I’ve recently joined an Asda express about 2 months ago, when I had my interview I was told my shift would be Tuesday 6am-2pm as I’m only on an 8 hour contract. I also told the manager and team leader about some days I would need off for medical reasons and a pre paid holiday I had booked. I also made them aware I can’t work past 6pm one week day and I can’t work Sundays, they said this was fine as I’m only on 8 hours a week.

When I started I only got 2 weeks training, one on days and one on nights. Then I’ve been put on completely random shifts for the rest of my time here, even Friday nights without any conversation about it.

I asked my team leader about it and he said he would sort my shifts out for me. This was 3 weeks ago and now I’ve been put on two weeks of 2-22 on the days I cannot work, when I asked about it he told me to sort it out myself as he didn’t have time, as he has now been promoted to manager. I have also been put on nights again on a Friday even when he said he would sort it out for me. I’ve also recently been made aware by a coworker that the manager told them I was specifically hired to do nights, when I was not aware of this at all.

Should I speak to him about it or just deal with it?
Friday nights are the busiest and it is very difficult on your own. We also have to do half of the day shifts jobs and clean the back because they always leave food waste and stock all over the floor and covering the fire exit.

Jobs are being advertised at their Bedford depot, I currently drive for Co-op out of Biggleswade. I'd be interested in this job as wage looks similar to current, hours are similar, it's nights which I've always preferred (but might not fit with my family life now, we'll see on that), it would probably be a fair bit easier physically (no 100kg+ cages up hills on broken pavements) and it would cut the commute in more than half saving me well over £100 a month in fuel.

But, I see so much negative press about the company, and feelings on here seem to back those up. Without throwing the woe is us drama, do you really feel the company is going under under or is it just a shitty period? As just a customer, with the exception of too fewer checkout staff (every shop ever though, right) I haven't personally seen all these issues when I shop in the 2 Asdas near to me.

Are there any other Asda HGV drivers on here willing to comment?

My colleague told me that they’ve been reported to the police for ‘leaving the scene of an accident without exchanging information’. They scraped a parked car while reversing, the colleague reckons he had no idea he’d done it (hence why he drove away). Owner of parked car had no proof it was him. Van not damaged. Manager got cctv and yep it was him.
Does it not seem a bit petty that the TP has gone through the police? Like they had already contacted Asda to sort insurance so why bother?

Just want peoples opinions on it really

Team Leader here, had one to one today. Was told no more set days off, which is an issue as they sync up with my partners. Manger could not confirm if we would still have one weekend off a month. Asked if we have any guarantee that I would not just be put in all evenings and was told that it would be fair.

What is the endgame to all this, stores will have a the same number of staff who won't give a toss about what state places will be left in or how the job is done as they will be in a diff place later in the shift. Five minute training on how to run self-scan or home shop is not sufficient to do a reasonable job.

In our store colleagues and TL's with long standing agreements of when they can't work due to childcare arrangements and other personal situations are being told they must be fully flexible and any prior agreements will not be honoured.

Heard a colleague describe it as the end times. The only option we really have is just go along or leave, has any unions made any statements about the change?

What is the notice period of a service colleague who’s been at the company just under 2 years?

I have been paying into my pension for 25 years. I presumed there was a mistake years ago but, its basically worthless. Is this right? Is there another pension somewhere, where they changed providers?

Original: I've got a first aid coyrse tomorrow from 8:45am-4pm at another store. The notice apparently says I have to go to my normal store and clock in there first, even though my normal store is in the opposite direction from the training location. They're not super far apart (25 min between them on a bike) but it would still require me to get up at 5am.

My section leader said that previously clocking in at the other store would have been fine, as it would have shown as an alternative location, but they’re unsure how it works with the new exceptions report.

Has anyone done training at another store recently? Do you genuinely have to travel to your home store purely to clock in first, or can you clock in at the training store and have any exception corrected afterwards?

Anyone else having this issue with labels, no matter what you do they will not stay on the totes, it’s causing mayhem in the pod

I refuse to work on certain roles such as checkouts so I'll be looking for a new job if I get forced into it.

Just thought I would ask whether these new changes would mean that we would get different shifts and days every week or not?

Was just in my local Asda as the case deals on fizzy pop are actually quite decent just now

As I walked in the front door, there was 4 staff having a big debate with each other, quite irate and knowing what I’ve seen and read on this Reddit, I’m guessing the shit is beginning to hit the fan as they are told the good times are over.

But it almost cemented the reason Asda need to make this change. The carpark was noticeably quiet, the store was a total bin - but there was 4 staff stood at the front doing nothing, chatting to each other. Granted they’ve probably had a rough news day - but my perception of Asda is that they’ve always got enough staff to stand around in their fleeces. (Remember the ‘woman with the arrow’ at the tills - what a luxury!)

My local Lidl seems to run with about 4 colleagues to run the entire store, and it’s tidier with better stock levels than the Asda!

Asda delivery driver drove the van on the pavement, ended up damaging the traffic sign. Happened in Manchester near the Victoria station.

Anybody else's Team leader never on frontend but is always complaining they dont have enough colleagues?

Always in office talking away or spending most of the day doing rotas?

What can we do?
