7 months in with kettlebells

Just turned 41, and I think my midlife crisis is just trying to get healthier.

I've just been doing kettlebell workouts at home. Started in December. Black shirt was February, gray shirt was just the other day.

I've definitely gotten bigger, but I know I've still got a long way to go.

2026: The year of the great recomp 😎

I’ve been in and out of the gym my entire adult life. I’ve never been super overweight but I never really felt I saw the results I wanted. I’d workout super hard 5x a week for a few weeks/months and then something would come up like travel or a cold or a busy period of life and I’d fall off, lose my progress and start back up again in a few more weeks/months. 2026 has been different for me: Over the last 6 months I’ve only missed 1 consecutive week of weight lifting, and haven’t had fewer than 3 workouts a week, even when traveling. I think consistency has been the biggest factor here. Happy with where I am now but still working to improve :)

What changed? Might sound corny but honestly: self love. I’m much more confident and in a happier more stable place in life now. I switched careers and left a relationship that wasn’t serving me. Turns out taking care of yourself is the natural consequence of respecting yourself. You take care of what you love.

Ever felt super motivated getting into exercise only to feel drained and exhausted a few weeks later? Is this just a mental barrier?

Starting this summer break I thought I would try different things with exercise just so that I don’t feel either bored or like it’s too repetitive. I would go running in different places and go to a close by gym and work on different body focuses. Yesterday I skipped, today I went but felt exhausted. Is this all just in my mind?
