I have been looking at beach driving in/around St. Augustine for an upcoming trip, and I am wondering if there are any 4x4 beaches with relaxed rules like you would find in the Outer Banks. From what I see online, there are strict driving lanes, parking away from the water, and very enforced speed limits. Some beaches don't even need 4x4, which kind of takes the fun out of driving on the beach.

This is going to sound like a complete schizo post, but.
I’m on the side of the building at my job tonight and a dude on a scooter pulls up.
I’m kinda sketched out because I’m not in an area where a lot of people pass by at night and I am alone. So the dude starts asking me where the police department is and I’m trying to explain to him how to get to it, but he’s just passing by the area, so he doesn’t really get my directions very well.

Anyways, the dude starts explaining to me that a drone is following him and shooting pellets or BBs at him, and it almost made him crash. He then proceeds to point to what I immediately thought was a star. So I try telling the dude it’s a star, and at this point I’m a little freaked because I’m alone and this dude seems to be tweaking out on me. I mean, who the hell comes up to someone at night pointing at a star saying it’s following you and shooting at you. But the dude sounds completely calm, and seems so too. Doesn’t seem to be on drugs or having a mental episode.

So he leaves and I continue working, but then I realize that this is a bright ass star, no other star in the sky is nearly as bright as this one he pointed too. I looked back at it and I could swear it was in a different spot.

By 10:20 it ducks behind a tree. No way it could’ve been a star at this point, it definitely moved.
Weird ass situation but it’s worth asking because it was very strange to witness, and drones with airsoft guns hooked up to them DO exist, if someone’s really messing with people on the road it could really hurt someone.

I searched the group and most of the posts I saw were from years ago.

Hi all! My partner and I are from the Midwest and took a trip to St. Augustine several years ago when we were still college students with no money. We were only able to stay 4 nights, but we fell in love with the area around Crescent Beach/Butler Beach. We’ve been back a few times and have visited downtown & the fort area.

This year we’re heading back and staying 11 nights (finally!). What should we plan to do while we’re around now that we have some time? We definitely prefer exploring on our own to structured activities but are open to anything cool. We’re also willing to travel a bit since we will be driving. Other beaches, parks, and historical sites would be awesome. All suggestions welcome! ❤️

Thinking of traveling around new years from Charlotte to St. Augustine for a mini vacation. How is Nights of Lights? Worth the traffic and the drive? We love St. Augustine and have never been around the holiday, but I don’t want to come if the crowd is going to be miserable.

Hi, I posted here in March when I moved. What good areas are in the town and or around where I can meet friends. I’m 23F and moved here from the Boston area (didn’t have a choice) and I really really really hate going out by myself, especially as a female. I would love to know safe and friendly spaces I can meet people. I don’t know anyone here- the only people I talk to are my parents and it’s getting to the point where I am super fucking depressed because I don’t know anyone and have only been conversing in person with them for 5 months. I’ve never experienced this before? At least when you move when you’re younger you meet people through school or sports but now that I’m an adult it’s super upsetting. I don’t know where to go, I don’t know how to meet people. Any advice and recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Have you noticed all the nondescript black poles appearing along roadways? They have solar panels and cameras, always recording and tracking the public.

The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office operates over 160 Flock Safety automated license plate readers across the county. These solar-powered cameras are placed on public rights-of-way, major roads and at entrances to private communities.
