Switched to YTM about 2 months ago after almost 6 years of using Spotify. My main issue with Spotify is that the library is just too small. Yes, I could use local files for music that isn’t on the platform, but downloading them on multiple devices and manually adding titles/album covers was just annoying. (And SoundCloud is a wasteland where you can’t actually find what you need, plus a lot of artists are “region locked”, so it wasn’t even an option.)
YTM offered a free month, so I figured I’d give it a try. And it’s great! Huge library, with almost everything I need from a streaming platform. But there are still reasons I’m considering going back to Spotify.
Firstly, Spotify Connect. I used that feature a lot. I loved being able to control playback on my PC from my phone. I tried connecting my phone as a PC remote control with different apps, but they’re all messy, laggy, and pretty annoying to use..
Secondly, the UI bugs and glitches. I’ve had to restart the app a lot more than I ever did with Spotify because of small UI issues that sometimes make it unusable. It’s not a huge problem, but I definitely notice the difference.
Other than those two issues, I really have no problems with YTM. Having basically all of YouTube as a music streaming platform is amazing, and discovering music has become much easier. (Spotify’s algorithm just sucks. I don’t think I clicked on a “Made for you” in years.)
But I do miss Spotify Connect feature quite a bit. I used it daily. None of my Spotify Wrappeds in the last 3 years have been under 100k minutes of listening time. I listen to music a lot. Small things like Spotify Connect can be deal breakers for me.

If you have any suggestions on how to improve YTM experience, I would really appreciate it. And if you switched platforms, how was your experience?

If they wanted to stretch the album cover, in my opinion the third option would look much better than filling the entire screen; some covers look extremely strange.

I'm giving YouTube Music a try, I don't listen to a ton of music (I go through phases) but the ad-free YouTube is a great advantage over other music services, and it's hard to beat YouTube for more obscure stuff.

I've been listening to more podcasts or similar kinds of longer running tracks on the YouTube Music app on my iPhone... for instance, I've been chipping away at a few 11 hour compilations of a radio show I like maybe 30-60 minutes at a time. The frustrating thing is that I can't seem to find a way to get it to consistently resume where I left off.

There are times where I know I'm about 50 minutes into it on the YouTube Music app... but next time, I click it in my speed dial area, or track it down manually in my history/library, click on it, and it starts at like 3 minutes in for some reason. If I don't have it memorized where I actually left off, it gets pretty frustrating because I tend to listen to this stuff while I fall asleep, and I'm usually too impatient to fight with it figuring out where it should actually be, or I'm too tired by the time I pause it for the night to look at the timestamp.

There also seems to be consistency issues across like, YouTube Music the app, and YouTube music the website on my PC... but this seems intentional. I kinda miss the way say Spotify synced across devices a bit more fluidly.

Are there any tricks to improve this? Even if I just need to make sure I'm starting/closing/stopping tracks the correct way, that's fine. I would just like it to be a bit more consistent with remembering where I left off in longer running tracks.

I recently cancelled my YouTube music subscription. Figured I can listen to music with ads similar to Pandora. But I can't listen to music when I open another app or close my phone. So I might as well just listen to music on YouTube like it's 2010? It's basically just a podcast app without premium access. I'll say this though, they let you add your own music on desktop and listen without ads.

Many people don't like the way the album cover can be expanded, but it does look good and somewhat different.

If you long press on a track after searching for it in a playlist, the "remove from playlist" option isn't even there. And there isn't a sort A-Z option in a playlist. So you have to scroll down and manually find the song to remove it. Good lessons on how terrible UX can get?

And don't even get me started on the rigged shuffle "algorithm" it sucks so bad some tracks in a playlist are repeated so often more than others that you literally want to remove the song from the playlist just so it doesn't.

Like how incompetent is the team behind YTM ? It's genuinely the worst software I've ever used from google. I've been a YTM user for years and the pull towards Spotify is just increasing by the day....

i use Samsung Galaxy A56, and i don't think im the only one having this issue because there's another person on the subreddit who is trying to fix this, they came up with a solution, it was to delete the app and re-install it and see if it fixed the issue. I tried doing it, everything turned back to normal at first, but when i closed the app and loaded it back, the app updated itself and the issue continued, i can't even listen to Eminem's song "Without Me" because of this stupid issue. Because the whole freaking album is gone with a bunch of other music videos, someone, PLEASE HELP.

TLDR: 2024 -> now: song in playlist good, now: playlist song unavailable, can play outside.

I have a song that was active in my playlist (playable) from the beninning until now recently when its format was fucked up by stupid youtube. Now it is unavailable in my playlist (red rectangle 2nd pic) but still playable outside when searched (1st pic)

I keep getting spammed with AI "Artists" like this guy for example. There is no way to block an artists completely so my only recourse is to dislike every song that gets put in front of me. The only issue is that these guys create more songs faster than I can listen to them.

Please put a stop to this.

I want to get YouTube Premium Family with my coworker. If we set up the account at our workplace, could it be like we share a household? Has anyone experience with something like that?

My friends and I are planning on buying the YT family plan even though we don’t reside in the same house. However, we plan on putting the same residential address on our accounts before buying it.

Will our accounts still get flagged by google for having different ip addresses? I heard that it automatically checks addresses (not sure if ip or home address) if they are the same.

So in the past like 2 days a ton of songs suddenly disappeared off of my yt music app. Like one album that has like 12-13 songs only shows tracks 8 and 12. I tried searching them individually and they don’t show up there either. Some singles if I click on its “album” page the tracklist is completely blank. Not even grayed out or smth it’s just blank. What is going on and has anyone else suddenly had this issue?

For context, I did not listen to the black eyed peas before listening to Cocteau Twins, so the "first song you listened to's lyrics staying for every song" glitch does not apply here. The last song I listened to was Gone by The Sundays (second photo) and the lyrics on that song are wrong as well! Does anybody have any guesses or answers?

Just curious how many YT Music users employ the app EQ settings or do you listen without and let your external device "color" the sound?

5 more "artists" blocked. Not sure what's going on with some of the other quick picks, some are genres I never listen to, some appear to be songs listed by record labels whose pages show 10+ albums released in the last year but under many different (real) artists.

It seems that a lot of my other recommendations are based around American patriotism and Christianity for some reason....

How long before I have blocked every AI artist that YouTube wants to push on me?

Is there a way to report this to get this fixed? While all of Takanaka’s music is still on his page, this kid is somehow also listed as Takanaka, making it to where you cannot create a mix from Takanaka’s actual page.
Also, YouTube seems to have this Bacco kid mixed up with another older artist by the same name
