Established arborvitae now suddenly brown.
galleryWe planted this row of privacy arborvitae 3 years ago and they’ve grown well. We live in KS and it’s been hot the past two weeks but not any hotter than a normal KS July. This tree was nice deep green and within a week uniformly lightened to pale green and then quickly all brown. The inner branches are still slightly green but the outside is crispy brown. There are no bag worms, no spider mites. Then we noticed each tree in the row has these gashes around the base of the trunk. We have landscapers mow/weed weekly. Could the damaged trunks be from the weed eater and could that damage have caused the one tree to stress and die?
