The Odyssey is a good movie, not a great movie, and filming the entire thing on 70mm was a marketing stunt.

The Ringer F1 Show

I just listened to the latest episode of this podcast about the Belgium GP and I was so shocked about just how bad this show is. Truly pales in comparison to almost every other F1 podcast, why does this exist?

“Every Single Album” new Madonna episode

I just listened to the new Every Single Album episode about Madonna’s new album and it was a ROUGH listen. Nathan sounded like he didn’t want to be there. Even if the album isn’t for you, is it too much to ask for a pop music podcast to bring a little energy when talking about freakin’ Madonna???

As someone who listens to both Bandsplain and Every Single Album, I couldn’t help but laugh at how different their coverage of Madonna has been. I think Bandsplain has been a little over the top with its Madonna praise but overall I loved the Madonna series. Nathan on the other hand, could not be more dismissive and condescending.

What's your personal "Klosterman-esq" take?

First and foremost I think Klosterman is Bill's most interesting guest. I'll never skip a pod with him. I love his out of box thinking combined with seemingly outrageous predictions followed by his reasoning behind the take.

My personal Klosterman-esq take is that there's not enough delusionally motivated people these days. Everyone has had a certain level of anti-brain swellage that creates quite a mono culture way of thinking. I miss the times you'd go to someones house randomly and they've been spending the last 2 or 3 years on SOMETHING they personally think will be huge. Creative project, thesis, invention, business plan, WHATEVER. I haven't came across someone like that in a decade. The more outrageously motivated people will have the more energy a society gets. I wonder if the reason that there's a lack of those types is because people don't see enough positive hope for the future. They see dead ends and not enough solutions. Too much monoculture leads to this timeline (or so it seems).

Podcast Klosterman is a fucking moron

Did you all know that before Bill Simmons and The Rewatchables pod, the only people that rewatched movies were aspiring film makers? Bill actually invented rewatching movies for the content. Literally one of the stupidest things I’ve ever heard in my life. Do you think Chuck has special wipes for getting Bill’s shit off his nose?

Announcement Looking for a manager for our long running “Ringer Fantasy Football Show” fantasy league

Apologies if this isn’t allowed,

Many years back I started a dynasty fantasy league centered around all the managers love for the ringer fantasy football show and it’s been going strong since.

However we recently lost a member due to life circumstances and I’m now looking for a like minded individual to fill in.

I wanted to extend this invitation here as opposed to a random find a league thread because I wanted to keep the theme of the love for the show alive and well.

If interested please comment here or DM me for the details.

“I can never guess what those Jam Session gals are going to take issue with”

Jodi said this on today’s we’re obsessed and it’s such an incisive descriptor of the 2026 Jam Session podcast experience.

Nathan Hubbard and Tswift

I like the “Every Single Album” pod, but does anyone else thing that Nathan Hubbard has a low key parasocial relationship w Taylor Swift? He is such a fan boy that he can’t see thru his own bullshit. I had to turn off the latest pod about her wedding bc he would not stop interrupting Nora and telling her she was wrong. I know he is in the music business so maybe he doesn’t want to alienate himself from her, but he comes across as a tad obsessed.

Edited to add more thoughts: also annoyed at Nathan repeatedly asserting that “I’m fine/okay” with her wedding choices. Great Nate, I’m not sure Taylor (or anyone else) was looking for your validation, but thanks for providing it.

Swifties are enraged at Nora for her wedding takes lol

Nora mentioned on today’s We’re Obsessed that her DMs were getting blown up from people mad about her criticizing Taylor’s wedding castle at MSG.

i checked the Spotify comments on the latest “ever single album” episode where she dropped her takes and wow there are sooo many people ready to be offended on behalf of a billionaire who doesn’t care about you.

i get Nora can come off WASPy or snobby be come on her takes were pretty reasonable.

Podcast Adam Friedland Pod Mixing

I know there’s a fair amount of these types of posts in this sub, but I was literally just blasted into my backseat by a whistle sound near the beginning of this newest pod.

While driving, I usually listen to podcasts at volume 12 to 15 and enforced to listen to Adam‘s podcast in the mid 20s because, for whatever reason, the sound mixing is so bad. However, the rest of the podcast: the ads, the sound effects, the music, clips, are all at the same volume that other podcasts have them on. So what happens is, I can barely hear the actual host of the podcast and then randomly I can’t hear anything because I was just blasted by my speakers.

I don’t understand how a media company that puts out hundreds of podcasts can’t figure out how to make the sound work. Just trying to learn about the World Cup.

Podcast Mismatch discussion on Ja Morant Trade Market

Probably an unpopular idea here but I was listening to Verno discuss why Morant should have some trade value for a team wanting to take a swing. I figure there’s probably teams but the Grizzles would have to sweeten the pot and the Grizz are hesitant to do that.

So how about De’Aaron Fox for Ja Morant plus stuff?

For the Grizz they get a starting PG and save face by trying to sell the fact that they got something good for Ja.

The Spurs get back, perhaps, Ty Jerome and some draft capital. More importantly, even if Morant doesn’t work out, they get off Fox’s new contract. Morant will be off the books before they need to hand a bag to Harper and Castle. And meanwhile take a flier on Morant. Either way, they come out in good shape.

Mid-sentence ads

idk if this has been getting worse lately or if I’m just now noticing, but there have been a ton of ads that just play mid sentence. A particularly notable example was on the recent Rewatchables mail bag when they were talking about TNT censor dubs. They listed a couple of their favorites and then started talking about the Big Lebowski. Cut to a Vuori ad. The ad ends and Bill yells “This is what happens when you fuck a stranger in the ass!” There are other examples, including some where the ad starts mid-word, but that one really stood out to me.

Substacks + Shop My Shelf links for individuals

What do you think are the guidelines here? Thinking about two separate instances:

- Substacks recently started by Amanda Dobbins and Sean Fennessey; Sean's is paywalled

- Affiliate links on Shop My Shelf from the We're Obsessed girls (although we can't really know if the revenue goes to the gals or The Ringer, so this may not apply)

I work in a media-adjacent role and doing either of these things would violate our conflict of interest policy (again, unless the affiliate links are going to The Ringer vs Jodi and Nora). The Substacks don't appear to be explicitly linked to The Ringer, although Sean's looks like it COULD be, Amanda's is just a chatty letter. Just curious here.

If anyone else is annoyed by the ads…

I created a podcast app which skips ads automatically, it also doesn’t take any revenue away from the hosts since it ensures the ad impression is registered.

Always looking for feedback if anyone is happy to try it out.

I really enjoy We’re Obsessed but I truly do not understand the obsession, no pun intended, with Bravo/reality TV type stuff

I normally can listen to them discuss a topic I don’t know much about but I honestly think the Bravo/reality tv type stuff is so gross I hate that there’s even a market for it.

why does anyone know the names or stories of these awful toxic people
