looking for honest, respectful perspectives rather than political debates.😊 Thanks in advance!

Got severance 2 months ago and since then have been applying for jobs like mad before finishing up shortly. All I’ve gotten is rejection emails - no interviews and am really getting worried now. Sector is financial services.

I got a 1st year deal on broadband and tv with virgin media that expires in 9 days that I was planning on cancelling to change provider as it doubles in price after 1st year. However I only realised now that they have 30 day cancellation fee if I don’t cancel 30 days before end of contract.. does anyone know if there is there any way avoiding these fees 🥲🥲

I might be insane but sometimes in certain community subreddits that I am part of, and where I would know people who also might be part of that community sub, I get this sense that I recognise who I’m speaking with in the comments and I think I freak people out.

I don’t know if it’s that I’m hyper observant day to day so I notice their grammar/syntax and little ‘isms’ or if it’s genuinely energy I get from them through the screen. I don’t know how it’s happened but I’ve gotten it right quite a few times where I’ve identified people and they’ve confirmed.

I am the furthest thing from woo woo but just wondering if I’m alone or if I need to commit myself.

Hi! In about a month I’ll be moving to Ireland and I’m thinking of taking the train instead of the bus to Limerick from heuston station, after I arrive at Dublin airport.

I’m going to be arriving with 2x 20kg bags and a small 10kg one as well. I’ve never been on a train before and am not familiar with the Irish rail system. Is this too much? Is it possible to travel with this much luggage? Where does the luggage go?

I’m thinking of getting a 1st class ticket just for the wider seats. Is there a difference between the standard ticket baggage vs first class ticket regarding luggage allowance? I haven’t been able to find this information on the Irish rail website.

One last question: I know that Irish rail provides a transfer bus service from the airport to heuston station. Has anyone used that service before? Any information would be helpful.

Lastly, am I better off just taking a bus? My travel budget is not an issue thankfully so my options are a bit open.

I am angry angry angry, frustrated, exhausted, overwhelmed, stressed, broke, committed and just a tonne of other conflicting emotions. Long story short, I am going to do 2 PLC courses in Horticulture and Ecology followed by a Masters degree in Urban Design. I already hold a level 8 in design. My masters is a very difficult specialised course where I need to bridge my education gaps which is why I need these PLCs.

I work part time 3 days per week, having previously worked 5 days. I applied for jobseekers benefit in March and admittedly I made a lot of mistakes on the form. So it got rejected first time. Fine I appealed corrected the mistakes resubmitted it was rejected again because the appeals officer did not think I was genuinely seeking work. I retracted any statements indicating I wss returning to education. They said they were still not convinced. And requested evidence I was seeking work.

I have autism, adhd and with that comes monotropism so I didn't understand what evidence they meant. Yes you're reading this and thinking duh show you've applied for jobs. A+ For you. I wait 6 weeks hear nothing back, ask what's going on they rejected my appeal.

ONLY THEN did they say they need proof im looking for work. Look ill level with you, im glad you reading this are laughing at the absurdity that I didnt understand this basic concept. But sometimes I need shit spelled out to me, and ive read the operational guidelines several times and I still can't understand how the hell this beaurocratic mess works okay? Ive been at this since June 2025 trying to understand their policies and from the way they actual enforce their policies it changes constantly, they keep changing rules on a whim when it suits them. What do I mean okay.

Look the appeal rejected fine, I dont feel like escalating to the chief appeals board. I messed up my first application whatever I submit a brand new fresh application starting over. Nothing from the previous application should be remotely relevant at all. This is a brand new form right. They immediately reject it before I could submit any evidence only saying I hadn't lost a day of employed income, except I have i lost 2 days of employed insurable income and im only working 3 days instead of 5. And even if i deliberately cut my own hours and they argue that im rejected on this basis. Its now been over 14 weeks since my application was submitted so that fact is not relevant because *right now* the circumstance is i work 3 days per week. This time they wont let me appeal, except to the chief appeals officer. But this is a NEW FORM why does a new unrelated form have to go to the chief officer?

So I make ANOTHER new form and this time I just go to war on indeed.ie and jobs.ie I apply for over 40 jobs in a 3 week period. Again and again I compile all of it. I get all the forms they want done up80 up19 up1f Up420 everything everything. I sent email and email evidence and evidence. I do this for 2 weeks and I say in every email. Right now I am available for full time work. I will leave my current job if it means I will get full time work elsewhere. I am not going back to education. I am looking for full time work I want work work work.

So I send this in... I catch my breath, and I explained too about my monotropism and I point this out to them, that I would have made different decisions had it been communicated better to me. I wouldn't have made mistakes.

And I wait.. and wait.. and its REJECTED AGAIN??

she said again its because I didnt lose a day of insurable income. WHAT? This is now the 20th of June okay. I backdated my form to March and I figured hey alright they might not pay out April and may fine whatever. But she says I didnt lose any insurable income??? What has that got to do with my current circumstances. I work part time. I work 3 days per week. I'm in the limit for jobseekers benefit I know I am I checked and double checked!

So okay I know everything else must be okay, so she's made a mistake or something maybe she's bad at maths. So I say feck sake fine ill go to the bloody chief appeals officer. And I writer this 5 page detailed letter. Clearing up any possible ambiguity about my situation.

I say to him im moving to Mayo, ill be renting from two locations. Ill use my secondary home to find work. Ill look for work in Sligo, mayo, leitrim, roscommon, Galway ANYWHERE. I showed some rejection emails I recently received. I clarified the discrepancy I think was in the application. I will not be able to afford rent or my bills. And I currently can't afford them on my current income.

On the Swao II form it asks you if you want a call back, email, Web call, letter or website notification and I tick all of it. And say in my letter that I bloody need somebody to call me about this because I clearly must be an idiot at this point if my appeal gets rejected at this stage.

I go to my intreo office, ask for a referral to be sent on. I call the appeals office and tell them my appeal swao 11 form is in the mail being posted. I even bloody pay for express postage.

I think okay. Maybe it will be looked at with a new pair of eyes. Maybe somebody will hear my plight and approve my application. I get a notification today on welfare.ie it was a single sentence rejection letter saying its being rejected because I haven't submitted any new evidence that wasn't already known and that while the officer may have made a mistake, to go take it up with the local intreo office instead in Sligo.

WHATTTTTT??????

SO YOURE TELLING ME that you read all of my letter, and you basically told me to go away. You have to understand I'm not saying I poured my heart out in it, I just wrote rational and sensible circumstances and only the facts to the chief appeals officer. I was concise, with a clear structured plan in mind, and sensible decisions I was making. I hinted at my future career plans while stopping myself by saying its option A but there are many other jobs id be willing to do.

They didnt at any point acknowledge my neurodiversity, they didnt offer any additional accommodations to my circumstances, they didnt ask for any added forms that could help they didnt even go so far as to say "we have carefully read your well proposed letter".

Just nothing, no validation, no acknowledgement at my commitments or work nothing. Like sending paper into a void where all it does is suck your soul and kills any happiness inside you. Chtulu eat your heart out.

So thats it march, April, May, June and now July nearly August, and im sitting here like possibly the biggest idiot on the planet. Wondering how am I messing up this badly at what is a program that thousands of people use every week in ireland.

My semester starts In September, im broke, I live over a 2 hour drive from my college and even if I applied again first thing tomorrow morning im back to square one again, ill have to go and apply to a shit tonne more jobs again because if they see too big of a gap in my job hunt they'll say ive not enough evidence again. I dont even know what they mean when they say that. I speak to the guy at the desk and he mutters confused about "uuuh like job applications?" Are you asking me or telling me?

They expect ME to know what evidence they need, but won't bloody say what they want?! How am I supposed to know what they want. The chief appeals officer rejected mine saying no new evidence was given. What evidence?? What is it you need? What more is there?

So im back to square one again and im just gonna cry, why is the system like this. Why is it just so insanely cold and distant. Aren't they supposed to help me find employment yet they seem to want to complete opposite of that. Its like theyre actively trying to stop me becoming an urban designer. I explicitly even said my job would help contribute to the housing market, I could go on to be a town planner, which is on the urgent jobs list with rhe government.

I've emailed the intreo office again now asking for an appointment and im probably just gonna cry in front of them. I just can't anymore this system is so complicated and broken and confusing and above all uncaring.

Just wondering if anybody has experience with background checks for an airport security job? I’ve been told it’s a 5 year employment check done by a 3rd party company but I’m just wondering if anybody has any insight into this? I’m mostly wondering if they cross check the information against your cv, or is it a case of you give them your 5 year employment history and they check to see if they information you’ve given is correct against revenue records etc. Thank you.
