Accelerated diploma acceptance offer

Title: Advice for an international student considering UTS Engineering?
Hi everyone,
I’m an international student from the UAE and I’ve received an offer for the Diploma of Engineering (Accelerated) at UTS [8 months], followed by a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Mechatronic Engineering. [ 3 years]
I’m currently deciding between UTS and other universities, so I’d really appreciate hearing from current students or graduates. The reason I’m considering UTS is that it’s approved by my government and that the duration of study is shorter than both uni’s.
A few questions:
1.)how is the environment at UTS
2.)Is life in Sydney expensive as a student looking to live independently?
3.)Looking back, would you choose UTS again?

I also have offers from UNSW (starting in January) and Monash (starting this October) — what would you recommend?

I’d really appreciate any honest advice—both the positives and the negatives. Thanks in advance!

Semester Gap

I am an international student studying bachelor in civil engineering(Honours). Just finished the 1st semester of my third year recently. I have been going through some stuff in my personal life recently and would like to take a semester gap or reduced study load and take 2 courses for this semester. My questions are:

1)Will there be any problem with my visa extension in the future?

2)I still haven’t completed my 3 month(12 weeks)mandatory internship. Can I do it in the summer of 2027(I will have 1 semester left if I take the semester gap) or will it be too late then?

Special consideration for in-class test🥲

Hey guys. I have an in-class practical test (25%) on 1 September, but I’ll be in Hong Kong for my MCAT on 3 September. If I apply for Special Consideration with my flight itinerary and MCAT confirmation, is there any chance it would be approved?
Just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience or knows whether this would be considered a valid reason for Special Consideration. Thanks!

Results still withheld ?

I took an unproctored, open-book alternate exam about two weeks ago. Since we were allowed to search online and use notes, I know there shouldn't be an issue, but the long wait for results is making me anxious that something got flagged or something is wrong . Is this delay normal?

Current or former UTS iDeA Cybersecurity students – I have a few questions

Hey everyone,

I’m a Year 11 student looking at applying for the UTS iDeA Cybersecurity program next year and had a few questions for anyone who’s in it or got accepted.

  • What ATAR did you get?
  • What was the interview like? Was it behavioural, technical or both? Any tips?
  • How much IT/cyber experience did you have before applying?
  • Did you have any certs, coding projects, hackathons, homelabs, etc.?
  • Do you think projects mattered more than marks?
  • What’s the pay like and roughly how many hours do you work?
  • What sort of work do you actually do with your industry partner? Is it proper cyber work or more general IT?
  • Looking back, is the program worth it?

Would really appreciate any advice or things you wish you knew before applying. Thanks :)

[Research Study] - Sleep and Mood in Young Adults (18–30)

Hi all, we are running a study on different approaches to improving sleep and supporting mood in young adults aged 18–30.

This is a longitudinal study, meaning we follow participants over time to understand how these approaches work and to support better mental health and wellbeing for young adults into the future.

If you're 18–30 and currently experiencing difficulties with your sleep and low mood, we'd love to hear from you. To check whether you're eligible, you can complete our brief screening form here: https://redcap.sydney.edu.au/surveys/?s=TFNKCMFKC4CHA3NA

Participation is voluntary.

Approved by the University of Sydney Human Research Ethics Committee (project no. X23-0450).

Forensic Science - What's it like?

Hello hello,

I'm wanting to go into forensic science! I would love to do something in toxicology and/or crime scene investigation. Anyone know how it's like at UTS? I'm deciding between UTS and Deakin...

Is this degree highly competitive too..? Cause I don't reckon I'll get in with my Cert 4 in IT LOL

thanks

Uni 5 days a week 😵‍💫how do I make it 4 when almost every class is full?

I have uni 5 days a week with my current classes, a subject called Molecular bio has 2 classes attached in 1 slot and it’s making it harder to plan my timetable since if I select a class on Wednesday I HAVE to go to the Friday one as well, so uni on Friday for a 2 hr class and 2.5hr travel time total. So 12.5 hrs travel time each week 😭. 4 days uni would be much better but most classes are full it’s hard to change now what can I do? I have other classes on all days except Friday which has one class thanks to mol bio

Timetable issues

Two of my classes are in really bad times, and I have some commitments that make it so I cannot attend either of the times I am allocated in. But I don’t think UTS deemed my statement as important enough, and I’ve been on the waitlist a while and it dosent seem like I’m getting into the times I originally wanted. Would it be okay for me to email my professors and maybe do something regarding this issue? And one of my classes I need to take is completely full, I’ve sent an e-request but uts has to get me into one right?

Failed ASR but in final session, next steps?

I got >50% overall but <40% on the final exam. I have already enrolled in 4 subjects for Spring 2026 including my 2 capstones (these would've been my last 4), is there any way i can still graduate at the same time as i would've. What are the next steps? Can I take enroll in ASR this session and do 5 subjects?

Lecturers giving us our final marks

Hey guys, just wondering whether our lecturers are allowed to give us our marks for our final exam if they aren’t published on canvas.

I didn’t pass ASR initially and Rob sent my mark breakdown when I asked for it. I was wondering whether I could also get the breakdown for the supp exam too. Or is that not allowed by UTS?

is there any way to find out which tutor runs which tutorial? (Business)

I am trying to find out which tutor runs my REBD and economics tutorial as my friends have highly recommended me a tutor that has helped them tremendously in the subject and we all know that tutors make or break the semester.

22319 Business Analysis has anyone had any experience with private tutoring for this course?

Has anyone had any experience with private tutoring for Business Analysis?

Got a bit spooked by the string of posts about this subject lately and I'm convinced that I wouldn't be very good at it either so I'm thinking it might be worth it to work with a tutor early and get to exam prep, I can only find tutors on this site "studentvip" but it seems like the tutors there graduated a long time ago and they don't really specialise on this subject. I'm not aware of other sites yet.

Additionally I wanted to ask if anyone did well on the BA final this recent semester and what your thoughts were particularly on the final exam and overall how to handle the subject convincingly.

What I hope to do is finish the group and solo projects asap and work on the final exam early throughout the sem but I can't really find much about the actual final questions online, sometimes I've even found the practice paper for other subjects on google but for this subject there isn't much that I can find.

Law Elective Subject Availability

I was enrolled in International Commercial Transactions for next semester, but after enrolling I realised it runs as intensive 10am to 4pm sessions throughout the semester, with 50% of the grade based on attendance and in-class tutorial work. I work full-time, so there was no realistic way for me to complete it and I had to withdraw.

I went to enrol in a different law elective instead, but every single legal elective for next semester is showing as full.

Is this normal at UTS? I know the semester is about to start, but I was surprised that there wasn’t a single law elective with any available places. Do spots usually open up during the first couple of weeks as people change subjects, or is it common for every elective to reach capacity?

Getting into a full class

Hey guys whats the best way to get into a full class ive already put a heart next to it on my timetable it’s been 3 weeks no change im thinking of putting an e request bc I really don’t want a 6 pm class I’d have to take the train really late to get back home and I feel unsafe. That’s obviously not a valid reason according to UTS do I just suck it up and deal w it or can I do something? THANK YOU ❤️
