After a while on the hunt, my partner and I have stumbled across a nice flat opportunity. Good price, good size and nice area.

However, it's an Untermiete. Nothing wrong with that per se but I feel there's always a bit more that can go wrong with it.

We've already seen the flat (twice) and met with the Hauptmieter, who also seems nice and eager to have us, willing to meet us halfway in many things.

Everything seems perfect, almost too good to be true! So, being in Berlin, this stroke of luck seems a bit suspicious. Or maybe we're just being paranoid.

That's why we wanted to make sure to be as protected as possible and wanted to know, beside a Untermietvertrag, copy of the hauptmieter ID and Wohnungsgeberbescheinigung, what else do we need to be completely safe?

Anything else we can ask for/do?

We're also going to ask for the landlord's authorisation for the sublet but we really don't want to miss anything else.

My wife is on blue card and applying for PR (niederlassungserlaubnis) and on the document upload section, its asking us to upload a document of pension history of minimum 5 years.
If I’m correct, shouldn’t it be 21 or 27 months? She has B1 and has been working since 3 years.
Or maybe this is a bug?

The construction on Petersburger Str is hilariously slow. It's been going on for years, just to add a bike lane to a couple city blocks.

There is usually very little to no movement on the project - sometimes just a single person hammering tiny rocks into the sidewalk. Usually it's abandoned.

Someone told me that this is only half the project, that the intention is to do the other side of the road. This might mean a 6 to 8 year project!

I ask because the construction is very annoying (dust and dirt everywhere and in the air) plus honking cars that get trapped in the closed-off streets.

Is there a place to lookup what the project plan is?

And more generally, why does it take 8 years to add a bike lane? This reminds me of how long it took to build the new airport. Isn't German Engineering supposed to be a point of national pride??

I received an email from the M4 team regarding my PR (Niederlassungserlaubnis) application. They're asking for an official A1 German certificate, since the university-issued A1 proof I submitted wasn't accepted.

However the email didn't mention a deadline for submitting this. Just has the below and looks like an incomplete sentence

I'm trying to figure out the best approach because A1 results take a while — should I go ahead, book the exam and just send the certificate once I have it, or should I first let them know now that I'm booking/have booked exam and will submit it soon?

Would appreciate any advice from people who've been through something similar!

I was just wondering if I could get someone else’s similar experience with LEA and to see what response timeline they had.

I applied for the extension of my worker permit 18b abs1 on 11th of May. Downloaded the pdf with Antragsbestätigung und Fiktionswirkung, surprisingly it contained info about a bluecard too, I assume it is due to paragraphs change related recently and my salary fitting the blue card requirements.

In any case, I do not have any reply from LEA still, which is 2 months. Afterwards later in May there were other news, and my employer will be closing down (i will be employed until the end of the year) I reached out to LEA via the contact form to inform them, but again no reply about that. At this point I start to wonder whether their email with an appointment never made it to my mailbox or something else happened. It is my first application in Berlin, I wonder if this is causing a delay, I had lived in other german cities before and fax usually sped things up but not an option here.

Does anyone have recent experience with LEA and their response time?

Hey everyone, I'm spending 4 days in Berlin (mid September), staying near Neukölln.

I'm 32 and much more into exploring a city than drinking. I'm a bit over the usual recommendations of curated vintage shops, matcha, and pastry spots (nothing against them, just not what I want my trip to revolve around).

I'm keen to rent a bike. Is Berlin a good/safe city to cycle in? Any local etiquette or things I should watch out for as a tourist? Would also love recommendations for good routes.

Besides that, what would you recommend? Happy to do a museum or two, but not spend my whole trip indoors.

I (f33) was friend with a guy (m38) who lives here and owns some apartments. I was staying in one his rooms for some months. I told him while moving in that I need this place for a year so I can settle in and get my job sorted and he agreed. Now after just two months he is urgently telling me to move out because his girlfriend wants to move in at this place. He's given me two weeks. Do I have any legal rights? He comes whenever he wants to this place and he did had sexual favours from me as well. Unfortunately there is no paper contract, just WhatsApp messages. I come from ukraine. I think he found another vulnerable girl who he wants to use as a sex puppet and he doesn't really have one girlfriend. Can someone advise what are my options?

I just moved in. I’m living in a temporary apartment in Berlin and there’s a weird situation going on. T seems like the landlord is not really used to have people really living here, just spending holidays.

The key for the mailbox wasn’t handled with the other ones. Now I asked and he just said that nobody ever needed before. I’m not sure if I have energy to fight for it, but I need my mail! Specially in Germany…

Is there an alternative for it? Can I rent a box at some place?

Hello fellow Berliners,

we are playing that game and can't figure out lvl 2. We were at the location, found all 7 pictures & symbols on the signs on the poles and the texts on the backsides. The Cake and B makes sense if you count the letters on the backside of the signs (3rd letter is a B). But on the Welcome sign, the number doesn't match the X (its letter no. 82 and not 84). We cant find the right pattern to the solution. Tried a lot of counting and maths of all kinds everywhere, used the app and the map. Nothing, found the numbers on the poles, but still no pattern (beside the fact that they seem to belong to the street numbers).
Someone mind giving us a little hint? Just a hint, not the full solution..

I'm working on a project that's basically a game where the player tries to re-integrate Berlin's public transport between East and West in 1990 (don't ask how I got assigned this 😅).

I have this map from 1987. As I understand it, the light green lines are the regular S-Bahn (today's Ringbahn), and the dark green lines are regional trains that one could ride with the S-Bahn tariff. Am I correct?

Furthermore, I'd like to hear from anyone who rode the S-Bahn in the 1980s.

• How was it?
• Was it clean, dependable, and on time?
• Did the trains break down often?
• How was the staff?
• Did they check tickets often?
• How common was riding black?
• How affordable was it (assuming you worked in the DDR)?
• How was the border control at Friedrichstraße station? Were there any other controls on the S Bahn line?

Lastly, for people who rode both the West and East Berlin S-Bahn, were there any noticeable differences? I know that, especially before 1984, West Berliners generally avoided the S-Bahn.

Really, anyone who can share their experiences would be much appreciated!
