Question - Buying a sitar I had a conversation with the eBay seller

Tell me what you think?

I checked that the images weren't the same as in the post.

And I know you recommend not buying from there, but it's the most affordable option for me because it would mean three months' minimum wage in Mexico, and I'm studying musical composition at a private school and I dream of owning a sitar. Besides, I feel like $600 is a good price, don't you think?

They have a YouTube video showing one of their sitars, although it's not the one in the video, it can give you an idea of the one they're selling me.

Question - Sitar repair/maintenance Weird Damage

Thumbnail

I’ve had my sitar for about two months now and when it arrived it had this weird opening on it. I emailed the people I bought it from and they said they would send me a video on how to fix it but have yet to do so. I try not to put pressure on it, but to just see it isn’t flexible and hasn’t gotten worse since I’ve had it.

Any advice?

Question/Advice How do you create this clink sound?

Hi! I was just listening to this recording from Ustad Halim Jaffer Khan and came across this sound that I had never heard on the sitar. How is he doing it? It sounds like he is plucking the strings beyond the bridge or something.

Question - Sitar repair/maintenance Is this normal for a vilayat khaani (or any) sitar to do?

I recently sent it to get the bend of the Sitar repaired. After the band is removed it's exactly the same the way it was before.

My Guru originally said that it happens due to the bend in sitar and this actually happens in all the sitars to some extent but this one is too much so I got it prepared and still it does the same thing

Question - Buying a sitar Reliable shops in Delhi

Hi community! I was duped the last time when I bought Sitar as a beginner from a shop in Jaipur as I was sold a low quality Lucknow Sitar while I paid the amount for a good quality Kolkata Sitar. I have managed to return it and am now looking to buy a new one. However, I am wary of being duped again and therefore looking for suggestions for reliable places to buy Sitars in Delhi. Also, it would be really helpful if someone can suggest the most important things to look for in Sitar while buying. This will really help me and I will try to take someone knowledgeable with me this time.

I bought this Sitar 3 months back and I am continuously having tonal issues and some of the notes are quite muffled even after getting it repaired once. I got the frets done again and still having issues. I now doubt the quality of the Sitar. Can anyone give an idea if this is a bad quality Sitar? Some are saying this might be Lucknow Sitar (they are cheaper and bad in quality) instead of the Kolkata one.

Question/Advice Using a pickup mic

Hello everyone! I recently bought a pickup mic to start recording music on the sitar but I'm facing a difficulty, that the sound is either too sharp and harsh or there's no sound at all. Is there any specific place where it needs to be attached? I've tried placing it below the main jawari, on the tabli near where there is usually the peacock motiff but both haven't worked out quite well. I am using medical tape to stick it temporarily as that is the only thing I know doesn't damage the finish.

Please do guide me as to where I should be installing the mic, any specific material I should be using, and perhaps any apps that can help with the sound. Thank you so much!
