How Can Small Acts of Kindness Improve a Patient's Experience?

Healthcare is about more than treating illness. Compassion and human connection can make a meaningful difference in a patient's experience.

The Party Treatment Initiative, sponsored by the National Pre-Medical Association (NPREMA), was created to bring joy and encouragement to patients by celebrating birthdays, holidays, graduations, and other important milestones during their hospital stay. The initiative also gives students and community members an opportunity to volunteer, serve others, and make a positive impact through simple acts of kindness.

As we continue to grow, we hope to expand the Party Treatment Initiative to colleges and communities across the country. Volunteers, supporters, and student leaders all have an important role in helping this mission reach more patients and families.

For those who have volunteered in hospitals or community programs, what have you learned about the impact that compassion and human connection can have on the people you serve?
