My wife has started her own speech therapy clinic in what used to be the town's bank. The landlord said the vault doesn't lock. Well, while rearranging today, we discovered the vault does, in fact, lock. Thankfully I was clever enough to make this mistake from the outside of the vault, although I have it on good authority (e.g. my wife) that apparently there's a lever inside the vault that lets you open it. This wouldn't be that big of a deal except we just moved 90% of the therapy supplies into the vault for storage.

As far as we know, no one has the key, and no one knows the combination. The documentation says the lock was last serviced in 1969. There is a 6 digit code stamped on the handle. I tried using that as the combination, but that didn't work. We have a locksmith on the way, but he says this can be easy, or a total nightmare.

Please help us, else the town may never speak again.

No key, can't open it. Maybe we should crowbar it?

It’s an old antique chest from my grandparents. We have no idea what’s inside, and of course the key is long gone. It’s an old Yale lock, with the numbers 436 inscribed. Is there a generic key for this lock, or would it be trivial to pick? And advice on how to non-destructively open it would be greatly appreciated!

There's a wall safe embedded in a bathroom cabinet of my family's house in France, built in the 19th century. It's been there my whole life and we never tried to open it. Now we're selling the house in a few weeks and I just can't let it go without knowing what's inside.

The safe was hidden behind somewhere between 3 and 6 layers of wallpaper. Nobody knew it was there.

From what experts on r/Antiques and r/safecracking have told me, it's most likely a Bauche Incombustible from the late 1800s, a French manufacturer.

We don't have the key or the combination, and we have no idea what's inside. The safe has apparently never been opened since the house was built.

So… what do you think is inside? 🤞

This is my grandfathers safe. I’ve never opened it once. It was in his will for us to go over it and I’ve seemingly found the instructions he left himself in his later years that matches up what was put in his will.

I have no idea how to open it properly. I can feel some of the mechanisms not quite catch but the dial will get heavier so I feel like it still works properly and I’m just doing something wrong.

I work at a Goodwill, and learned about this safe today. It has been in our security director's office for 7 years, nobody knows what is inside or where it came from. The (alleged) combination is taped to the side of the safe but nobody has been able to open it. Could someone please explain how to interpret the combination?

My father in law has this old accordion case from when his son was taking accordion lessons 30+ years ago. Time has claimed the key. I’ve tried any random near sized key I found in the house but nothing.

I’ve started looking for lock smiths in my area. But I’m wondering if there’s another solution.

Would a lock smith be able to open let alone rekey?

Should I just start looking for a new case and break this one open?

We’re going to be taking it on a plane soon so I’m hoping to avoid any issues with TSA wanting me to open the case.

He was actually just going to get rid of it. I don’t play the accordion (I barely play the piano) but thought it might be cool to pickup a new instrument… in my late 40s.

The locks seem to be a sort of notched key with a groove (like a regular lock or house key) but very small. There are two rotating disks: the inner and middle rings. And the you push outward to open the lock (one side was already unlocked).

Heavy duty safe around 200kg Digital lock with key but dont know the code Its either a 4 or 6 digit code

Currently trying to figure out how to get in and open it! I believe its a 1951 NCR Cash Register, and I'm trying to see if there is a way in without plugging it in, mostly because I can't. One of the prongs is bent and rusted so I'd rather not try that. Anyone know or have an idea over how to get in?

Had this apartment for 6 years, never got around to trying to open it. Previous owners said it's empty and don't know where the key is. I'm not convinced until I get it open.

How do I go about opening it? Angle grinder to the hinges and then pry bar?
