Given that this year's Yorkshire Day (1st August) is on a Saturday this year, I thought I'd take the family up to this year's host town - Goole - to witness the celebrations.

It's a bloody good job I checked to see what was going on, because it appears Goole Town Council can't actually be bothered to publicise any events - https://goole-tc.gov.uk/events/ - even if they are doing something.

The Yorkshire Society themselves don't seem that bothered either - they're having a private event which involves a public parade in Goole but don't want to tell people where it will be or what time it will run. I even emailed The Yorkshire Society to ask why they weren't doing anything to publicise it and they basically told me to f**k off.

I'd have thought that both these bodies would want to get some local tourism money out of an event, but apparently not.

I’m reminded of what Jasper Carrott said about it: “Weird place, Goole. All the cafes close in the dinner hours”.

Fancy not wanting to make any money for the town on a Saturday in summer on an internationally-known event. No wonder this country’s fucked.

p.s. the next time Yorkshire Day is on a Saturday is 2037.

I’m travelling to Skipton this weekend from Ireland and have a few hours to kill on Sunday afternoon! I was hoping on watching the All Ireland Football final!

Is there any known pubs around Skipton that show GAA matches or is it a complete non runner?

Any other recommendations in the area welcome!

I live in Yorkshire anyway, but even so, I still find this area of the county to be utterly spectacular.

No shade at all it looks beautiful. The new stuff going up not so much but the older buildings with the weathered brick looks amazing.

Edit to say I'm outside York and noticed this in the surrounding area, villages etc. Google told me this is classed as North Yorkshire. My apologies if that's incorrect.

Will the new PM being a Northerner be a good thing for Yorkshire, or will it get left behind in favour of his beloved North West?

He's very pro-Manchester, and his best mate is the Metro mayor of the Liverpool City Council. I fear Yorkshire may not get much from him.

3 things you might not know about Cawthorne besides the obvious Cawthorne Park.

I know it’s been asked a million times so I apologise for asking again!

2 adults, 1 primary school aged child and 2 dogs. One of the adults is a primary school teacher. We like train & bus access and would prefer to be walkable to a few things (pub, library, village hall, nice dog walk etc). Here are the recommendations we’ve been given so far with a priority on safety. Is there anywhere else you’d suggest checking out?
