Okay so I’ve struggled with acne on and off since I was 12. I never had perfect skin, but I had a few periods of time where my skin would really clear up and stay that way for a while. However in the end, the acne would always come back like in pics 1 and 2. Only my cheeks, never anywhere else.
It would be huge, deep, solid under the skin pimples that I would stupidly pop and they would bleed HEAVILY for days on end and I’d end up with super dark scarring that stayed for ages.
My routine this entire time was the same.
Here’s where I’m really stupid. My skin isn’t that sensitive, I’m not very dry or oily, no combo skin, I’m just acne prone. So I was using a whole bunch of extremely harsh, abrasive, heavy, oily products and because my skin wasn’t too bad a lot of the time, I thought I was fine and that my skin just prefers the harsher stuff.
Because I’d tried the cerave and la roche posay and benzoyl all the stuff they tell you to try for acne, and none of it worked.
So I’d just deal with the few months of clear skin and then the rest of the year with huge pimples and painful skin for YEARS.
About 3 weeks ago I changed to a Korean cleanser for the first time in years. My skin got quite a bit better. I then bought a Korean kojic acid toner because I’d been eyeing it up for my scarring. My skin liked that too.
I stopped using half the products that I use on my face about 3 days ago, my skin is the best it’s been in YEARS. The last 2 pics are from today. Some texture and scarring here and there, but nothing major.
Mornings were and still are just micellar water, moisturiser, Vaseline on lips and sunscreen. Here’s what I was using every night on my face:
Newtons Labs T Zone pore clearing facial wash - do NOT use this. So abrasive and harsh and terrible. It’s actually more suited to be a shampoo than a face wash, which is horrifying and I can’t belive I was rubbing that on my face for 4 years.
Medicube kojic acid toner (only for a little while, only got it recently)
The Ordinary 1% Retinol
Nivea micellar water
Aveeno moisturiser
Bio oil
Vaseline
Now my new routine is -
Pyunkang Yul low PH deep cleansing foam
Medicube kojic acid toner
Micellar water
Aveeno moisturiser (looking to get a different Korean one)
Vaseline
My skin was suffering for so long. I just had to cut half of it out.
