I’m currently a 2nd year mechanical engineering student with hopes of joining as a Marine Engineer Officer.

I’m currently torn between doing a year long internship I was offered by an engineering company or finishing 3rd year and joining up late next year.

I’m 100 percent dead set on joining the navy but I’m worried about how competitive the Final Selection Board has become due to the hang ups in training. I’m wondering if experience as an engineer would even give me a higher FSB score to be worthwhile assuming I put it across well in the PRI.

I guess if anyone could answer if the navy cares much about prior experience as an engineer or if having work experience would even be worth another year’s delay.

How was it, and how long did it take from you joining?

I’ve been in about 2 years now and about to go onto my 2nd ship as a sea spec. The whole reason I joined the navy as a whole is to do boat stuff like bordings and also was told I’d do a lot of gunner type stuff too. If your a civvie you’d think the military would be full of switched on guys and girls however it’s the complete opposite. It’s full of officers who don’t really know what they are doing and don’t trust themselfs or there department to do there job (what they are paid to do). My days even on ship is full of nothing. I get paid to sit and do nothing when the whole reason I joined was to do some cool shit. I’ve been looking in on some other roles and potential ‘upgrades’ in my career and was wondering if someone could give me some info on all arms commando course, 148 battery and potentially in the future onto selection.

Right so I made an RN application yesterday and within like 12 hours or so I was invited to do the DAA, I waited a couple of hours to do the DAA because I had some stuff do before
Essentially I did the DAA the same day I got it
And yesterday apparently they tried to contact me (RN careers) but my phone never rang I only got the missed call text saying I missed their call and they gave me a number to call them back on, I called that number this morning and spoke with the recruiter and the reason for the call was to check up on how I was doing with the application and stuff like that I told them I had completed the DAA already and they then told me about the initial briefing/ presentation about the RN and they gave me my AFCO’s RN email address to send them an email about booking my initial presentation and like 10 or so minutes after that call I basically got a notification that my application has been rejected and closed with no apparent reason at ALL given
Does anyone know what could be the reason for the rejection? And like what’s the best course of action? Idk I’m just really shocked by the rejection it was so sudden with no reason provided at all
I just sent an email to the email address they provided asking about the rejection and if they could look into it

Afternoon all,

I’ll keep it short, my dad was in 801 squadron through the 90’s and early 2000’s onboard Illustrious. His bday is coming up and I’m trying to find a bit of history from that time. Whether it’s an altimeter from a harrier. A part of the ship. Just anything that isn’t crazy money from that time he’ll maybe recognise. Ideally looking for something that’s actually seen real life us.

If anyone could help point me in the right direction or recommend a place to purchase memorabilia from that time I’d appreciate it. Even if there are Former 801 squadron members who read this and want something taken off their hands for the right price I’d appreciate it.

I am joining INT in September and was wondering what the sporting opportunities are like in Phase 2. I should be going to HMS Sultan following INT and am a very keen hockey player. Will there be an opportunity to train and play for the base?

My neighbour (18 f) is joining the navy and we want to get her a going away present but we have no idea what to get.

When I joined the army I was gifted a good multi tool for exercise and a morale box but don’t feel a multi tool is useful for navy. She isn’t a big stacker so morale box doesn’t seem ideal.

What do you wish you had when you first joined? Any ideas are welcome!!

Just wanting to ask whether it is better for me to reopen my application now or waiting until A-levels results day to reopen it. I did my DAA and AIB and according to people they will keep them for 2-3 years so my only issue will be doing CPC. I no longer want to go to university and have re thought everything and believe the navy is correct for me. I also want to know if it would be a good idea for me to email my recruiter and ask if they have everything and giving clear reasons for why I'm coming back.

This forum can be a bit tiresome as a recruiting centre at times, so I thought I’d show a ship doing some cool ship stuff.

7 years ago the captain of STIRLING CASTLE was Captain of ENTERPRISE and I was Navigator. We did the first rafting of a MCMV to a SVHO (as MCM Command ship was her secondary role).

Today I took my own ship alongside STCL to pioneer her secondary role as a conventional MCM mothership.

Today has been a good Navy Day.

As a female I was just curious as to what other women got for their 2.4km run time and how fast most women run it in?

Also just curious if you are in rooms with people in your group for the four days or whether you are all in separate groups. Also wondering if it’s easy to get lost if whether it’s straight forward. Also just curious what each day looks like and what are the instructors like

Hello everyone, I’m currently at college and have just finished my first year. My second year wraps up in June next year, and I’m curious about when to apply. I’m particularly interested in the Accelerated Air Engineering Apprenticeship and would love to know when is a good time to apply. Also, I’m wondering about Raleigh’s intake dates and whether I’ll have the option to start before or after the summer break. What do you all think?
