Analysis Updated MLB Top 70 Prospect via Keith Law at The Athletic. SF with 5 Players

I didn't see a post with this article but Keith Law just released an updated prospect list and the Giants have 5 guys.

  • Josuar Gonzalez (12)
  • Luis Hernandez (39)
  • Jackson Flora (45)
  • Gavin Kilen (52)
  • Jhonny Level (64)

This season has not been great but it's nice to see that the last 2 first rounders by Posey and Co and Farhan's prospects are looking extremely promising.

Kind of a randomly specific ESPN-like stat but I thought it was cool nonetheless

News via Defector: Doofus Chaplain Takes The Giants’ Pride Night Victimhood To Instagram

Post image
325 Upvotes

I regret to bring us some more dumb team-related news: an article today from Chris Thompson at Defector documenting a piece of the furthering fallout from the Giants' terrible mess that they have made of 2026 Pride Night and all its continuing damage: "Doofus Chaplain Takes The Giants’ Pride Night Victimhood To Instagram" https://defector.com/doofus-chaplain-takes-the-giants-pride-night-victimhood-to-instagram .

I didn't know that the Giants had a chaplain at all.

Here's an archive.ph link if you hit a paywall: https://archive.ph/gM8NL

Here's u/corajade17 's important and timely opinion piece written today here on r/SFGiants : "I don't know what happened to the team I loved." https://old.reddit.com/r/SFGiants/comments/1v3m0yb/i_dont_know_what_happened_to_the_team_i_loved/

What do I want? I want a lot of things and when it comes to my beloved SFGiants here's what I want: I want the Giants to be better and to do better. Fire Tony V, fire Buster, fire Baer, and sell the team from the loathsome Johnson family to some local Bay Area person who genuinely wants to compete with the Dodgers, and will spend the money and bring in the baseball personnel to do so. Give Kruk and Kuip and Miller and Flem and The City some meaningful baseball to watch. That's my dream and it won't come to pass.

Opinion I don't know what happened to the team I loved

1.1k Upvotes

Downvote me to oblivion if you want, but I'm just so sad at how the team I've always grown up rooting for has turned out, and I need to talk about it.

This always seemed like a team that would welcome all comers and all types of fans. Now, from the front office down to the players and the marketing department, the focus seems to be pandering to Christians who like to discriminate and no one else.

Baseball is one of our country's finest inventions and institutions. The team is one of the oldest, survived a move from New York to San Francisco, and has produced some of the finest players the game has ever seen. I loved watching Barry Bonds chase the Home Run records (scandals and all), and hearing my dad talk about the Battle of the Bay the year I was born. It was exciting, as a young man, watching them win 3 World Series in 5 years, to freeze out some nights in the outfield stands, hoping the next home run would get to us. I've always supported the team, even if they've been bad, even if I can't watch every game.

I'm a trans woman and married to another woman now. I was happy that the Giants have always had Pride nights, and that the league has embraced the queer community as a whole. I don't need to tell you about San Francisco and the Bay Area in terms of the community. I was looking forward to getting an SF Pride hat and rocking it no matter the standings. Before I even figured myself out, I always thought that if a gay athlete could rise to a professional level and get a shot at making a living for themselves, baseball and the Giants made sense as a destination.

I don't recognize this team anymore. I was so happy to hear Buster Posey getting his position, and now I can't wait for him to leave the league for good. Even the MLB top office and other teams have all navigated any kind of "issue" around showing respect for fellow humans, and they're even calling out the Giants for how they're handling these players who feel the need to wear their religion on their sleeves and make cherry-picked Bible verses their entire personality.

I don't get it. I don't want to get it. And now that we're selling this merch? No.

I hope we continue to lose and fail until they decide to accept fellow humans as humans. I won't ever happily root for the Dodgers, but I would have an easier time doing so now over continuing to back the team I have my entire life.

Sorry, fellow Giants fans, but this is where I draw the line in my fandom. I encourage you to think about where your lines are too. I hope they change one day again and I can feel good rooting for my favorite baseball team again.

Minors Update Daily Minors Quick-Notes 7/22/26 - Richmond Splits a Rain-Soaked Doubleheader

The rain didn’t stop in Richmond, but it was a lot less heavy than on Tuesday, so both games went on despite how soaked we all were.  The games were led by the new trio of players from High-A that got promoted.  Meanwhile, Scott Bandura continues his hot July with a big day and a home run.  And Jean Carlos Sio’s power surge in Double-A reaches a crazy new benchmark.

AAA: Sacramento River Cats 7, Oklahoma City Comets 1

Link

Player of the Game: RF Scott Bandura: 3-5, 2 R, 2 RBI, 1 K, 1 HR (4)

This was the fourth straight game with multiple hits for Bandura as his strong July continues.  Over that span, he’s 11-for-17 (.647) with two doubles and a home run, and also with three walks and three strikeouts.  In Triple-A this season, Bandura is slashing .295/.374/.432, with ten doubles, two triples, and four home runs in 51 games.

Other Players to Spotlight:

  • DH Parks Harber (13): 2-5, 1 R, 4 RBI, 2 K - Harber got his first Triple-A home run in his fifth game at the level.  He had 12 home runs in 66 games at Double-A.
  • 1B Dayson Croes: 1-3, 1 R, 1 K, 1 2B (4), 1 HBP - Croes now has 11 doubles in 55 total games across three levels this season.
  • 2B Nate Furman: 2-4, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 E (9) - Furman is batting .283 with a .774 OPS on the season.

Top Prospect Lines:

  • LF Bo Davidson (6): 1-5, 1 K
  • SP Blade Tidwell (9): 5.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 5 K, 1 WP, 1 HBP
  • Carson Whisenhunt (11): DNP
  • Trent Harris (20): DNP
  • Joe Whitman (23): DNP

Other Notable Lines:

  • C Zach Morgan: 1-4, 1 R, 1 RBI, 2 K, 1 2B (2)
  • RP Ryan Walker: 2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
  • CF Turner Hill: 1-3, 1 BB, 1 SB (21)

AA: DOUBLEHEADER

Game 1: Hartford Yard Goats 6, Richmond Flying Squirrels 5 (7 Innings)

Link

Game 2: Richmond 5, Hartford Yard Goats 3 (7 Innings)

Link

Player of the Day: CF Trevor Cohen (8): 3-7, 3 R, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 1 3B (1)

Trevor Cohen had his biggest day for Richmond so far, thanks to through two games, and his triple is his first extra-base hit for the Squirrels.  He’s still hitting just .227 in Double-A.  It’s his third triple of the season, to go with 26 doubles and three home runs, including his time in Eugene.

Other Players to Spotlight:

  • RF Dakota Jordan: 3-8, 1 R, 2 RBI, 1 K, 1 2B (2), 1 SB (3) - Jordan is 7-for-20 in Richmond, and now has 18 steals in 20 attempts overall.
  • SS-DH Gavin Kilen (4): 2-5, 3 RBI, 2 BB, 1 K, 2 2B (3), 1 SF - Kilen has a at least one hit in every Double-A game so far, with extra-base hits in four of them, including a double in each half of this doubleheader.
  • LF Jean Carlos Sio: 1-3, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 HR (9) - Sio only played the first game, but now has more home runs in 36 games at Richmond than he had in any other of his first four pro seasons, all of which he had played more games in.
  • 2B Diego Velasquez: 3-4, 2 R, 2 BB, 1 2B (18) - Velasquez pushed his average above .300 for the first time since the opening weeks of the season, but he was 0-for-1 with two walks in Game 2, breaking an 8-game hit streak.

Top Prospect Lines:

  • SS Maui Ahuna (18): 0-4, 2 BB
  • C Jancel Villarroel (22): 1-3, 1 RBI, 1 E (1) - LEVEL DEBUt
  • DNP Yunior Marte (25): Stats

Other Notable Lines:

  • RP Will Bednar: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K
  • RP Tyler Vogel: 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
  • C Ty Hanchey: 2-3, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 K

High-A: Eugene Emeralds 10, Everett AquaSox 5

Link

Player of the Game: LF Carlos Gutierrez (14): 3-5, 3 R, 1 RBI, 1 K, 2 SB (23)

Carlos Gutierrez now has three multi-hit games in a row, and six of them in the month.  Here in July, Gutierrez is 21-for-54 (.389) and has a higher OBP (.507) than slugging percentage (.500), as he only has six doubles on the month.  This game broke a streak of four games with a double.

Other Players to Spotlight:

  • CF Lisbel Diaz (30): 2-5, 2 RBI, 1 K, 1 3B (2) - This is Diaz’s third triple overall this season, with the last one coming back on June 16th.
  • RF Jose Astudillo: 3-4, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 SB (3) - After Astudillo went 2-for-12 in his first three games in High-A, he’s been 5-for-7 since, for an overall .368 average with the Ems.

Top Prospect Lines:

  • SS Jhonny Level (3): 0-3, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 SF
  • SP Luis De La Torre (15): 4.0 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, 1 HR, 2 E (6)
  • RP Gerelmi Maldonado (29): 1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 1 K, 1 WP
  • Jacob Bresnahan (7): DNP

Other Notable Lines:

  • DH Jakob Christian: 1-3, 1 RBI - Christian was mysteriously lifted for a pinch-hitter while the game was tied in the 8th, but it does not appear to be due to injury.
  • C Daniel Rogers: 1-3, 1 R, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 1 2B (3)
  • RP Mauricio Estrella: 2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K

Other Players to Spotlight:

Carson Whisenhunt has been called up and optioned back three times this season. Every time, he's answered immediately. A rough July 1 start (6 ER in 5 IP) led into a two-day cup of coffee with San Francisco, then his best outing of the year right after getting sent back down: five shutout innings against Albuquerque, 8 K, 0 BB, the win. Season line: 4.15 ERA, 90 K in 82.1 IP, reigning PCL Pitcher of the Year. Full breakdown in this week's Triple Dip.

Farhan would never!

Are Peguero and/or Butto due to come back from the 60 day IL soon?

Trent Harris, Joe Whitman, and Scott Bandura are among the candidates to be promoted from AAA fairly soon.

Is this just to save ownership money or is it just more management head scratching stupidity?

News Only 8 Teams in MLB History have gone an entire season without completing a series sweep. Can the Giants join this historic list?

1983 Seattle Mariners

2004 Arizona Diamondbacks

2004 Kansas City Royals

2018 Miami Marlins

2019 Baltimore Orioles

2020 St. Louis Cardinals

2021 Pittsburgh Pirates

2022 Washington Nationals

Giants have played 33 series and haven't completed a sweep. 19 Series to go. I think they have a real shot. To be fair, they did win both games in the Braves series but the final game was postponed and will be made up later. What a fun season!
