Opinion I don't know what happened to the team I loved

Downvote me to oblivion if you want, but I'm just so sad at how the team I've always grown up rooting for has turned out, and I need to talk about it.

This always seemed like a team that would welcome all comers and all types of fans. Now, from the front office down to the players and the marketing department, the focus seems to be pandering to Christians who like to discriminate and no one else.

Baseball is one of our country's finest inventions and institutions. The team is one of the oldest, survived a move from New York to San Francisco, and has produced some of the finest players the game has ever seen. I loved watching Barry Bonds chase the Home Run records (scandals and all), and hearing my dad talk about the Battle of the Bay the year I was born. It was exciting, as a young man, watching them win 3 World Series in 5 years, to freeze out some nights in the outfield stands, hoping the next home run would get to us. I've always supported the team, even if they've been bad, even if I can't watch every game.

I'm a trans woman and married to another woman now. I was happy that the Giants have always had Pride nights, and that the league has embraced the queer community as a whole. I don't need to tell you about San Francisco and the Bay Area in terms of the community. I was looking forward to getting an SF Pride hat and rocking it no matter the standings. Before I even figured myself out, I always thought that if a gay athlete could rise to a professional level and get a shot at making a living for themselves, baseball and the Giants made sense as a destination.

I don't recognize this team anymore. I was so happy to hear Buster Posey getting his position, and now I can't wait for him to leave the league for good. Even the MLB top office and other teams have all navigated any kind of "issue" around showing respect for fellow humans, and they're even calling out the Giants for how they're handling these players who feel the need to wear their religion on their sleeves and make cherry-picked Bible verses their entire personality.

I don't get it. I don't want to get it. And now that we're selling this merch? No.

I hope we continue to lose and fail until they decide to accept fellow humans as humans. I won't ever happily root for the Dodgers, but I would have an easier time doing so now over continuing to back the team I have my entire life.

Sorry, fellow Giants fans, but this is where I draw the line in my fandom. I encourage you to think about where your lines are too. I hope they change one day again and I can feel good rooting for my favorite baseball team again.

News Only 8 Teams in MLB History have gone an entire season without completing a series sweep. Can the Giants join this historic list?

1983 Seattle Mariners

2004 Arizona Diamondbacks

2004 Kansas City Royals

2018 Miami Marlins

2019 Baltimore Orioles

2020 St. Louis Cardinals

2021 Pittsburgh Pirates

2022 Washington Nationals

Giants have played 33 series and haven't completed a sweep. 19 Series to go. I think they have a real shot. To be fair, they did win both games in the Braves series but the final game was postponed and will be made up later. What a fun season!

Minors Update Daily Minors Quick-Notes 7/21/26 - The ACL Team Throws a No Hitter* in the Season’s Final Days

The ACL season officially ends on Thursday, and while pitching has been a weakness on the team, it was a strength today as the team threw a (7-inning) no-hitter. And don’t worry, Josuar Gonzalez also had a home run in the win.  Meanwhile, we had a lot of home runs in a blowout win for Eugene, a bullpen game for Sacramento, and a lot of rain and lightning in Richmond.

AAA: Sacramento River Cats 7, Oklahoma City Comets 3

Link

Player of the Game: C Adrian Sugastey: 2-4, 2 R, 2 RBI, 1 HR (1) - LEVEL DEBUT

Not only did Adrian Sugastey come off the injured list, but he gets his long awaited debut at Triple-A after starting three season at Double-A.  This season, before his injury, the 23-year old was slashing .275/.323/.392 at Double-A over 36 games.  Sugastey was rated by Baseball America before the season as the Giants’ best defensive catcher, though his offensive ceiling has not been high, as he posted a .545 OPS in Double-A in 2024 and a .627 OPS in 2025.

Other Players to Spotlight:

  • RF Turner Hill: 2-4, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 2B (14), 1 3B (4), 1 SB (20) - Hill extended his hitting streak to nine games.  This season in Triple-A, he’s slashing .331/.402/.488.
  • DH Will Brennan: 1-5, 1 R, 2 RBI, 2 K, 1 HR (3) - Brennan is slashing .333/.365/.461 in 51 Triple-A games, but this is just his third home run to go with 15 doubles.
  • SP Trent Harris (20): 3.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K - This was the 27-year old’s first pro start, though this was likely more of a bullpen game than a change for him.  The strong game lowered his ERA to 3.78 this season with 39 strikeouts to 17 walks in 33.1 innings.

Top Prospect Lines:

  • LF Bo Davidson (6): 0-5, 1 R, 2 K
  • 3B Parks Harber (13): 2-4, 1 BB, 1 K
  • RP Joe Whitman (23): 1.1 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K - Whitman has a 2.84 ERA as a reliever in five appearances (6.1 IP).
  • Blade Tidwell (9): DNP
  • Carson Whisenhunt (11): DNP

Other Notable Lines:

  • CF Scott Bandura: 2-4, 1 R, 1 BB, 2 K
  • 2B Osleivis Basabe: 0-1, 1 R, 3 BB

AA: Postponed (Rain)

The rain was wild in Richmond on Tuesday.  This game has been rescheduled as a doubleheader on Wednesday, although there is still rain in the forecast.  This is Richmond’s last series with Hartford, so they’ll do all they can to get the games in.

High-A: Eugene Emeralds 13, Everett AquaSox 8

Link

Player of the Game: 2B Isaiah Barkett: 3-6, 2 R, 2 RBI, 1 K, 1 HR (1)

It took Isaiah Barkett four games in Eugene to notch his first home run, after he had only five home runs in 73 games with San Jose.  The 10th round pick had hit .331 in San Jose, but after this game is 5-for-17 (.294) in Eugene so far.  This was just his first strikeout in High-A though, against two walks.  Overall, he has 39 walks to just 28 strikeouts.

Other Players to Spotlight:

  • RF Jakob Christian: 2-4, 1 R, 3 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 2B (14), 1 3B (1), 1 HBP - Christian has been coming on stronger in July, hitting 14-for-47 (.298) with three doubles, a triple, and four home runs this month.
  • 3B Walker Martin: 1-2, 1 R, 2 RBI, 3 BB, 1 K, 1 HR (13) - Since the All-Star Break, Martin has gone 6-for-12 (.500) with a double and two home runs.
  • 1B Zander Darby: 2-5, 1 R, 3 RBI, 1 BB, 2 K, 1 HR (9) - Darby has three home runs in his last five games, but also seven strikeouts.  On the year, he has 102 strikeouts in 307 PA, a 33.2% strikeout rate.

Top Prospect Lines:

  • Jhonny Level (3): 0-5, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 E (4)
  • DH Carlos Gutierrez (14): 2-4, 3 R, 2 RBI, 2 BB, 1 SB (21)
  • CF Lisbel Diaz (30): 2-6, 1 R, 1 K, 1 2B (11)
  • Jacob Bresnahan (7): DNP
  • Luis De La Torre (15): DNP
  • Jancel Villarroel (22): DNP
  • Gerelmi Maldonado (29): DNP

Other Notable Lines:

  • LF Jose Astudillo: 2-3, 2 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 2 SB (2)

Low-A: Ontario Tower Buzzers 6, San Jose Giants 2

Link

Player of the Game: SP Trey Seeley: 4.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 5 K, 1 HR

Trey Seeley started his season as a reliever, but made his third start of the season (and second start in a row with San Jose), but went a season-high 4.0 IP.  Seeley’s ERA is 8.82 in San Jose over 16.1 IP, but has 23 strikeouts to six walks.

Other Players to Spotlight:

  • 1B Robert Hipwell: 2-3, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K - Hipwell returned to San Jose for the first time this season, after slashing .161/.331/.288 in 39 games with Eugene this season.
  • SS Lorenzo Meola (17): 1-4, 1 2B (27) - Meola’s hot July conitnues, as he’s 25-for-60 (.417) with eight doubles, one triple, and five home runs in the month.
  • CF Andy Polanco: 1-3, 2 RBI, 2 K, 1 CS (7) - Polanco has 25 strikeouts in 32 attempts, a 78.1% rate.

Top Prospect Lines:

  • Keyner Martinez (10): DNP

Other Notable Lines:

  • C Rod Barajas Jr.: 1-4, 2 K, 1 E (12)

ACL: ACL Giants 6, ACL Cubs 0 (7 Innings) - NO HITTER

Link

Player of the Game: RP Marlon Franco: 3.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K

Marlon Franco didn’t start the game, but he got the lion’s share of the innings in this no-hitter as the game’s final pitcher, and got a ton of strikeouts as the other two pitchers only got two in 3.2 IP.  Franco does have a 7.15 ERA with a .327 average allowed in 39.0 IP this season.

Top Prospect Lines:

  • 2B Josuar Gonzalez (1): 1-3, 2 R, 3 RBI, 1 BB, 1 HR (2), 1 SB (8)
  • SS Luis Hernández (2): 1-4
  • 3B Yulian Barreto (28): 1-3, 1 R, 1 RBI
  • Alberto Laroche (19): DNP
  • Carlos De La Rosa (26): DNP
  • Leandro Rodriguez (27): DNP

Rehabbing Player Lines:

  • SP Ben Peterson: 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K - Peterson made his first rehab appearance.  He had a 3.45 ERA through 11 Double-A games before his injury (and a 1.38 ERA through 9 High-A games previously), and hasn’t appeared since June 17th.
  • 1B Hayden Jatczak: 1-2 - This was Jatcazk’s first rehab game, playing just five innings.  He’s been out since June 26th.

Other Notable Lines:

  • RP Kendry Castro: 2.2 IP, 0 H, 2 BB, 1 K, 1 Balk
  • RF Evan Estevez: 1-2, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K
  • C Santiago Camacho: 1-3, 1 K

DSL: DSL Giants Black 7, DSL Giants Orange 2

Minors Update That stung... (no? I'll stop!) Down on the farm, the San Jose Giants with a bit of yips, and some errors, come back to haunt them as the Ontario Tower Buzzers continue dominating the San Jose Giants as they drop Game 1 of the series, 6-2 the final (Scorecard and Notes below ⬇️)

Post image
9 Upvotes

The Biggest Rivalry in Baseball, MiLB edition: The San Jose Giants (SF) and Ontario Tower Buzzers (LAD) met up for their 3rd and final week that both teams will face off against each other in the 2026 season. Tuesday marked Game 1 of this 6 game series, and the first time Ontario returns to Excite Ballpark since Late April. Ontario is the only team the San Jose Giants struggle with this season. Entering Tuesday, Ontario have won 7 of the last 12 against San Jose, splitting the series 3-3 in April, and Ontario winning 4 of 6 back at ONT Field. San Jose, who entered the series undefeated in the 2nd half at Excite Ballpark (9-0) look to flip that around.

Ontario's letter of the day; K: Tower Buzzers starter Will Gagnon found ownage against the San Jose Giants early, as in the first 3 innings, he would retire the side in order, having the Giants baffled, racking up 6 Ks in the first 3. From the 4th to the 6th, San Jose has ruined the chance of having Gagnon on a no-hitter watch, as Rod Barajas Jr., Robert Hipwell, and Lorenzo Meola, would get hits off of the dominant Tower Buzzers starter.

Hip Hip(well): Robert Hipwell surprisingly returns to San Jose after a rough start up in High A Eugene. Entering today at Excite Ballpark, Robert Hipwell was batting .161 with 3 Home Runs and 12 RBIs. He would be demoted from High A Eugene back to Single A San Jose and was in the lineup for Tuesday's matchup. In his return, Hipwell would go 2-3 with 2 singles, scoring one of San Jose's two runs, and a strikeout from Gagnon.

Cleared for Take-Off: The Ontario Tower Buzzers would start off their scoring frenzy with 3 solo home runs in the 3rd, 6th, and 7th innings, all of them being no-doubters. Javier Herrera started off the party in the 3rd with a solo shot to left center field to break it open 1-0 over San Jose. Kellon Lindsey would then follow up in the 6th inning off of Fernando Vasquez, to left center as well to make it 2-0. Done yet? Nope, as Ontario's home run leader, Easton Shelton, would pimp one deep into the San Jose night, with his team-leading 29th home run of the year to make it 3-0 Ontario. The long ball was all in favor of Ontario tonight.

Whoops!: The Giants defense would continue to struggle with errors on defense. Of the 3 errors, one would come from Rod Barajas Jr. in the 3rd inning, which was a throwing error to second base on a stolen base attempt by Ontario outfielder Jaron Elkins. In the 8th, Sam Knowlton on a throwing error made Ontario infielder Kellon Lindsey advance to second, which would lead to Ontario scoring another run. And a very costly error in the 9th by Oliver Tejada. What looked like a routine fly out to end the inning in the 9th, would lead to a catastrophic error. Tejada looked to have caught the ball but would then fall out of his glove, leading to 2 more runs in the 9th.

Well that stings...: Ontario would take advantage of the errors by San Jose, as they hang on to take Game 1 of the series against the San Jose Giants, with the final of 6-2 from Excite Ballpark on a very hot day in San Jose.

Player of the Game for San Jose:

Trey Seeley: L, 4.0 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 5 K

Hello! Someone in the community dropped this signed Giants shirt off as a donation but didn't provide details about who signed nor is there a certificate of authentication with those details. Our team isn't the most savvy when it comes to sports memorabilia and autographs 😅 Can anyone help identify who's signature this is? Thank you in advance for the help!

News Susan Slusser reports that Tristan Beck is in the Giants clubhouse. So it’s possible that an IL stint for McDonald is coming.
