Hello, I have a particular setup where my PC is on a different floor and too far away to directly connect via bluetooth or the puck at the pc. I have an HDMI over LAN extender with an integrated USB hub. When I first connected the puck out of the Box Everything was working perfectly. Then Steam prompted me to update the firmware of the puck and controller. Since then the puck is not recognized anymore when connecting through the hub. It works perfectly fine when I connect it directly to the computer. However I need to use the hub as there is no other way for me to reach the computer and play on my TV. All my other devices work without any problems through that hub (wireless headsets, keyboards, mouse, 8bitdo controller dongle). My own investigation leads to the puck requesting too much power when plugged in and the OS is therefore ignoring it. I tried it on Windows 11 and on Linux and both have the same problem. Does anybody know if I can downgrade the firmware and/or if there is a way to control the power the puck is pulling? I suspect that because the puck can connect to up to 4 steam controllers it is trying to reserve that bandwith which is too much for my hub. If I connect 8bitdo controller dongles for example the max number the hub is able to support is two (although it has 4 usb ports). If I connect the Steam Controller directly with a USB cable to the hub it works. But of course I want to use it wireless.

When I first contacted steam they said I should try these steps and these are the results, i will not upload the screenshots but they show what i described:

1. Shut down the computer and disconnect any unnecessary USB devices, leaving only your keyboard and mouse connected. Do not reconnect the Puck yet.
2. DONE

2 Restart the computer.
DONE

1. Once startup is complete, connect the Steam Controller Puck directly to the system using a USB3 port if one is available. Do not use hubs or adapters during this test.
   WORKS WHEN DIRECTLY CONNECTED TO PC

2. Note any Windows USB notifications or connection sounds that occur when the puck is connected.
   Standard USB Connection Sound followed by Standard unplugging USB Sound when connecting it to USB 3.0 directly to the PC on Windows

3. Open Steam and navigate to Settings > Controller and take a screenshot of what you see there.
   Puck is shown. See Screenshot "steamcontroller1"

4. Place the Controller onto the Puck and note the LED behavior.
   orange glowing like it is charging. Picking it up it the LED is white and works perfectly. It is recognized in Steam. Trackpads also working. To Control mouse. See screenshot "steamcontroller2"

Now the same steps but using the hub. No other devices connected through the hub:

1. Shut down the computer and disconnect any unnecessary USB devices, leaving only your keyboard and mouse connected. Do not reconnect the Puck yet.
2. DONE

   Same as when connected directly orange glow charging. Picking it up Nothing happens. If I press the steam button it connects to the puck an has a constant White LED. The Trackpads vibrate as usual when using them but the System does not recognize the puck and therefore does not recognize Controller Inputs.

Since it worked before updating I hope there is a workaround.

I was having an issue on my account that kept me from buying the Steam Machine I got a reservation for, and Steam not only fixed that but they renewed my reservation! I have a Steam Machine 2TB w/ Controller on the way!

I got a reservation for SM 512gb with a controller.
After learning more about the SM I don’t really want the console as I already have a better PC, but I still want the controller.
Will I get flack if I only second hand sell the console and keep the controller?
I will not answer any offers made through Reddit.

You're trying to tell me that for the price that we were all slack-jawed at, of the new hiked-up PS5 Pro that everyone criticized, you're going to sell me a pc, which is totally not supposed to be a console at all, the size of my graphics card if you squish it a bit! And you're going to sell it to me for only 300 bucks less than my pc at its highest-end model price?! The PS5 Pro probably outperforms you, and you're going to sell it to me at the hiked-up price of that?

Bro....I know Valve has the infinite money glitch, I understand that, so why can't you boys eat a few hundred bucks per unit?! You can't compete with consoles, which this totally isn't, by the way, totally not a console, when you market it as costing double to nearly triple what the Switch 2 costs, which everyone said costs too much. And then we went out and bought, but another story for another time.

i really want to get the steam controller but i don't know how

My Steam Deck uses the official Valve dock and has a wired connection. 4k looks great while streamed. I'm wondering if it's worth getting a Steam Machine? The only scenario I can think of is when I'm visiting friends or family and I need more portable power that the Steam Deck cannot offer. (4k 60fps remote streaming is basically impossible). Thoughts?

While Valve promised "early 2026", it seems that everyone has forgot about Valve Time.

This track record shows, that we probably won't get new hardware anytime soon. most likely - by eoy.
