This was only 4 days after hitting a new PR on a deadlift bar at 755, and then failing 800 twice. Really happy with how this moved given the fatigue.

Will rack pulls help my deadlift?

Will rack pulls help my deadlift go up? These were some controlled rack pulls from a few inches higher than a traditional deadlift.

Tied with 2 other guys for biggest deadlift of the day. I attempted 815 after this but couldn’t get it off the ground. I think fear held me back on that one…

Paid forum/discord for strongman advice?

It's popular in the bodybuilding space for pros to have forums or a paid discord server that they participate in and give advice on all topics like training, nutrition, supplements, etc.

Do any strongman athletes have something similar?

Thanks in advance!

225 Axle PR

Posted a video last week of a 205 axle double that was 1 of 5 sets at that weight and the best pressing session I’ve had after dealing with a nagging shoulder injury for almost a year. This week I planned to hit 215 for 3 singles, which is the top weight in a ladder I have coming up in October, just to see how it felt before writing up my comp prep programming. After 2 singles I wanted to go off program and send it and go for a pr. My old pr was 220 almost 2 years ago and I did it mixed grip on the clean and I was also about 10 lbs heavier at the time. So I loaded up 225 and got it double overhand. I think I have a little more in the tank on the press, but would maybe need to switch it up to mixed grip for the clean. Super happy to finally be progressing on pressing again.

You ever have a hobby that has no connection to physical activity but oddly enough helped you in a strongman event?

I Speedrun Sonic games and honestly I can review my moving event footage pretty well and figure out where I screwed up. Just like in my time attack footage haha

How to get better at kegs?

Hi, I’m training for a max keg carry and load over bar. The keg will be a couple metres away from the bar. The keg in my gym has a smooth base, making it impossible to grip. There are sandbags and atlas stones in the gym, should I use that instead?

Also, I’ve been working on high pulls and zerchers, do these carry over? Thanks

Your top 10 best/most valuable non-event exercises?

Basically "if you could only do these 10 + events". Here's my list:

  1. Deadlift

  2. Front squat

  3. Push press

  4. Clean

  5. Row

  6. Farmer's carry (technically an event, but imo so fundamental it should be a staple strongman or not)

  7. Lunges

  8. Strict overhead press

  9. Pull ups

  10. Dips (last two are my favorite combo for upper body volume)
