First of all, a massive thank you to everyone who joined this very special beat challenge. This wouldn't have been possible without the support of the Nobody Here film crew and the mod team at r/vaporwave. Hanging out in the virtual empty mall with you guys and listening to all these tracks has been incredible. The sheer variety of vaporwave styles and creative directions you all came up with completely blew us away!
After a lot of tough deliberation, we are thrilled to announce the winners:
1st Place: u/AgenteEspecialCooper for https://www.instagram.com/p/DZSvlMasV2Y/
The production technique and the use of the bundle to build such an immersive world made it our outright winner. We loved how perfectly it synced with the video, beautifully capturing and amplifying the tension. Congrats 🙌
Runner-up: u/BadRabbit1973 for https://youtu.be/Xnre-OUTnMA?si=jwH1zHSlIlzDmnuM
Another gorgeous score clearly composed with the Vanitas clip in mind. It's fully fleshed out, cinematic, and release-ready.
3rd Place: u/Eleganzbt for https://youtu.be/GZPPd7QYgpU
If there's a monologue that belongs in an empty mall, it’s this one. Wonderfully nostalgia-loaded and packed with perfect retro vibes.
You will receive a DM from an official Native Instruments account shortly to claim your Komplete 26 bundles. If your project has been selected to be included in Nobody Here’s future releases, their team will be reaching out to you separately. Thank you again to everyone who participated and made this challenge so special!

Are there any specific requirements for my submission?
Yes. You must build your track around one of the unused film clips provided from Nobody Here: The Story of Vaporwave, and your beat must use at least one free product from the Komplete Start bundle.
Am I limited to using only the Komplete Start bundle?
Not at all. You are welcome to use any other VST instruments, effects, or plugins. You can also use your own original recordings and third-party sample libraries, provided you own the rights to use them.
Can I submit more than one entry?
To keep things fair, each participant may submit one entry only.
Can I make a beat for more than one clip?
No, please choose only one of the three available clips. You are welcome to choose either the vertical or horizontal format of that clip.
How long does my track need to be?
Your track should cover the entire length of your chosen video clip.
Are collaborations allowed?
No. To simplify prize distribution, submissions must be solo entries.
Can I submit just the audio track?
No, all entries must be submitted as a video. We want to see how your beat brings the footage to life!
What programs or apps can I use to make music?
You can use any DAW or music-making app, on desktop or mobile, just no AI-generated tracks.
Can I share my video and track on social media?
Of course, we’d love to see your creations! Please tag @ nobodyherefilm and use the hashtag #MadeWithNI on Instagram so we don't miss them.

When I first got into vaporwave ten years ago, I discovered 80s Japanese city pop which was a fun experience. And lately, my hyperfixation over vaporwave is back, and this time I wanted to produce some as well.
While I express my interest with vaporwave, at the same time I would also like to introduce people to music from where I'm from the same way I was introduced to Japanese city pop, so with this album I sampled some songs. I listed the sampled songs in the album visual on youtube if anyone's interested. Here's the link to the youtube video: https://youtu.be/YY5ZwRk501U
I also have 3 original compositions from this album, I'd like to do more original compositions in the future, i'm still figuring out my approach on making original tracks for this genre.
Anyway, let me know what you guys think! I would highly appreciate y'all's feedback!

I found out recently that, about five years ago, an NFT collection featuring new animations by Kidmograph for each track on Birth of a New Day was released on a website called Nifty Gateway. Thing is, the website got shut down, and I can't seem to be able to download the videos from Kidmograph's original website either (not even viewing the source code).
Does anyone still have the original .mp4 files? If so, can you upload them on Google Drive, or on the Internet Archive or somewhere else so we don't lose them? I was able to download the one for Distant Lovers from this archived page, but that's about it.

A couple years back, I wrote a college essay about Vaporwave's cultural origins, impact on society, and reason for being based partially on a post I put in THIS VERY subreddit that got 47,000 views and 37 comments.
Really appreciated learning about the music from the community that makes and cherishes it, a community I'm now happy to be a part of. I really enjoyed writing this.
For legal reasons, I have to say you cannot use this for any academic purposes without giving credit.
I've attached my paper for anyone interested in reading (with professor name changed). I hope you find some interesting insights!

I know he’s been talked about plenty, but these NTS mixes in particular really have that hypnotic vibe to them. I quite enjoyed!

Hey everyone,
I’m looking to dive into making music for the first time, specifically focusing on Signalwave and Mallsoft with the goal of writing full, structured tracks for albums.
As a visually impaired person, computer DAWs and screen-heavy setups aren't practical for me due to extreme eye strain and visual fatigue. I need a hardware solution where I can rely on muscle memory, physical controls, and tactile feedback to build complete, atmospheric tracks.
Because I pick up new concepts and hardware workflows quickly once I get my hands on the gear, I’m looking for a solid mid-range hardware sampler or groovebox that fits this style of music.
Without suggesting any specific models, what hardware sampler or groovebox would you recommend for my situation? I'd love to hear what gear you use or think would work best for someone in my position.
Thanks for any insights!

Hello, I’m looking for good Vaporwave albums that aren't just heavily reliant on funk or soul samples—avoiding the kind that simply take original melodies and just slow them down. I’m looking for highly original productions with an airy, liminal feel—something like Ahero, y o u r d i s c o v e r y, h º r ¡ z º n щ ¡ r e l e s s, Satin Sheets, Simple Syrup, Mindspring Memories, etc.

If you need something to listen to while fishing, or maybe you live in a desert and want to imagine yourself fishing. Either way a fun album. The artist seems to be on Bandcamp mostly. I don't know much about Vaporwave honestly but the artist calls themselves that so I posted it here.

https://lavideoteque.bandcamp.com/album/midnite-sensation
𝘔𝘪𝘥𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘦 𝘚𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯. Il n’y a rien à expliquer. Seulement une certaine façon d’habiter la nuit.
𝘔𝘪𝘥𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘦 𝘚𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯. La nuit n'est pas un décor. C'est une coupe parfaite.
𝘔𝘪𝘥𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘦 𝘚𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯. Une chaleur qui ne demande rien
𝘔𝘪𝘥𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘦 𝘚𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯.. Le plaisir est une discipline.
𝘔𝘪𝘥𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘦 𝘚𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯. The Midsummer night's dream
Midnite Sensation is less interested in nostalgia than in the language that once imagined the future. It begins with surfaces: warm nights, polished chrome, perfume, seduction, desire, sex and the illusion of intimacy, before gradually revealing what remains when those promises lose their certainty. Once, they were the vocabulary of a world convinced that pleasure could last forever. Now only its perfume remains.
