VST Plugins Reverb effect plugin i've been working on

Thumbnail youtu.be
6 Upvotes

I’ve been working on this reverb effect plugin for a while now and I thought I’d share a video of how it sounds. So far I've just been running synth sounds through it but I'm going to test it on more soon.

The plugin blends between four distinct reverb environments, each with its own character and accompanying atmospheric sound bed. The sound beds are dynamically gated by the input signal, so they become part of the effect and become imbued into the input sound rather than just playing continuously in the background. This creates some very immersive textures.

The four environments are:

Mountain

Forest

Shore

Sea

The position of the little robot controls the blend between them allowing me to smoothly interpolate from one environment to the next and create a wide range of atmospheric reverb textures.

This allows intermediate settings to combine the elements of two neighbouring environments, creating a wide range of spatial, tonal and atmospheric reverb characteristics.

Still needs some tweaking to get the filtering right and the plugin still needs a name but so far I like where it's going.

video tutorial I made a (sample free) Vaporwave track from scratch

Thumbnail
4 Upvotes

As a longtime fan of Vaporwave culture and music, I wanted to do this project differently by creating everything from scratch rather than sampling an existing song. To do that, I recorded original performances on my Yamaha DX7 and electric guitar, produced the track from the ground up, and then transformed it into a Vaporwave. When I played it for a friend, he said it reminded him of classical "Weather Channel" music, which inspired the title, "Local Forecast." This project was created purely out of a love for the genre. I just wanted to share something original with people who appreciate Vaporwave. Much love!

discussion Macintosh Plus Music Video - 5 months of work

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I had to make this music video for Macintosh Plus. Does this reflect the Vaporwave Genre? You guys are the experts and I'd love to hear your opinions. No AI was used.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4A9rZA4Eag

Extra instrumentation was added to compliment the song and make more "roboty." Does it fit?

This was made using Syntheyes (3D tracking software) and Blender. I get that it's a little slow. The joints on the robot don't make any sense. I worked on this every weekday on the train to and from work.

I think Macintosh Plus just deserves a good, high-end music video. Have any of you made a music video for your music? What does it entail?

I'm such a sucker for anything Juno and love love love their chorus. There's a free one built into FL studio, but this big post has a normally paid free option and some always free alternatives.

Chorus is very 80s sounding and thickens up stuff so we'll, this one particular

question How to achieve THE 'Hauntology' genre sound?

I adore music so much, it has helped me an amount I cannot count. The 'Hauntology' genre just connects so immensely with how I feel about life, I cannot afford expensive synths or DAWs but I want to try making my own sound within this genre.

Hauntology is described as an instrumental palette of samplers, tape recorders, turntables, found sounds, and analog synthesizers that seek to evoke cultural memory and aesthetics of the past. Electronic music that sounds dark ambient with eerie familiar hypnagogic soundscapes.

Help:

As stated, I don't have a lot of money but would love to try making my own hauntology songs, but am unsure where to start. Would you please be share your knowledge of:

  1. Free/cheap synthesisers or instruments that evoke the eerie familiar hypnagogic sounds?
  2. Techniques/tips on how to achieving the analogue tape hazy synth sound?
  3. Free/cheap plugins and effects to use to achieve the tropes/feeling of the genre?
  4. Good free/cheap DAWs or websites to create the music in?
  5. How to mix low-quality/hazy vocal samples into the synths and drums?
  6. Any other advice/gear/tools/sites/videos/etc to creating Hauntology music?

AOTY describes the genre as:

Beginning in the 1990s and developing in the 2000s in the United Kingdom, Hauntology started as a movement of artists emulating "dead" British media and styles from the early to mid-20th century to create an eerie mystique. The movement has since expanded regionally into a genre of its own and is often seen as a related style to similarly nostalgia-focused genres like Hypnagogic Pop.

Making vaporwave without samples?

Anyone make vaporwave without sampling? I have Ableton and Arturia V collection 9. I also have a linn drum sampled(technically sampling but not in the ways I'm discussing).

I had played piano when I was younger but it was mostly classical. The "in pocket" vibe of pop/r&b is a whole different world, things don't fit cleanly on a grid. I am trying to learn by replicating parts of songs. This has helped me understand bass and drums and I hope over time will broaden the tools I can pull from.

I imagine what I'm looking for is weather channel music, elevator music, lounge music, mall music, 80'-90's pop and r&b. I love the smooth saxophone sound but I don't have a vst for that, so I wonder if I can find a synth in what I already have that can have the same effect.

What has your musical skills translated to this style of music? What would you suggest learning how to play?

question Need help recreating a specific "Empty Mall" acoustic vibe using Equalizer APO, Valhalla Supermassive and Peace GUI

Hi everyone. I’m trying to set up the audio output of my PC so that songs sounds like they're playing through the ceiling speakers of a massive, empty shopping mall atrium (think Lotte Mall West Lake Hanoi—huge, white, polished marble, completely deserted). The problem is, I can't figure out what settings are best to achieve this.

I’m using Equalizer APO with the Peace GUI and I have the Valhalla Supermassive VST loaded.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

discussion Incorporating the sound of vaporwave in wildlife documentary

I am into making wildlife videos, short clips and longer stuff. I'm new to it so not good yet. I was feeling frustrated with trying to find music for my clips, when I realized I used to mess with making music myself when I was a teenager.

I played piano as well and remember basics like chords and scales. I thought it would be fun to just make my own music for my videos. I don't like the overly cinematic stuff that's typically used in wildlife documentaries and I listen to a lot of vaporwave.

Music for video is just different, because it can't overpower the ambience and animal sounds of the scene. It needs to support, not dominate..

I think what I'm trying to do may seem pretty unusual, but I want to combine my love for vaporware with my videos in a way that makes sense. I shoot mostly in marshes and forests..

I have Ableton and Arturia V collection 9. I have an older version of omnisphere but honestly Arturia is enough so I just have not installed omnisphere. I found a linn drum sampling machine, although making beats is not something I know how to do... And the way I'm trying to make music for wildlife video does really change the purpose of it and that will not be the same as a stand alone song.

In general I think I want to learn how to play the kind of music that's used in vaporwave....

Would anyone have suggestions for someone in my situation with my goals?

Phone=Plug-in stupid typo. You think mods could edit their own titles but no

If your inbox can take a pounding, and you can attend the Livestream it's free. (And you install their installer).

Marketing aside, seems like a useful plug-in for vaporwave. I've purchased a bunch of their sample packs on sale in the past, ymmv.

Making vaporwave again after a some years. (help)

Hey everyone, I recently got back into listening to the genre and I'd like some advice. In 2019 I made some music and posted it on my channel, and this week I listened to some projects and decided to rework them again.

I'd like to know how I can achieve a sound similar to what Luxury Elite and Saint Pepsi did on their album "Late Night Delight," one of my favorite albums.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

question How to make vaporwave not sound robotic

I've started making sample-free vaporwave (more specifically slushwave). I've been using Diva for most of the instruments and I design in vital sounds when I need something, but I always have a huge problem with making it sound human, this is, is almost always ends up sounding robotic and way too simple, and it's not about the chord progressions because I try to use 80s pop chord progressions to make my melodies. I've tried strumming the chords for example but it doesn't change much, maybe it's about the synths, but I don't have storage space to download for example Asturia V, and it's not about the effects because there I know how to make it sound good, I know how to slush a track well.

Currently Free iOS Apps: Lo-Fi Tape and Mighty Synth

I'm always trying to create my music (including vaporwave sounds) on portable devices and came across these two guys:

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/lo-fi-tape/id1591581486

The developer is kindly sharing his app for free for a short while in celebration of career switch that led him to launching his own FX suite (https://bywestonfletcher.com/). There is an in-app purchase but those are extra presets. You can create and save your own.

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/mighty-synth-sampler/id6445898095

This one also has iaps but the full app is unlocked by default.

As I said, I love the idea of just making things on the go with an iphone (most android devices have a slow reaction time unfortunately). If any of you out there do this and wanna chat, trade notes. let me know! The iOS music landscape is ridiculous!
