I confronted my parents about me wanting to transition Two Times now. Both of them went horribly and for a time made our relationship incredibly difficult during very delicate times.
Today a couple of things came up when discussing the rise of gang violence among teenagers in my country and she made a couple of points about parenting.
Three particularly struck me:
1- Saying no and setting boundaries is important
2- When a child commits a crime the parent should feel responsible because they raised that person
3- The isolation from the Covid outbreak stunted my development and I’m having weird thoughts I should have had discarded already.
They already made it clear that they don’t see gender dysphoria as a real thing, so they assume it’s just an immature tantrum, but they also said that it’s the equivalent of suicide, because you are killing who you’re supposed to be and because of that they see this as them failing to help me to love myself.
Also they think everyone in the world is a raging transphobes so keeping me from transitioning means saving my life in their eyes, but there are so many examples of succesfull trans people that greatly disprove this rethoric
I just can’t get behind that Line of thoughts though.
Our body is but a shell, a representation of our self, if we refuse to adapt it to who we are on the inside then we will always feel a deep sense of dossociation towards it, because that person in our mirror will never be us.
Deep down they care, I know they do, but our ideals over the body and soul are drastically different.
I want to talk to them more, but it’s a very delicate time. My grandma just lost her husband of a terrible and long illness and is now suffering from a rare form of cancer and it’s taking a lot from my mother.
My father is always struggling with his family, his sisters manipulates their mother into giving her money and he feels responsible for both of their safety after his father passed when I was very little.
This journey of mine, this strange and dangerous journey, scared them just as much as it scares me. They don’t want to lose me, and I don’t want to lose them.
I feel like I have to confront them, but I don’t know if I have the strength to do it
Hopefully these reflections of mine can help with someone else journey as well, and if it will, I hope you’ll manage to obtain the name and body that suit your soul
