Question/Advice Where do I put this little black piece inside my 2018 Toyota Corolla key?

I dropped my car key this morning. I dropped my same car key a few years ago and had put the key back together but it didnt start my engine. Apparently theres this chip thing thats needed as well and I guess i had lost it at the time.

So yeah, it happened again just now. This time i think i picked up everything. Ive been googling and I think that chip/transponder what this little black piece is. Im trying to find a diagram online on where to put this damn thing and I cant find any diagram online.

I assume its in that little hole there but im not sure, theres no electrical component connection there or anything. Would it matter what side I orient it in?

Please let me know! I'd love to not be stranded at work today.

Car rust condition

Hi everyone,

Recently bought a Honda Civic EK hatch and noticed a few spots that I'm unsure about. I've attached some photos.
I can see a couple of paint chips on the rear wheel arch and what looks like a small amount of surface rust around the door jamb seam.

One thing I'm particularly unsure about is the area near the top of the hatch opening/trunk jamb (in the second and third photos). It has a brownish line on both sides of the car, so I'm wondering if that's actually rust or if it's just seam sealer, factory adhesive, or something that's meant to look like that.

Does that area look normal for an EK, or is it the start of rust?

Also, based on these photos:
-Would you consider this just minor surface rust?

-Is it something that should be repaired sooner rather than later?

-Roughly what would a professional repair cost if its required?

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Question/Advice How do I securely tie luggage to this luggage rack?

Can anyone explain the best way to securely tie luggage to this luggage rack?

I only found one short YouTube video that was explicitly about tying luggage to a rack like this, and I tried following the advice about double-looping the straps, but the suitcase still has some slack in it.

I want to learn how to secure luggage to this rack properly, but I’m short on time and keep running into a bunch of unrelated roof rack videos instead. I’m moving soon, so I’m trying to figure this out quickly.

What is the correct way to strap luggage down so it stays tight and does not shift around?

I used two cam buckle straps attached together to run lengthwise, and another two attached together to run across the other direction.

Just to clarify, the suitcase in the picture is not the one I’ll actually be putting on the rack. The one I plan to use is a hard-shell, medium-size checked bag.

Question/Advice Can you temporarily use rope in place of a seatbelt?

I need it for just one or two 20min rides, because I'll be driving my friends home after a party, and one of my seatbelts got chewed apart by my fuckass cat, Burt. If I can't use rope, is there a way to use something else, so I don't get a fine for driving someone without a seatbelt?

Tire valve has disappeared

My car (2010 Sonata) has been pulling left for a little bit so I finally got out to check the tire pressures manually (the warning light on the dash has not been on though) and discovered that the front right tire valve has disappeared. Rear tire for comparison. No idea where the valve is, except I assume behind the rim somewhere or fallen out, but there's no hole in the tire where it should be. The tire is about 2 years old and I know it was there a few months ago. The tire isn't obviously flat and as noted above the car is pulling the opposite direction from expected for a low/flat. How much of an issue is this (like, stop driving immediately vs get it fixed next time it's in the shop), and is it a quick self-repair or does it need to go in to a shop?

Image/Video Update: Bought a 2017 Tacoma - more rust than realized. Am I pwned?

Asked this question yesterday - appreciate everyone who commented.

After posting yesterday, I brought my used Tacoma to a local trusted mechanic, who graciously put the car on a lift and walked me through the rust situation.

TLDR: Not pwned

His take: I bought a good truck, no concern about the frame frame if I take care of the scale and treat it yearly going forward

He hit it with screwdrivers and hammers - took a light to the engine (and actually found an oil leak in the engine which - and I thought this was interesting - he doesn’t always mind if it’s small bc it coincidentally prevents rust).

The previous owners used some kind of silicone “goop” (his words) on the frame to prevent rust, but he said it wouldn’t be his approach bc it traps moisture in.

His takeaway is all Toyotas look like this and will run for a long time. Feeling good about my purchase - strongly recommend others find a mechanic willing to do this! Lucked out with mine

Hi All,

I am slightly confused as to what the terminal at the front is. (This car is an audi tt 2015 petrol)

I understand that the battery is in the back (second picture) but I also see something that looks like a positive and negative terminal in the front (first picture). Can you let me know what it is please? Thank you

Question/Advice Car alignment question: Should I be concerned?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I took my car to get an alignment after getting all new tires because my old tires were worn out from the inner side. From what I read online, everything needs to be green. Should I take it back?

This is my second alignment. Back when I did my first alignment after a year of having the car, the car was slightly shifting left while drive, not straight. So I took it for its first alignment. Once I got the report everything was green, however I still felt like my car was shifting left a little bit but I didn’t think much of it.

Now recently when I did my oil change and a tire rotation for the first time (fyi I previously didn’t know I had to rotate my tires each time I do an oil change), it was brought to my attention that the inner side of all 4 tired was worn out. So I bought 4 new tires and proceeded to get an alignment. The picture posted is the report I got recently. Completely different from the first alignment where everything was green.

At the moment I feel like the car is driving straight, I haven’t driven the car a lot yet to confirm but I’m worried I’ll run into same issue of my tires wearing out unevenly. Tires are not cheap🤧. Please let me know if I should be concerned and take it back.

Question/Advice Questions about titles from used car dealers in Georgia

I am looking at a car at a very small used car dealership in Georgia tomorrow. They seem relatively on the up and up from what little I can glean about them. However, the car has come from Florida and it seems that no Georgia title has been issued yet. Potentially bought at auction or swapped with some other dealership?

I do not fully understand who all is supposed to have a title available to view. Some people say they will have a title on site that is signed on particular spots for dealerships, then they will have a clean one mailed to me. Others say they may not have received it at all yet. In that scenario, what alternatives do I have to confirm current status of the vehicle? Nothing on the government vin checks report anything suspicious, but is there any chance with delayed reporting that I buy this vehicle and it gets reported as salveage or something?

Edit: The car was listed for sale in Georgia on 7/09, per Florida records the paper title was printed on 7/13. Would this likely be the last dealer printing a copy to send to the new dealership?
