Other Advice Please -- Loneliness while Living Off Base
My husband and I have been at our current duty station for about 3 months now and I've been really struggling to find connection. For reference, he left for a training somewhat unexpectedly right after we moved here so I've been living alone most of this time. The base is quite rural so we needed to live ~30-40 minutes off base so I could have a realistic work commute (if we lived on base, it would've been 1.5 hr+ to any workplace). I'm very passionate about my career (it's the only thing keeping me sane and fulfilled right now) so we have no plans to move on base. I've been trying to connect with spouses but most of them live on base and/or have kids, so it's been hard to spend time with people consistently. I get lots of social interaction at work but it's so hard to come home alone each night. I've joined all the groups, messaged people about clubs, intramurals, etc., but everything happens on base and I wouldn't be able to make it there on time with my commute, and most of the weekend activities I've been invited to are focused on mom groups/children. Am I just making excuses for myself or is this just a rough set of circumstances?? Anyone else in a similar situation who has found a solution for this crushing loneliness? I'm generally a very extroverted person who enjoys meeting new people/a busy schedule so this is really draining me :(
