Hey everyone,

I’m looking to buy my very first motorcycle around February. I am restricted to the European A2 license (35kW/47hp limit).

I won't be using the bike for commuting. It will be strictly a weekend toy for hitting twisty mountain roads and Alpine passes.

Here is my physical constraint: I’m 187 cm (about 6'2"). Finding a bike with a decent knee angle where I won't cramp up after a couple of hours in the saddle is crucial. I also highly value good tech (quickshifter and modern riding aids).

I plan to buy used in either case. I’ve narrowed my choices down to two options, but I'm stuck:

Option 1: Aprilia Tuono 457 (Used)
The Good: Built specifically for the A2 limit (175 kg wet). Extremely punchy and nimble for the twisties.

The Concern: It's a smaller 400cc-class chassis. Even with the upright bars, the pegs are quite high and rearset. I'm worried I'll look like a bear on a tricycle and my knees will suffer on longer weekend rides.

Option 2: Aprilia Tuono 660 Standard - Restricted to 35kW (Used)
The Good: A "full-size" motorcycle frame with actual legroom. If I shop around, I can find a used one that already has the optional IMU (Cornering ABS) and bi-directional Quickshifter installed. Plus, once I get my full A license, I can derestrict it to 95hp and keep it forever.

The Concern: It’s heavier than the 457. Also, since the engine is heavily restricted from 95hp down to 47hp, I'm worried it might feel sluggish or lack low-end punch on tight mountain hairpins compared to the purpose-built 457 engine.
Has any tall rider here started on either of these? Is the 660 too restricted/heavy for a beginner on tight hairpins, or is the 457 just too small for my height?

Im looking to get a kawasaki 1000sx or 1100sx

Im 38 years old. Wanting a sports tourer.
I currently drive a Harley davidson low rider s for my daily commute.

I only just started riding again about a month ago after not riding for 15 years.

I know that its a big bike, but i dont see many great sports tourers besides this one, with a good track record of being good bikes.

Still, i am worried if its not too big of a bike. I know my low rider s 2025 is not a small bike either, but the kawa is for sure another step up.

I would be getting this bike next spring probably so i still have a while to decide.

What are your thoughts/alternatives?

Hey all! I’ve been riding for about 7 months now on a Honda rebel 300, and it’s been awesome so far BUT I have learned I am far too tall for that bike and it’s started to feel more and more cramped ( 5’10” with a 32” inseam). Im also super limited on what roads I can take because of the lack of power.

One of the reasons I got into motorcycles is because I missed working with my hands, as I swapped career paths and thought this would be a good to work with my hands again. Now i’m looking for a new bike that fits my body better and that I can do most, if not all, of the maintenance on without it needing constant work.

I had landed on a Suzuki DR650, but now I’m realizing that I more or less latched onto that bike and didn’t really consider anything else. Are there any other bikes that could work for what I want?

Hello I’m looking into a real cheap bike for my gf , she’s very small and never rode a bike before but she wants to come out biking with me and my mates. What bike can I get her all my bikes are to high for her any suggestions

I want a motorcycle that's under $3.5k, preferably automatic, but I'm cool with something like Honda's eclutch (I just like riding with one hand sometimes). I'm cool with used btw. Thanks!

Edit: I have a honda Navi right now, but i want something with more power and can sustain at least 65mph.

First real bike. Rode some dirt bikes as a young kid less than 20 times though. Was getting back into it with a 70’s 2t Yamaha 175 but I can’t get her running again. Want something to ride since I have something to wrench. Looking at the nx500 as kind of a buy once cry once do it all bike. Not a longtime rider so don’t see myself craving speed or power for a long time if ever, not a super adrenaline junkie type. Imagining some light weekend riding, mostly staying off highways, maybe a camping trip, some off roading at our family farm and commuting around 25 mins one way to work and back. Tell me why I’m wrong because I likely am.

Hello! I'm looking into purchasing either a 2018 Triumph Street Triple RS or a 2019 Street Triple R.

RS - 9500kms, SC Project exhaust, private sale but unable to view in-person. Would definitely get a PPI done and seems to be well-maintained, owned by a responsible owner.

R - 4700kms, low ride height variant, dealer sale.

Curious what people's thoughts are on this decision? The bike probably wouldn't see much track use (if any) but definitely some spirited driving in the twisties. It would also be used for a short 15-20min commute and likely see a bit of rain over its lifetime. In general, is this a good bike for the purpose or should I be looking elsewhere?

Some time ago, when I was 26, I posted here wondering if the Thruxton RS was too ambitious for a beginner rider. I received a lot of helpful advice from this subreddit but ultimately never got my license or bought the bike.

I’m turning 29 this year and finally revisiting my childhood dream of riding a motorcycle; I’ll be taking lessons this September.

I’ve always loved cafe racers, especially the Thruxton. I’m aware cafe racers aren’t the most comfortable bikes, but I’m willing to sacrifice a bit of comfort if it means I get to ride one. I’d mostly be riding locally on city streets short distances to cafes or to visit friends, not making long trips. I don’t have much interest in riding any other style of bike.

Triumph has now discontinued the Thruxton RS (which would’ve had too much power for me anyways) and replaced it with the smaller Thruxton 400 around my birthday in 2025. The 400 isn’t as nice, but it’s less powerful (probably more suited to a beginner) and less expensive (especially in the event of a drop or fall).

Would the Thruxton 400 be a good bike for a beginner like me? Thanks.

Hey everyone I've recently passed my msf course and gotten my M1 DL. I've spent some time researching good beginner naked bikes and I'd like to hear more opinions on 4 bikes I'm intrested in but cant decide which one is the right one to get.

I'm currently staying in SoCal and my budget would be about $7k. Im primarily looking for a model year 2020 and newer. I'll list them in order of displacement and some pros/cons i've read about. I'm primarily looking for a used variant but from shopping around the new bikes are almost all in the same price range as the used bike so I'm open to either.

• Honda CB300R: This was the bike I originally had my sights set on primarily because i really liked the way it looked and I have a Honda Powersports dealer near my house. Its also on the cheaper side of bikes on this list so I think this was a good starting point. The cons I've read about and some advice I got from another rider is that I'll likely get bored of this bike sooner rather than later. I've also read it can struggle at highway speeds which could be a problem as I plan to use this as a commuter.

• Husqvarna Svartpilen 401: I've seen some talk about this bike being a great beginner bike as well, i enjoy the unique aesthetic of this bike and the larger displacement. Some of the cons I've heard about are people running into electrical issue and random stalling as well. I've also heard that KTM is going through some troubles and that this may effect future support of the brand as well.

• Triumph Speed/Scrambler 400 I really love the way these motorcycles look much like the CB300R they look amazing and arent too much more expensive than the previous two options I talked about. The biggest issue I have with it is from the build quality of the bikes themselves need lots of maintenance and stalling issues requiring a ECU update, and also mushy/bad feeling front brakes.

• Suzuki SV650: This is a bike I see recommened here all the time as the best beginner naked bike, looks great wont get bored of it, great handling, reliability, aftermarket mods, the list goes on. The only real issue I have with the bike are the relatively high price for it (I've been looking to get this used if I decide to pull the trigger), and the current colorways available ( i dont like the red/blue wheels but there are black versions available so not really a big deal). The biggest issue I have with the bike is that it maybe 'too much' bike for a beginner to handle, I've read lots of people starting with this bike so it likely isnt too bad but I worry that I maybe getting more than i can handle and that it wont be as forgiving as the previous motorcycles I've mentioned.

All in all I'd like to get one of these four and I'd appreciate any advice or opinions on any of these bikes or even recommendations for other naked motorcycles I didnt list here either. Thanks in advanced!

Hi, I've come into some cash and looking to buy a bike 10k or under. Open to anything. I currently have

2004 custom chopper with 117 motor

1983 harley davidson fxr shovelhead

2009 bmw r1200gs with 80k miles

Part of me says replace the bmw with like a 2017 but I love the bike and I just repaired the shaft drive. I'm open to anything even a duplicate of what I have. It's a sickness when you start stockpiling bikes!

Hey all, I'm looking for a bike for college (uofm) to commute with and have fun in, through my search I found the Suzuki gsx 8r, r7 (maybe, love look of SuperSports but might not be practical) , and the ninja 650, I'm a much taller guy at 6'4 180 lean, for the winter I have an accord that can tow a bike trailer when necessary, and my parents garage for the bike in the winter, gonna go used to try and find something around 7-8.5k let me know your thoughts!

I am looking for a motorcycle that can do daily driving, touring and be fun on some twisties.

I am stuck between the Honda Hornet 750 and the Triumph Tiger Sport 660.

I welcome all recommend motorcycles. In the driving school I have been on a YBR250, a Rebel 500 and a Z650. And I can tell that I don't get along with the rebel but I like the feel of the YBR250 and Z650.

New rider looking for a 125cc bike for sporadic use around the city and I’m torn between the Benelli BN125 and the Honda CB125F.
I understand the Honda would be the better pick because of its reliability and overall quality but I don’t find it that good looking, while I really enjoy the aesthetic of the Benelli.

Is it stupid to make a choice based on looks?

I’m not sure if I’ll keep it for a long time, it’s my first bike and I’m looking to understand if it’s something I’ll want to do in the long run (with 2 kids I’m not sure how many opportunities I’ll have to actually stick with it 🙄).

Also, does it make sense to buy it new (whichever model I end up choosing)? The difference in my country is usually around 200-400€ between second hand or new.

Coming from a cheap chinese 125cc and I love both of these bikes but i just can't decide which one to get.

The kawi is way cheaper and already has 35kw for A2 license out of the factory, reliable and just looks sick imo.

The moto guzzi is more than 35kw so i would have to restrict it (or fake restrict it) and i could just keep it forever even when i have A license later + shaft drive + torque and little bit more offroad capable.

The kawi is a logical choice but the guzzi is a lifestyle. (don't focus on the price)

I have a decent down payment for my second bike but I’m torn between the z900 or the mt09. My commute is longer around 35-45 mins on the highway and then some city riding.

The z900 is cheaper here where I live and the mt09 is a bit more expensive (just for context)

I have about 1 and a couple of months worth of riding experiences and for fun I usually ride in the backroads.

Passed my MSF course this weekend and looking to buy my first bike. I’m 5’10” about 140lb with relatively long legs. I’m based in Southern California, outside of LA (it’s more suburban) and my commute is only about 10-15minutes each way, taking local roads. For now, I don’t see myself riding on the freeway, though some of the local roads go up to 50mph, if that matters.

I’ve seen a lot of people suggest a Rebel 300/500. From what I’ve seen the reviews are good and I also like the styling. I’ve also seen that the new 300 comes with E-clutch, which is tempting me. However, I’ve seen a lot of reviews on YouTube saying it’s better to get the 500, because most people outgrow the 300 really quickly.

I’m open to any other suggestions!

My K1200s is my favorite bike. It’s high mileage, and I’ll be moving on from it soon before the maintenance makes it totaled. I have a budget around but hopefully less than $20k, but I don’t really love what’s on the market new. I want the specs of a S1000XR, but I really cannot get myself to like the look of it. The beak front end is a bother. Does anyone have a suggestion on a sport tourer for a 6’4” experienced rider who enjoys quick 0-60s, long highway miles, large top speed, and plenty of city traffic? I realize it’s a wide box. Am I asking for an FJR1300? I wish they were lighter.

EDIT: I certainly appreciate the help, but I am not in the market for an adventure upright bike.

I would like to change my Honda ADV 350 for a bigger bike, I use it mostly on the city, in my country we can lane split and with my bike I can do it easly.

I tried to go out on the highway with my current bike but it was kind of scary as most truck push air towards me and move me a little bit. Also in slow to mid speeds I could overtake fine. But agains a car over 100km/h it was imposible. So that is why I’m not using it a lot (better to say never) on the highway.

I would like to use a bike on my daily comute and to use it when ever I want to go out in the highway safetly

My options to change are the Honda NX500 e-clutch, Honda Transalp 750 e-clutch and the Suzuki V-Storm 650. I’m going to try the TA. And check if it makes me feel more safe on the highway and is capeble to daily comute because I appreciate my bike to be capable of lane splitting

Also I would like to know if is safe to change from a 350 to a 750 or a 650. I have to say I’m really a chill rider that likes to live and not be a daredevil

I can buy all of the bikes the problem that I have is I do not want to spend money on something that is way to much more that I can no use easly on my daily commute or spend money on something that will feel the same as my adv 350

​A while ago, I posted here asking about getting an enduro/dual-sport. Fast forward two months: I visited a larger dealership (KTM / Piaggio / Ducati) during an open day, and my plans shifted quite a bit:

​KTM 390 Adventure / Enduro – Was aiming for this due to the price, but the single-cylinder power delivery wasn't really my thing.

​KTM 690 Enduro – Still too much single-cylinder vibration, plus a high price tag.

​Adventure bikes (Tuareg 660 / KTM 890) – Seeing them in person, they just felt way too massive for me.

​Aprilia RS 457 – Took it for a test ride. Honestly a great surprise and good value, but I felt I’d outgrow the power pretty quickly.

​That's when I sat on the Aprilia Tuono 660 (unfortunately, they didn't have a demo unit available for a test ride). I’ve always disliked sports bikes, but the Tuono feels like the complete opposite: wide handlebars, lightweight, comfortable riding position, and useful wind protection despite technically being a naked bike.

​I'm aiming to buy a 3–4 year old used model. However, I noticed a couple of things and have a few questions for you:

​4-year-old units seem to go for around 60% of the brand-new. What drives such a steep drop in value?

​Some listings stay up for a really long time. Is this bike expensive to service, prone to reliability issues, or is it just a matter of people being hesitant about Italian bikes compared to Japanese ones?

I am 6ft1inch 27 M. Looking to buy bike. I used to ride bikes when I was 18/19 . Now I am in Mumbai so I want a bike that would feel good in traffic. My office is approximately 1 hour away from my place. I was thinking of getting Hunter. But I have heard that the bike would feel small for me . I am also not skinny at all. Should I go for hunter or go for classic 350. Please give your input as I want bike ASAP. Budget 2.0-2.5 lacs
