Massive glitch five days ago resulting in 1.5B in fees to customers - I was just affected last night - check for unknown Amazon charges!

so five days ago a glitch hit Amazon systems resulting in 1.5B in fees being charged to customers. apparently it’s an ongoing glitch - today I was affected (rather last night when I was asleep) and reached out to Amazon today about the unknown charges and I was refunded to a gift card and told that it was a technical glitch affecting my account.

I removed my payment method and recommend everyone remove their saved payment methods for safety. just manually re-enter when purchasing and then delete the saved payment again.

keep an eye on statements. this comes after Amazon was fined for a couple class actions and sued by the government - and now this will undoubtedly be another class action so I had the chat and confirmation of the incident sent to my email for documentation.

So, I ordered a Switch 2 on 7/14 when it was on sale for 10% off. Since Amazon requires a 4 digit code for some deliveries, I chose Amazon Day Delivery for 7/17 when I’d be home to sign for it. 7/17 comes around and I get notified that the package is delayed until 7/21. I thought oh well, but it kinda sucks because overnight shipping was an option when I ordered.

So it’s 7/21 and I get another notification about a delay and a new delivery date of 7/27. I ended up getting on chat with support to request a courtesy credit as they’ve already blown two promised delivery dates. The agent says they’ll give me a $10 promo credit after the delivery arrives and to check with support then. Bro disconnects immediately after (classic Amazon). Shortly after I refreshed my order history and I see my Switch 2 order was canceled. WTF?

I ended up requesting a phone call and asked to speak directly with a supervisor. I asked why it was canceled and if they could honor the 10% discount. They said fulfillment canceled it due to it being out of stock and that they couldn’t restore the discount. Well, it wasn’t out of stock because the listing page said in stock for 7/27 delivery. I mentioned that and asked if they could provide a $50 gift card or promotional credit to “make things right.” He says no he doesn’t have the option to do that. So here’s how that conversation went …

Me: Can you override it and either adjust a new order or give me a gift card or courtesy credit to offset the cost?

Amazon: Yes I can override it

Me: Could you please override it then?

Amazon: No, it’s against policy

So after some unproductive back and forth, I decided it was no longer worth it and hung up.

After all that, no Switch 2 or $50 discount. And to that I say.. thanks for nothing, Amazon!

FINALLY FOUND OUT THE SOLUTION TO CONNECT TO AMAZON CUSTOMER ASSOCIATE

I have been trying to contact amazon customer care service since 2 days and none of the following numbers work:-

1800-1200-9009
1800-3000-9009
1800-1200-1571

Use the following steps to get connected to their customer associates:-

  1. Open amazon shopping app.
  2. Click “Rufus”. Their AI chat bot.
  3. Write a prompt.
  4. It will give you 3 options. Click “Live Chat”. Do not click “Call Us” right now because it will take you to that annoying page where the doggo is running xD.
  5. After clicking “Live Chat” you will further get 2 options. Now click “Connect with an Associate”.
  6. Confirm your mobile number and click “Call me”.

Ordered some curtains because it’s seriously hot right now. Will be delivered on Monday, same day. But no…then it’ll be delivered overnight…but no…now it’ll be here by midnight tomorrow. Doubt I’ll ever see them. I hate these people.

Don't fall for it like I've did

Amazon promised me a $143 refund, then admitted their own support lied.

I wanted to share my experience because I've been an Amazon customer for years and this is honestly the worst customer service experience I've had.

I originally ordered 3x AMD Ryzen 5 9600X CPUs for $131.35 each during a sale.

The order wasn't cancelled because I did anything wrong. Amazon's fraud/security system flagged my payment and asked me to verify that I was the owner of my credit card. I submitted all requested documents and my account was verified.

By the time everything was resolved, the CPUs had gone back up to $179 each.

I contacted Amazon support because the cancellation happened due to their security process, not because of anything I did.

Here's where things get ridiculous.

First agent:

  • Told me the CPUs would become available again.
  • Confirmed I would be able to get them for the original sale price.

When that didn't happen, I contacted support again.

Second agent:

  • Explicitly instructed me to buy the CPUs again at the higher price.
  • Told me that after delivery Amazon would refund the price difference.

So I followed their instructions.

After the CPUs were delivered, I contacted support again.

Third agent:

  • Couldn't issue the refund.
  • Escalated me to a supervisor.

Supervisor:

  • Confirmed my original cancelled order.
  • Confirmed the original sale price.
  • Told me they were submitting an internal request for the refund.

A few days later I contacted support again because nothing happened.

Another agent:

  • Confirmed the refund.
  • Told me the refund amount would be $142.95.
  • Sent me a confirmation email stating I would receive the money within 5–7 business days.

I waited.

Nothing arrived.

So I contacted Amazon again.

This time another representative told me something completely different:

Instead, they offered me either:

  • return all three CPUs, or
  • accept a $25 promotional credit instead of the $142.95 I had been promised.

The situation became even worse because I had already shipped the CPUs to Bosnia and Herzegovina. Returning them would require international shipping that Amazon refused to pay for, even though I only bought them because their own support repeatedly promised I'd receive the refund.

In the end I was left with:

  • paying about $143 more than originally agreed,
  • several hours spent talking to customer support,
  • multiple contradictory promises,
  • a written email confirming a refund that never happened,
  • and finally a $25 promotional credit instead.

The worst part isn't even the money.

It's that multiple Amazon representatives independently told me to buy the products and promised the difference would be refunded. I relied on those promises when making my purchase. Later Amazon simply admitted those promises were "incorrect" and refused to honor them.

I have screenshots/chat logs of every conversation, including:

  • the agents instructing me to reorder,
  • the supervisor escalation,
  • the email confirming the $142.95 refund,
  • and the final chat where Amazon admits the previous information was wrong.

Has anyone else experienced something like this? Is there anything else I can realistically do at this point?

My card was charged 5 times when I only tried to place an order three times, I’ve reached out to Amazon and they said they’d open a ticket, has this happened to anyone?

The place where I’m from has an option for Amazon groceries. I usually buy from there, but yesterday I encountered an issue. The payment screen would go through, but no charge yet, the order would load for an ungodly amount before canceling. It happened three times before I gave up. But a few minutes later, my card was charged. Originally I thought it was just lag, but then it was charged 5 times. I reached out and the costumer service worker told me at first that there must be some outage or something and the refunds would go through, just not to order anything in the next 24 hours. I reached out today, and eventually was redirected to the payments team. They got my info and told me they’d open a ticket to investigate, contact the bank, etc and told me to wait 72 hours.

I’m more so concerned about whether or not I’ll be getting my money back. I ordered three times, my card was charged 5. An additional sixth time happened but then it was instantly refunded. The worker from the payment team said they can only see three charges. I had to clarify and send the picture of the repeated charges. Over 200 was taken. Has anyone encountered this issue? Was it resolved?

Do they refund import fees?

In Canada and bought from Amazon US. Returned the item. Customer service assured me they would be refunded but my refund email amount doesn’t include shipping and import fees. I insisted he sent me an email confirming the whole thing will be refunded and he said that he would do it but obviously it was to get rid of me, and he didn’t.

Does anybody know for sure the answer to this?

Customer service has been jerking me around and lying about an order stuck in "delayed." Won't ship, won't cancel, won't refund. Is there anything else I can do?

Almost 2 weeks ago, ordered some basic stuff. Said it was out for delivery, never showed up, then got marked "delayed." Tried to cancel and was denied. First customer service person said they escalated it and it would be shipped from a different facility and arrive the next day. That never happened. Second rep said the same thing. Once again was complete BS. A day later I got an e-mail from Amazon that the order shipped, but the order page still said "delayed" and the tracking number on the e-mail led nowhere. This was a legit e-mail and was also in my message center but again it was a complete lie, nothing shipped.

Back on with customer service asking what would cause a fake shipping confirmation and why this has turned into such a mess and I'm pretty sure they were a chatbot. Eventually they offered a refund and I said fine. Refund never happened. Got back on with rep #4 and was pretty rude at this point and they left the chat, someone else joined, they sent a message that said like "this issue is now resolved," and it actually closed the chat window and deleted the chat. With rep #5 I was a little nicer and they offered a refund as well as a gift card. Of course neither happened.

The order was like $100 worth of supplements that I've bought multiple times. I don't know how or why this became such an insane clusterfuck or why Amazon is being outwardly hostile and lying constantly, but is there anything else at all I can do other than try to do a chargeback through my credit card? I've never had anything even close to this ever happen before. It's like bizarre and perplexing why they're being such scumbags over something so mundane.

EDIT: Today 7/22 Spoke to another rep. This one said since the order is still being processed it can't be refunded. I said bullshit, they said they "spoke to leadership," and a refund will be issued in 24 hours and a $25 credit has been added to my account and then closed the chat. Of course no $25 credit was added and I'm assuming the refund was a lie like the last 2 reps who said they issued a refund.

So it looks like this thread was downvoted for whatever reason and I'm sure no one will see it at this point, but just in case I'm once again asking if there is anything at all I can do in this situation? Again, I apprehensive to do a chargeback as I heard they can close your Amazon account over it, but I don't think I have a single other option.

Who knows, maybe tomorrow I'll actually get a refund, but if the last 12 days and last 6 conversations with Amazon reps are any indication, that's not happening.

Lack of prime shipping?

I feel like for the past two weeks I’m no longer getting the option for two day shipping. Am I the only one? For example I ordered something today and it won’t be here until Monday. That was the fastest it would come. I know that not everything is two day or next day, but I am talking about regular every day Amazon fulfilled items. Does anyone know what’s going on?

Suspicious seller

Hello i recently filed a return for an item, amazon approved it and sent me a return label but they said there might be a return cost and that the seller would get back to me on that. The seller got back to me we have had a good back and forth they kept repeating the same questions and i kept repeating myself. They finally told me that the label amazon sent me was gonna charge me and that theyd send me a new free return label. They also told me to cancel my amazon return and just return the item using their shipping label. They sent me a blurry fedex label and i found that odd because thats never happened before. I looked around to make sure the label would work because again its blurry and google told me to download the fedex app and scan it. I did as they said and the code worked perfectly fine however the label they sent me says "on the way" and that it will arrive on the 23rd. I find all this very suspicious should i contact amazon before using the sellers label to return the item?

Amazon delivery driver made racist comments to me — how do I follow up after reporting it?

Long story short: I’ve had ongoing issues with a specific Amazon delivery driver not delivering packages to my door properly, and I’ve complained multiple times through customer support without any real resolution.

Today (July 21) the same driver came again, and I wanted to ask him directly why this kept happening. While I was trying to get an answer from him, I also took a photo of his license plate in case I needed it later — not to block him or his vehicle, just to document things. During this, he made some pretty ugly comments about my ethnicity and my height, basically mocking who I am. I was on the phone with an Amazon supervisor at the time, and afterward he apparently told them I was the one being hostile and using abusive language, which isn’t true — I was upset because I’d just been insulted, not aggressive toward him.
I also have video from a separate incident on July 8 where the same driver was clearly mocking/making fun of me during a delivery (not the racial comments, that was today, but it shows a pattern).

I called Amazon and spoke with their Incident Response team, explained everything, and sent over the videos. They said they’re investigating and collaborating with the local delivery station.

My questions:
Has anyone dealt with something like this before — did Amazon actually follow through, or does this usually go nowhere?

Should I be doing anything else on my end (documentation, human rights complaint, etc.) in case Amazon’s internal process doesn’t lead anywhere?

Is it worth escalating beyond the Incident Response team, and if so, how?

Beware: Amazon uncanceled and delivered order

I ordered an air purifier for my elderly parents when the wildfire smoke was bad. I deliberately selected from the few and more expensive same-day delivery options.

The item was not delivered that day and showed as Delayed in the system with a note that if it did not arrive in by the next day, I could cancel. It did not arrive the next day and still showed as delayed with no estimated date and no information about where it was. I cancelled the order. It showed cancelled on my Orders page. All of this disappointing as my parents did not have access to this critical item when needed. But it gets worse....

Yesterday, I got a message that the order was scheduled for delivery today. Note that this is the day that most of the air purifiers on the site would have been delivered. I checked my account. The item still showed as Cancelled. There was no option for me to do anything about it.

Today, it was delivered. And boy was it a challenge to get Amazon to agree to do a pick up return for free despite the fact that a regular return would have meant my elderly parents somehow taking this large item to UPS.

Service was rude. They acted like they were doing ME a favor. She even stated that I was asking them to give me a gift. They also have no verification that it was ever cancelled and expected me to provide a screenshot. I will not be refunded until the item is logged as returned--up to 30 days. All of this despite the fact that this was their error at every point.

Next time, I'll try Sam's or Target or just about anywhere else.

Returning to UPS, packaging required question

Hello. I’m hoping someone can help me…with all of the recent changes to Amazon returns, my only option for a particular return is to return the item to a UPS store that requires I package the item to be returned.

So, my question is:

If it comes in one of those reusable Amazon bags, can I return it to UPS in the same bag - or do I have to use a box?

TIA!!

I have the free student prime that only starts charging in January 2027, and i have no other purchases than the $54 one, no one else shares my account and even if they did, there is no order history equaling the pending charge. I did submit a question to Amazon but im worried they wont be any help and i need to know sooner than later if i have to report this charge to my bank.

Wrong product received - refund delayed

Upvotes

I recently ordered a mini thermal printer for my sister's upcoming birthday and received a moisturizer worth like 200-300 or something (I forgot tbh it's been a while). I raised a wrong product received request immediately and the product was picked up the next day. The refund was expected latest by 22 july (today) but it has been delayed. They got the wrong product back on 16th July and have still not processed it. I raised a customer support ticket and they told me to wait till 26 july before contacting them again. What should be my next steps? Also, i didn't take any pictures/videos to keep for the wrong product. I know that was stupid of me. I only took 2 pictures through the returns page and they were directly uploaded to Amazon. I do not have them in my gallery.

Organic onions

I like buying certain groceries via prime, fresh & whole foods. However whenever I order an organic white onion they substitue a regular onion and hope I won't notice. It's pretty obvious as the regular onions are huge. I got refunded both times, but I guess buying organic produce from them is a bad idea.

Order confirmation emails

Has anyone noticed the change with Amazon's confirmation emails? They no longer show a picture of the item you bought or the title of the item. Instead, they are using generic descriptions of what you ordered. I assume it's a security thing, but I don't know. Does anyone here know why they started doing that?

Switching Carriers

Does anyone else know why Amazon will switch carriers? I got my order today and it was shipped out by USPS, I don't know if it's something to do with the package but 9/10 times it's an actual Amazon truck showing up. I have no problem because my package is still getting to me either way. But I'm just curious
