Discussion My dumb napkin math of when Chapter 6 might come out

Upvotes

The spring mini newsletter (may 16th 2024) for ch4 update is very similar to the June 9th 2026 Ch6 update

May 16 2024 - ch4
Here's the current progress:
Cutscenes: Only a few ones left (some tough ones)! Other than that, need polish.

Battles: All the attacks are technically done, but still trying to improve the flow of the the bosses.

Overworld: Still need to create around 10 maps! And polish some others.

Gimmicks: A kind of complicated gimmick nearly has all of its iterations made. Then there's whatever needs to go in those 10 maps, and one more thing. (A gimmick is something like the teacup ride from Chapter 2.)

It's my hope that the next time I update you, a first pass of the entire Chapter 4 will already be at least halfway crushed by a steamroller! And, at least some of the team will be moved over to Chapter 5!

June 9th 2026 - ch6
Chapter 6 is developing well.
Cutscenes / NPC interactions: Making good progress.
Overworld gameplay: We've created all the basic gimmicks of the chapter. (Gimmick = climbing, puzzles, etc.) Now, we need to create a few more rooms utilizing these gimmicks.
Normal enemies & bullets: Mostly complete.
Boss & bullets: We are working on the bullets of the last battle of the chapter.

This Chapter is easier to make than the others, so the development is going quite fast. This sounds crazy, but it's not unrealistic that some staff members may start working on Chapter 7 before the end of the year.

Both gimmicks/battles are mostly complete and musing with moving on to the next chapter.
The main content 3-4 deadline was complete in sep 1st 2024
So may 16th -> sept 1st 2024 = 3 months
Translation for chapter 5 started December 19 2025 and finished in April of 2026
Which is about 4 months for localzation and testing started in April 1st and probobly finshed around may so that's 1 month for that
So June 9th + 8 months = some time in February 2027

With the new info about chapter 6 and 7 being released together. It means that they might be on a similar to the fall 2025 newsletter update for chapter 5. In which people are already working on chapter 6 bullets

Regular enemies are mostly done. One programmer is already working on the regular enemy bullet patterns of Chapter 6.

So tldr might be Feb or March 2027 release date.

game will be finished around October which + 4 months for localization will lead to a Feb release date or maybe march if testing takes a month again.

Question Is there ANY way to retry the fight with the Knight after losing?

Post image
Upvotes

I've finally got the chance to fight the Knight and am currently stuck in the fight (shocker, I know). But the thing is, after losing it is such a pain to have to close the game, get in, watch the whoooole cutscene with Tenna being disarmed over and over again, it is incredibly boring.

And I get it, if you lose the story keeps on going because Tobias the Fox wanted to the whole "the party is not strong enough to defeat this guy yet", but like, is there not anyway to retry it without closing the game? (I am playing on PS4)

Other I had a dream about what chapter 6 of Deltarune would be like

Upvotes

Last night (July 22), I had a weird dream about what the next Deltarune chapter could be like. Since the beginning of the chapter was supposedly already available this year (2026), the dream started there.

It begins in the morning with Kris and Susie deciding to tell Noelle about the DarkWorlds. She's understandably confused at first, but Susie goes into much more detail than usual. She explains that every DarkWorld is like a multidimensional connection between every universe, and whenever a new DarkWorld is created, it only reveals a small fragment of one specific universe within Deltarune's reality.

Then Catti, Jockington, and two NPCs that looked like they came out of Silksong (game) up and say they already knew what Susie was talking about.

After that... the dream completely changes for some reason and suddenly it's all about cowboys?

That's the dream I had hahaha

Discussion Undertale characters are way more evil than I remembered now that I think about it.

Upvotes

It has been a lot of years since the last time I played this game, and rethinking about the events and the characters' actions during the game now... Things were way darker than I perceived back then, so I decided to write this post and share my thoughts about each character and how evil they are.

Normal enemies: Most of them probably just attack you out of obligation since humans are hunted by law; still, it's hard to argue it justifies trying to kill a child that is not even trying to hurt you... Most of them are definitely evil.

Toriel: She let at least FIVE children go out of the Ruins knowing very well they'd have basically no chance of survival; it already started like this. She kind of tries to stop you from going outside and being killed by the monsters, but the fact that she just gives up this idea and lets you go makes the case difficult for her. She also asks you to never come back... I genuinely don't understand the reason, but I highly doubt it makes up for the possibility of letting a child die in Snowdin while she could accept them back in and offer refuge. We could argue that actually keeping them trapped in the ruins would be considered kidnapping, but in this case it'd probably be justified. I guess she's mostly irresponsible than evil, but it's still stupid.

Papyrus: It's a kind of hard case; his puzzles are actually harmless, and he's not even trying to kill you. He still hurts you, though, which would already give him jail time in real life for child assault... Like most characters anyway. Things get harder to judge after that because of Undyne; he knows very well that she wants to kill you and kind of tries to help you... Really badly, it's arguable, but maybe we could give him the benefit of the doubt this time. He's evil by real-life standards, but for the game standards, he's actually pretty innocent. More naive than evil I guess.

Undyne: Easily the WORST case in the game. I already disliked her back in my first playthrough, but reflecting now, she's actually much worse. Most enemies just give up fighting you, but she's really insistent and just keeps chasing you again and again. We could argue that she thinks all humans are bad and that explains why she wants to kill us so badly, but like I said before, it simply doesn't justify trying to kill a child who's not even trying to hurt you. It's even worse in her cutscene before her battle; she makes it very clear that she was watching us. She watches us being kind with other monsters and being completely harmless and still says that it would be better if we were dead. So besides successive murder attempts, we also have psychological abuse here. If it were a normal child instead of Frisk, this would be a hell of a traumatic experience, not something that could be solved with a simple date, as Papyrus thinks. Undyne is 100% evil, and I still despise her.

Alphys: Quite low in guiltyness, all of the "Mettaton attacks" she fabricates only fall into child assault at most since they don't actually kill you, and the last battle against Mettaton wasn't part of her plan anyway. Compared to Undyne... I genuinely don't think there's much to judge here.

Mettaton: Besides evil... I guess he might actually be a psychopath... I mean, his plan is to kill a child in live for entertainment! And to become a star on the surface? What about all the monsters stuck undergound? He doesn't even want to do something to help them? Not even Alphys? What the heck is wrong with you man?! And the fact that he stops not because of mercy but because "the monsters would have no stars left in the Underground"... No, even Undyne kind of has a redemption arc after your date with her, but Mettaton's case is absolutely stupid. 100% evil.

Asgore: Hehe... How do you even start with this guy? He was the one who created a law to kill any human who falls into the underground, INCLUDING CHILDREN. Like Toriel said before, he could pass through the barrier with one soul and get the remaining ones pacifically (in a cemetery or waiting for people to die in hospitals, I don't know), but instead he decided that it was a better choice to just... Let six children die... Evil.

Flowey/Asriel: Simple, right? A case can be made on the fact that he was unable to feel empathy while he was Flowey; personally, I don't think this justifies anything he did. But hey, that's why the game asks if you want to forgive him or not.

Sans: The most innocent one here, an absolute angel... Oh wait, he lets you kill 80% of the underground before doing something just because of the promise he made to Toriel... Damn, we almost had it this time...

Chara: Evil. The only thing she does in-game is erase the world at the end of the genocide route (with or without the player's consent). What calls my attention the most is that she implies that she was the one in control all the time; that means she could've stopped us if she could? It's hard to say exactly, but if that's the case, then it's one more thing to think about. Now, about the "non-in-game" things she does... She tried to kill the humans in her village back when she was attempting that stupid plan with Asriel. She hates humanity. And she was smiling when Asgore was sick, right? I don't remember much about this part honestly, but considering Asgore wasn't evil, that was kind of cruel on her part. Ah, and she wants our soul, which makes it hard to measure how "evil" this is because it change almost nothing in the game.

Ironically, the only monsters in this game who are ACTUALLY good people by real-life standards are probably the NPCs in Snowding, Hotland, etc. Although some people would still argue that their lack of action on defending us or trying to change the status quo still makes them evil. What do you guys think?

Discussion new discovery in sans' room?

howdy

so i was watching a playthrough of undertale pacifist, and thought the sound design of sans' room was very interesting, sort of reminded me of spaceships, and so i found a video without commentary on another channel and sent a link to my friend.

however, i noticed that the audio is totally different in that video when compared with the more recent playthrough i just watched. the wind sound is now accompanied by a beamish whooshing, and also sounds of a bell.

i couldn't find any discussion or note of this audio being changed between versions of undertale, so i believe i may have discovered something here. it could be a switch/ps5 exclusive audio change, and that's why it wasn't noticed.

either way, it's quite interesting, and i wonder if anybody else has heard the other audio and has any thoughts about it?

here is a link to both versions: https://vocaroo.com/11u4WFmpklik

the first audio is from the no commentary video from a decade ago, and the second audio is from a commentated playthrough from two months ago.

Deltarune Chapter 5 The routes in between Spoiler

Gaster (i am assuming he is creator of deltarune and first voice in goner maker) Intended Normal/Pacifist and weird route. Weird route intended cuz he bothered to make a chapter 7 side B. He made Twisted Sword craftable from Thorn ring, and pure crystal, presumably made with 5 shadow crystals. In normal route u cant get thorn ring, and in weird route u can’t get the pure crystal, because chapter 5, and thus chapter 5 secret boss and shadow crystal, (also the chapter 2 and 5 eggs skipped in weird route, maybe not attracting friend that much) are unobtainable. Gaster didnt intend for us to get twisted sword

but there is a route in between. (or routes in between, with same goal of getting twisted sword)

Aborted weird route, depending on what point it is aborted makes different routes.

aborted in chapter 2, snowgrave not used on berdly and thorn ring unequipped before or after fight makes u have thorn ring, and also capable of getting all the shadow crystals. Because gaster didnt account for this, in canon, his code for deltarune likely something like

if berdly is not snowgraved and it’s after the fight, then player on normal route. this can work as an explanation why events that didn’t halpen in weird route suddenly do have happened, like a timeline desync or something, as an examplw, the golden berdly statue event never triggered in weird route but does show up in aborted, because gaster didnt account for aborted weird route. Toby didnt forgot to remove the statue, he would have removed it in a patch by then, he deliberately left it in.

second aborted possibility, aborted in chapter 4. I don’t know how to continue with that. Maybe we have thorn ring because we didnt equip on Noelle, or only aborted without twisted sword

third, chapter 5.

kris and noelle got out of lake, noelle gaslights herself into thinking it was just a dream, and aborted weird route exclusive dialogue exists, if there is only 1 route in between and not 2 or 3, this is most likely contender for all previous reasons, plus the long jingle in chapter 4 saying not ur locked in weird route but ur locked outside pacifist, and gaster assumed that just meant in weird route.

another possibility, u get twisted sword with chapter 2, something else we dont know chapter 5, and chapter 4 only chance to abort after chapter 2.
