hi there !! my parents just moved into this house that has been vacant for 2+ years. they don't know what kind of tree this is but it definitely has not been taken care of for a very long time. is there any chance it can be revived? i've attached some pictures of the base at the soil line (or as low as i can get because there are some very tall grass around it), pieces of the outer layer of bark that have come off, the whole tree, and a close up of the inner bark parts. most of the outer layer of bark is intact, except for the part i've shown in pictures. this tree is located in southern ontario, canada. we have not tried anything so far to revive it as a neighbour said it probably won't be revived but my mom wants to try before my dad cuts it down. any advice would be much appreciated !!

US zone 8a. There was originally a giant oak, but it came down during hurricane Helene. I have been racking my brain trying to decide what to plant here (sans rock, they will be gone soon)

I’m looking for opinions on what everyone would personally plant if it was their driveway and why.
I’ve considered everything from large fruit tree or several small ones to a large evergreen or nut tree.

My only personal requirement is that it be beneficial in someway. Either food for ourselves or food for wild life. The line is just a cable line and seems unaffected by other trees that touch it (line guys confirmed it’s safe) the tree behind it is a pecan tree that unfortunately has to come down.
I’d love to know what everyone would do! I know I can plant “whatever I want” but I’m just so indecisive.

A couple of oak seedlings, coming along nicely. Every year I plant a few acorns, and transplant them into wild areas the following fall.

Hello - this tree was cut down winter 2024/5 in a wood where I go running in the UK. I’m intrigued about the sudden change in colour between the inner and outer wood. I first thought it could be change in air quality but I don’t think this area would have been very polluted, but knowing nothing about trees I’m hoping you can help!

I've discovered a hole underneath the bark of my alder tree. Theres this sawdust coming out of it (or maybe some insect put it there). Im not sure if its getting bigger but i can stick my finger underneath the bark there. The insect in the fourth pic crawled out of there. Location: Switzerland

Is this an issue? Whats your advice?

When we bought our home 4 years ago, this large tree along our driveway was being overrun by wild grape vine. I'd had an arborist come out to look at all our trees and do some trimming, and he told me to cut the vines as high as we could, let them die on the tree, and work on pulling the roots. The vines are all dead, but the tree is looking pretty rough. I now also see the woodpeckers and flickers have been going at the trunk. I left messages with a couple local arborists to try to get someone to come take a look, but I'm not getting anyone to respond. Is this tree doomed? Is there anything we could/should be doing to help it recover, or slow down decline? 😭

I’m in Ohio and I’ve had this tree for almost a year and suddenly its leaves are turning brown way before fall has even begun. Is this normal for this species or is my tree dying?

We recently moved into our new home in Ohio, and our weeping cherry tree is not looking well. The ones in our neighborhood are full with darker green leaves, yet our tree is not thick with leaves. When we first viewed the home last year around August, I think, the tree was a show stopper and full with beautiful white flowers. I started watering it with a hose which improved some leaf growth.

I was doing online research and think the issue is with growth from the lumps/graft unions on the trunk, and I’m suppose to trim these. But then I read that weeping cherry trees should be pruned when they’re dormant in the winter. Is it really okay to leave this tree as is, until then?

So, it may not be easy to see but these are up to 5 ft long and are from ground to about 2 foot up the trunk?

from a google I need some bypass secetaurs but wondering if I can tackle a section at a time with a hedge trimmer to shorten them and then go in with the secetaurs by hand I guess??

I live in zone 7a and had this Kousa dogwood tree planted last fall. It was looking great up until about a month ago when I noticed the leaves were looking like the tree might need more water. I have been using a 20 gallon watering bag that I would fill up 1-2 times per week but the leaves still weren’t improving so I thought maybe I was over watering so I took the bag off to let it dry out a bit, a few days later it still hasn’t improved and noticed the bark near the base was peeling in some areas. There is a small fence around the tree so I don’t think an animal is to blame, anyone have any ideas?

Its leaves slowly turned brown around April, and soon all of them fell. It started growing new leaves in some spots during the summer.

Is this a Norway spruce?

We have received alot of rain this summer and my Amur cherry trees are struggling. I have pulled the mulch back further and took a pitch fork around a week ago and poked holes around the dripline. Anything else I can do? These were transplanted 4 years ago and have always been healthy. It’s clay where I live so the excessive rain has saturated the soil.

All my other trees are happy and these photos are of both Amur trees in my backyard on opposite ends of my yard roughly 90yards from each other.

We recently had our primary tree in our backyard split from a wind storm. I have been working on cutting the downed branches. I assumed I would then have a professional come in to take down the remaining vertical portions of the tree. However you can see a small branch has started to grow out of the right side of the lower trunk. Can I save this tree and see it re-grow?

I don’t remember seeing this, or at least this bump being this big last year.

They really seem to want to. With constant effort can I train them to a single lead? Or is that a fools errand and best to let them do what they want?

I have some I purchased as Allegheny and some as Juneberry (Saskatoon berry). They are plain, none were labeled as select cultivars. The Saskatoon is a more aggressive suckerer. TIA for any insight/experience you can share.

Northern Ontario, Canada: We have had a microburst come through our property. it damaged one of our group of very mature Balsam Fir trees. The tree was previously damaged by insects years ago, but seemed to rebound.

Can the top just be cut before this winter? Does the whole thing need to come down?

Our (white?) oak was struck by lightning last week. Some pics of damage for reference. Looks like most of the damage is on the top half.I saw it happen, so i know thats the cause of the damage. Should we do anything for the tree? Thoughts on survival/recovery? This is Delaware fwiw.
