Fumoto valve ftw

Best decision was getting one of these things. Just changed my oil in a white t-shirt real quick while kids were brushing their teeth.

Heard people say to put a stopper on to prevent drips so I used what I had on hand.

['16 OB] Upgrading Ent System

I think I'm ready to just bite the bullet on upgrading this to the latest variant. I was trying to see if it'd ever go on sale, but it's been a static $900 since I first added it to the wishlist. I'm just looking to see if there's anything else I need to get to go with it. It already has a maestro device that it's connected to, so I'm guessing that's why it talks to the steering wheel, rear camera, etc. It does Not seem to talk to the other sensors of the car, however, as I can't get any dash data or even tire pressure (presuming that requires special valves).

Once that's settled, I'm not exactly happy with what is likely the OEM rear camera, so I was wondering what it would take to do a 'simple' swap. IE: mount a new camera exactly where the original one is. I'd rather not attach it anywhere else (IE: License plate).

That's about as far as I can think of right now. Feel free to bring up things I may not know about.

Best way to get funky smell out?

Hi everybody!

Just bought a lovely 2022 Subaru outback limited yesterday. Love it a lot, my only gripe is there’s a really funky sweat/BO smell whenever I get inside. The smell was subtle on the test drive, but got much worse after the dealership sent it to “detail”.

This doesn’t go away after driving, doesn’t change if I use the A/C (already replaced the cabin air filter), have tried to air it out as much as possible. Any tips to get this horrid stench out? Thinking about re-wiping down the seats and surfaces, maybe their detail team used an old towel or something? Would also appreciate recs on what to use on the limited seats (heated but not ventilated)

2026 Limited River Rock

Was debating on getting a brand new 2026 Outback limited in river rock. Dealer near me has me at 37,700 msrp and 41k OTD.

Is this a good deal or should I ask for a bit more?

I have a 2021 Outback and I noticed water or rust spots in the back seat across the liner. I dont have a sun roof so I'm wondering what would have caused it. I have no clue after googling and I dont want more rust or water to continue and ruin the car. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Driver monitoring system vs Maui Jim’s Polarized Plus2

Upvotes

This is so specific but I recently replaced my polarized RayBans with a pair of Maui Jims with the PolarizedPlus2 lenses (polarized and color enhancing similar to Vortex lenses or other golf brands).

My driver monitoring system is not a fan and disables 30 seconds after putting them on. I’ve tested it by swapping out with a pair of Vortex, my old Raybans, polarized Tory Burch, etc.

I have redone my facial recognition for both my bare face and sunglasses face (I have two users registered because it never could tell me with sunglasses on anyway) but it still does it.

I know it’s super specific but anyone ever have this happen with a particular pair of lenses? All I can think is they must give off a different reflection but again the Vortex has similar tech and they don’t do it to me.

Link to glasses.

When do I NEED to replace my head gaskets?

I have a 2009 Outback 2.5i with the H4, non-turbo with 160K miles on it. The head gaskets have probably been blown since I bought the thing at 117k miles. There has always been oil on the bottom of the oil filter when I go to replace.

I check the oil level regularly and really don't have to top it off that much between my regular 5K mile change intervals.

I was replacing my catalytic converter this weekend and was able to confirm drop of oil forming on the bottom side of the engine where the head meets the block.

The engine oil is always clean, no forbidden milk shake, no overheating. SO my question is: How risky is it to keep operating like this. It is my daily driver, we take it on road trips, etc. Is there a high risk of this external head gasket leak turning into an internal one? Looking for a gut check from those with anecdotal evidence. I've love this car and have put quite a bit of money and sweat equity this year with a timing belt kit, rear wheel bearings and now OEM cat. Would love to give myself a little more time to save up for a cherry picker (or potentially professional) to replace the head gaskets.

Better USB-C aftermarket charger for a 2024 Wilderness Outback?

I have a 2024 Subaru Outback Wilderness. For whatever reason, my Samsung Galaxy 24+ cellphone and the USB-C charger in it are not compatible, and the USB-A charges slower than the phone discharges.

I have an accessory USB-C hardwired port in my 2nd Gen Tacoma (old school). Does a similar option exist for my Outback that isn't a total hack, or am I down to a charge bank stuck some where in the car?

TIA, Sid
