What are the most helpful cues you've gotten for better rowing form?

Trying to improve leg drive right now and found that the cue of keeping inside of elbows turned up helped me engage lats a bit more, though I still have issues generating as much wattage as I think I should be able to. What are the cues that coaches have given you that have been really helpful in making good rowing technique click? Can be for any part of the stroke

What are Model Ds actually selling for these days?

Picked up a Model D a few weeks ago after months of watching Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist. The price variation is genuinely wild. Saw identical machines, same model year, same condition, ranging from $500 to $950 within the same week in my area. No real logic to it. Ended up paying $700, which felt fair but also maybe too much. Hard to tell. The PM5 was clean and the chain felt fine after a quick wipe down. Previous owner kept it in a garage, which always makes me a little nervous about the flywheel, but it seems okay so far.

Curious what other people have been paying lately and whether there are any red flags worth checking that aren't obvious. I looked at the monorail, the seat rollers, pulled the cage off to check the fan blades. Felt pretty thorough, but this is only my second erg so I'm not exactly a veteran of used C2 inspection.

Also wondering if the price gap between Model D and Model E on the used market is actually worth it, or if people are just paying for the seat height and not much else.

Class of 2028 recruiting

For the class of 2028, what is the 2k range to be in to be on track for recruitment to d1 men’s heavyweight schools? As upcoming juniors realistically what times do you need to be at now to be on track to hit the standards to get recruited?

Off the Water I failed my 2k

Upvotes

I really wanted to go 6:58.
I got halfway done and was holding it fine with energy left and I just gave up. I’m feeling really unconfident right now and my coach was only upset with me when 3 other guys DNF’d. Thoughts?

Shooting the slide

Upvotes

Hi!

I’ve been rowing for over a year now. After a recent power piece, I noticed I was really having trouble getting my blade cleanly out of the water and having enough room to tap down. I was almost fighting my blade from hitting my chest coming into the finish.

I asked my coach about this and he said I was “shooting the slide.” He talked about water pockets and I got a little lost. Can someone explain this to me in simple terms?

When I was taught rowing, they said push with the legs at the drive, then body swing back, then arms finish (three separate moves).

How do I know when I’m doing it? Does hip hinge have to do something with it?

Bought a Concept 2... q about Apple Watch and seat cover

After months of saving money and researching rowing machines, we finally purchased a Concept 2 and I immediately love it. My partner and I are both 41. I used to row competitively back in high school and I think it's just the best cardio (and strength!) workout! We have three kids (17, 14, and 9) and the middle one has already logged a couple sessions. Very happy all around with our purchase!

I tried to search but couldn't find any recent posts about what apps people are using with their Apple Watch when using their erg. Could anyone let me know?

Also, my partner wants a seat cover to make the seat less firm. I am working on positioning with him but I wonder if anyone has suggestions for something that would make the seat a little more comfortable (I find it just fine, though). Thanks everyone!

I have been trying to get better at rowing and worked with a few online S&C coaches but then had issues since my current gym is a commercial gym and doing all exercises in circuits was hard so I modified it a bit
Can you let me know if I should do it or not? What can I improve and how to make it as rowing specific as possible.

Do you think I’m missing some strength rows or not?

Day 1 – Power + Max Strength

  1. Hang Cleans
  2. Deadlift
  3. Bench Press
  4. Leg Press
  5. Dumbbell Chops

Day 2 – Strength + Power

  1. Front/Back Squat (Can I replace these with a hack squat?)
  2. Push Press
  3. Pendlay Row
  4. Split-Stance RDLs
  5. Kettlebell Swings
  6. Dying bugs knee press

Day 3 – Posterior Chain + Upper Body

  1. Romanian Deadlift
  2. Split squat
  3. Weighted Push-Ups
  4. Pull-Ups/Chin-Ups
  5. Face Pulls
  6. Hip Thrusts

It’s 120 at 7 on the scale. Is stated drag factor on the screen trustworthy?

Hey everyone,
I’ve been treating the Concept2 less like a traditional racing shell and more as a functional tool for building raw power and heavy muscle-endurance.
I've only been rowing for almost a month now (hitting workouts on the rower every week), and when I first started out, I didn't even realize how the damper settings worked. One of my first milestones was hitting 5,017 meters in 25:36 (averaging 97 watts at 26 SPM).
Once, I pushed it all the way to maximum. On July 8th, I completed 10,000 meters on Damper 10 in 50:49. It was a brutal test of grit, leg drive, and lower back control, forcing me to reshape my movement mid-pull and lock in my breathing rhythm under heavy drag.
Now that I know more about the settings, I'm switching things up and dialing it back down to Damper 6. My long-term goal is to build up to a full marathon (42k), so dropping the drag lets me shift the load onto my aerobic system, protect my spine, and build sustainable endurance-strength without blowing out my recovery.
Tested out Damper 6 on a 5-minute piece today:
Distance: 1,229 meters (5:06)

Average Split: 2:04.7 / 500m

Stroke Rate: 31 SPM

Projected 30-Min: ~6,969 meters

Curious to hear from anyone else who uses higher damper settings for hybrid power-endurance—how do you adjust your stroke rate and pacing when scaling up the volume for long distance?
Copy, paste, attach your two monitor pictures, and you're good to go!
I also train for my long endurance runs and when I’m not going hard I train intervals like maybe 5 min hard and 2 mins recovery paces and back at it agian how do you fit train endurance power and what damp are we talking here I’ve bin called a outlier already who is unorthodox for using damp6 and 10
