These spent long enough in storage. From back in the day when sniping eBay auctions were fun.

I recently made a trip to PA and found this lighter at an antique store for like 25 bucks. I’m brand new to collecting Zippos and wanted to know if there is anything special about this one. It’s very slim and a bit smaller to all my typical daily use ones. Thanks for any help you can offer!!

Sucker Punch Sweepstakes Zippo

Upvotes

Afternoon all, I'm trying to find some information about the Titled Zippo. I picked it up thrifting years ago for a few bucks as I kind of liked the movie and thought the design was cool.

It has the movie info on the back, the flat decal on the front. Not the raised prop one my google searches keep giving me.

From what little I can find, they only had 25 made, but the the extent of the info. I'm considering selling it but I'd like to know more before I make a decision.

If anyone has any details of the Sweepstakes, where it ran or just an educated estimate of what its worth I'd appreciate it!

NSFW Zippo pibe insert - trouble keeping the pibe going after igniting

Post image
Upvotes

Hey, I'm a new pipe smoker but have used a Butane blowtorch lighter before this and could easily get my pibe going for about 5 minutes. Now with my brand new Zippo Pipe Bhutane lighter all I get is a bit of ember and can barely keep it going for 1 minute. Am I doing something wrong here?

Advice/Help No Butane Pressure?

I've had the Pipe butane insert for over a year and I've run into an issue. I use Zippo brand butane because it's the only nozzle that works with the inserts (the others available to me have metal nozzles or are the wrong size).

After a few fills, the butane cans (both small and large) seem to lack the pressure to fully fill the insert. A can used for about 5 fills will no longer fully gas up the insert and instead of a week, I get about a day or two of use. The can is still very full. If I buy and use a fresh can, the problem goes away. I bleed the insert before every fill.

Anyone else experience this?

I have like 4 butane cans that feel like they're over half full and I can't use them 🤷‍♂️

This is the last of the three 1968s I received in a lot purchase. I think it’s interesting that Sunoco paid to have these engraved outside of the factory as opposed to ordering them direct.

Advice/Help discovered that an eraser can remove patina from a lighter surface"

Upvotes

I tried using a simple soft pencil eraser to remove patina from my lighter. Surprisingly, it cleaned the surface without polishing compounds. Has anyone else tried this method?

What to do with worn scrimshaw?

I’ve had other scrimshaws that were even worse than this was so I peeled off the plastic part and polished them and you can’t even tell they were scrimshaws. Would this be worth more plain and polished, or as is?

I found this in a junk pile at a resale shop, and I'm trying to figure out how old this lighter is. Is it Korean war era? Or did the owner engrave this on a later model lighter?

I've googled the patent number and I've been getting mixed results.

I appreciate any help you guys can give me.

This one seems pretty special. It is a 1968 Brushed Chrome (well worn) and says “10TH ENGR BN ADM PLATOON” “KITZINGEN GERMANY” in the front. The back says: “PAUL BOSSERT JUNE 67-JUNE 69.”

I got this one last week in a lot purchase so pad about $10 for it.

Hi everyone, I stumbled upon this NOS 2000 JDM Zippo set with a matching silver ring (Serial No. 0046). Bottom stamp is E XVI. Has anyone seen other serial numbers from this specific cross motif run before? Any info on total production or catalog background would be appreciated!

Advice/Help Importing Zippos as a "Dangerous Good"

Japan has some sweet Zippos. Unfortunately, because they are classified as "Dangerous Goods" by international aviation authorities and postal services, they can only be shipped to the US if it is "rendered incapable of ignition," i.e. the flint simply removed. But every Japanese proxy buyer and freight forwarder seizes them regardless, despite it being legal if the flint is removed. I want to be able to buy Zippos on Yahoo Japan/Mercari. Has anyone been able to find a way to accomplish this?

Advice/Help How to clean old forgotten Zippo?

Post image
35 Upvotes

I found my old Zippo in a box from back in the day in a recent rummage through some old boxes.

It's looked better, I know.

I don't smoke anymore but it has a bit of sentimental value so I wanted to bring it back to its former glory a little.

I tried looking up how to clean it, but got some conflicting advice about what to use, and so I thought I'd ask people with more experience on how they'd go about it.

Any tips for someone looking to bring an old friend back from the brink?

Edit: Never mind, I was being an idiot - I won't be cleaning it thanks to the wise words in the comments.

Advice/Help I just got my FIRST ever zippo and need help!

I just picked my first ever zippo up and need help discerning whether I f**ked it up or not

Before lighting it, I (somewhat haphazardly) set the wick so that it formed a 'snaking' configuration inside of the body and pushed the rayon balls inside, I do not know whether or not I was supposed to 'fluff' the balls first but I just kinda jammed them in there while forming the wick into an S. I also cut the wick a little shorter because I wanted to avoid the flame being too large. Since I first bought it, I have been fidgeting with it and lighting it up somewhat frequently for fun.

it is now the next day/night after picking it up and the wick is beginning to look black, I know that the wick is supposed to burn but I worry that I have messed it up somehow. It (sometimes) takes multiple strikes before it catches fire. Did I do anything wrong and can I fix my 'mistakes'? thanks!

Collection My collection.

Post image
21 Upvotes

This is my collection as far as I can find Right Now. I think there's 2 or 3 more, but I don't remember.

The Seattle supersonics lighter, I think, was my first carry lighter, and as you can see, I wore the hell out of it, the next one that was my main carry was the Hard Rock Cafe in Myrtle Beach (which no longer exists) i stopped carrying the Seattle because the hinge broke and the top fell off, I stopped carrying the hard rock because the hinge got loose, my next/current carry is the butane one (bottom right) and I started off carrying a regular flame lighter, but I made a comment to my grandmother about preferring the the torch, because I wouldn't have to refuel it every couple of weeks (I quit smoking, but I still liked having a lighter to play with and you never know you need star fire or give someone a light) so for Christmas a couple of years back, she got me the Torch lighter for Christmas, so I switched it out and put the original one in the butane lighter box.

The slim lighter i don't know where I got it from and my name is not Joey.

The 2A lighter I would like the carry, but when I got it from my friend, it had already had a bunch of the picture worn off so I decided against it.
