[Help!] Useful Amiga Links Directory

For quite a long time now I've been curating a directory of useful links to Amiga content. Somewhat as a FAQ, somewhat to help quickly give people info when they ask about things. So I've enabled the wiki on this subreddit to make it a bit more accessible

Amiga Directory

If you think there is anything missing or would be useful to add please do say and I'll get it added

[Discussion] /r/Amiga AI Policy reiteration

We updated the subreddit rules a while ago to try and make it clear where we stand on the use of AI on the board. But I guess it isn't clear as we're now in a situation were readers are reporting every single post that either mentions AI or even seems passingly like AI might be involved. To clarify:

Not Allowed:

  1. Posts where the content (text, images) is generated by AI. That is, cutting and pasting the text Chat-GPT generated is not allowed
  2. Applications that are wholly vibe coded such that all (or very nearly all) lines of code were generated by an AI

Allowed

  1. Applications where AI was used for code assistance

All of which is to say, please stop reporting every single application that mentions that AI was used.

How to run Amiga test kit with a defective keyboard?

I recently found an Amiga 500 in the recycling center.

I have now gotten Gotek with a usb drive from amigastore.eu. Everything loads up fine but the keyboard on the Amiga seem to fail on many keys - the arrow keys works but many of the other keys does not work. This includes the keys I need to add the adf file to the list of images to be able to boot from it.

So how can I auto start the amigatestkit.adf image without using a keyboard?

[Discussion] (OT?) Amiga AB sells electrical articles?

A curious observation which is possible OT.

I just bought an extension cord and noticed the sticker said Amiga AB.

The cord is made by Intertek, so I assume Amiga AB is an importer/reseller to the Scandinavian market, based in Sweden.

I don’t have time at the moment to check it further, but their website is https://amigaab.se/

Can anyone assist identifying the colour of the Amiga 1200 in the attached pic? Is it a purchasable case or do you think it was 3D printed privately? I am in love with this colour!!!

As per the title, I stumbled on this picture advertising Amiga Format Christmas Issue with a delicious green A1200 case and I want one!!

But where can I find such a colour? Does anyone recognise it? I can see a badge saying 'HULK II', which may (or may not) be a clue, but I have been looking online without any hint of success.

The article is here and I left a comment, but its 15months old and I don't really expect a reply...

Has anyone seen this colour before?

Amiga 500 downloading from Aminet with PaulaNET

Finally got it working decently with Workbench 3.1 A500+ 2Mb chip tuned with M-Tec 020/881/4Mb, BSC SCSI controller with BlueSCSI and Rob Smith's PaulaNET wireless adapter. TheWire13 as TCP/IP stack.
Got it working also with 3.2.3 but it took too much ram, basically leaving the iBrowse running on chip ram only, and boy that was slow. Now with 3.1 everything fit inside 4 megs of fast and its much smoother.

Paulanet is not very fast but it may be because of many things, i'll get to that later.

Took a few days of testing but its finally online.

Sorry for the mess

OpenTTD 1.0.5 on classic 68k Amiga - native AGA port, playable, no SDL

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Back in the day I had an 040/33. Transport Tycoon is, personally, one of the best games ever made, and I could never actually play it on my Amiga. That stuck with me for an embarrassingly long time.

So I fixed it. I've ported OpenTTD 1.0.5 to classic AmigaOS on 68k, and it's playable on 030+fpu.

https://github.com/angree/openttd_amiga_68k/releases

You can run it in lores (including an overscan mode) when you want speed, or in hires interlaced AGA when you want it to look right. The interface font follows the resolution so the lores modes are actually usable rather than a squashed mess, although windows need some moving sometimes. Picasso96/RTG support is coming - the driver is structured for it - and right now I'm working on sound.

There is an older OpenTTD floating around for 68k, but from what people say it was never really stable and it's pretty outdated. This is a fresh port with its own native video driver rather than anything SDL-based.

Is creating this in 2026 slightly absurd? Yes.
I just wanted one of my favourite games running on my favourite platform, and now it does.

(edit) Minimum specs: OCS, 24MB RAM, 68020
Recommended specs: AGA, 32MB RAM, 68060/68080 cpu

Since initial release we went down from 040+FPU to 020. Now with OCS, AGA and Picasso 96 support.

(edit) Done with the help of Claude Code Opus/Fable and Codex Sol, and as so marked in the Github repo.
You need to set up stack to 1MB for it to work. Since version 0.8.1 it includes icon that does that for you. If adding to startup-sequence for auto-boot remember about setting stack first.

Released open source with GPL-2 license.

[Amiga 500][early-mid 90s] Children's edutainment game — a room where you pick between several mini-games, one of them a jigsaw puzzle

Platform(s): Commodore Amiga 500. Played in Poland, so it could have come from a copied/PD disk rather than a boxed release.

Genre: Edutainment / activity collection for young kids.

Estimated year of release: Early to mid 90s. I played it around then as a small child.

Graphics/art style: Colourful 2D cartoon art, aimed at preschool age.

Notable characters: My clearest memory is an anthropomorphic cat, drawn as a child rather than a realistic animal. I think there were a handful of characters or objects to choose from, maybe 4–6.

Notable gameplay mechanics: The hub was an indoor room — house or nursery-like, not an outdoor scene. From that room you picked one of several mini-games. The only one I actually remember playing is a jigsaw puzzle, and I believe you got to it by clicking the cat. There were definitely other activities alongside it, I just can't recall what they were.

Other details: Text was possibly English, though I'm not certain. This memory is 30+ years old so individual details may be wrong — the room and the jigsaw are the parts I'm most confident about; the cat is the softest detail.

Already ruled out: The Playroom (right vibe, but no jigsaw and the mascot is a mouse), the Fun School series (menu screens, single mascot, no jigsaw), Noddy's Playtime (has a jigsaw, but the hub is driving around Toytown), ADI Junior / A.J.'s World of Discovery (right structure but the hub is outdoors), Castle of Dr. Brain, Amy's Fun-2-3 Adventure, Pepe's Garden, Reader Rabbit, Barney Bear.

GAMES!!!

Direct Software (Northampton, UK) – The Amiga store that promised a port of "Phantasmagoria". Anyone remember them?

Body: Hi everyone,

I’m looking for information about a company called Direct Software, which operated out of 166 Birchfield Road East, Northampton (NN3 2HF) around 1996–1998.

Most people might remember them from their standard mail-order ads in magazines like Amiga Format (attached a scan below in the first comment). However, there is a fascinating piece of lore surrounding them. In the late 90s, they managed to generate massive hype by announcing incredibly ambitious software projects for the Amiga, including an official Amiga port of Sierra's "Phantasmagoria", alongside their own project titled "The Haunted".

Given that 166 Birchfield Road East was (and still is) actually a local locksmith's shop, Direct Software was clearly just a small mail-order operation or a back-room setup. Yet, they were promising to deliver a massive port of Phantasmagoria to a dying platform.

Does anyone know the backstory of this? Who were the developers/owners behind Direct Software that were trying to pull off the Phantasmagoria and The Haunted projects? Did any preview materials, rolling demos, or design documents ever leak to the community before the dev team split up?

Would love to hear if anyone has any memories, inside info, or old photos of this era!

Deluxe Paint IV legends - what are your best tips and tricks?

I'm starting to do more animation and design on Deluxe Paint and love how powerful it is. I want to learn the fake 3D perspective stuff, figure out AniBrush which seems super powerful and generally just get more proficient with it to make cool short logo and menu animations.

I've been following off the Deluxe Paint IV video tutorials from back in the day but thought i'd ask if anyone still uses it or remembers some power moves from back in the day they'd use all the time?

One thing i'm keen on figuring out is the automated animator that pushes to the next frame when you click your brush down, it rushes through the frames too quickly. Also, how to animate a 'draw on' effect so that it keeps your last stroke on the next frame.

I"m on an amiga 1200 running DPIV AGA with a Blizzard IV

[Eureka!] Help identifying a metal style combat platformer

Hi all, I need help identifying a game I had for my A600 back in the day. It was a side on platformer with combat, heavier on the combat I think.

You played as a barbarian type and I think you had an axe. It had a really dark, tone. As far as I recall there were upside down crosses in the background with people crucified. Mainly implied via silhouette.

Also I think there was a distinct score. Ring any bells for anyone?

Success!!!

I'm quite sure the game was The Plague, mentioned below. 8 was wrong about the axe, the player sprite looks like a barbarian but carries a blaster in the YT vid. Thank you to all for the help!

[Collection] My Amiga 500 retrieved from storage after 30 years

This got put into storage in 1996 when my wife and I moved for a new job, and earlier this year we finally cleaned out that storage unit. Was dreading pulling this out because I was sure it would be a mess, but the thing looks almost brand new.

Unfortunately we lost the power supply in the cleanup. Waiting on a replacement before I can power it on.
