Welcome to talk about everything road racing! From the history of the sport to vintage road races. From the IRRC, Irish and Czech road races to the most famous road races on earth as being the Isle of Man TT, North West 200, Manx GP (and hopefully soon back on the calendar: the Ulster Grand Prix!)
Do you think you’ve a question that is “dumb”, don’t hesitate. Create a topic with the flair “bench racing” and we will see, maybe it is, on the contrary, the start of an interesting talk between road racing fans.
If you are a regular visitor of road races, where ever in the world, we invite you to post your original content (OC) and share photos, videos or even written race reports with us.
You can follow our Twitter feed: @_RoadRacing

Hello, I've had the Southern on my to-do list for a while as the weather always seems better than the TT, I prefer the mass starts and you can't beat riding the TT course. That was so much easier and faster than on a TT week, plus The Mountain was actually open.
Harrison cleaned up in the big bike races. Browne took most Supersport honours, though Joe Yeardsley won the last one. He's very popular on the island, and won the 1st lightweight race.
Viewing wise S100 is very good. You can't walk to new corners between races because bikes get back on track so soon. Church Bends lived up to the hype. People climb on graves and tombs to get views. That's one of the pics.
The entrance to Iron Gate I literally had my cap blown off on lap 1 of Thursday's 1st Supersport race. Stadium Corner was very good too, then I parked nearer town and watched the end from the S&F so I could get out before the roads opened. We were very fortunate to have perfect weather, with no red flags or delays
I think most people here know of the Southern but it's an overall underrated event that is only 1.2 miles from IOM airport too. I managed 11 runs over the Mountain compared to 1 when I went to the 2017 TT.
Hickman with more experience, Harrison and Todd next year is tantalising... Dunlop was there, he only ran in the 1000cc class and was in one of his quieter moods, race-wise.
Steam Packet do good value ferry plus hotel deals. Hickman was promoting these a week beforehand, so they must be available until really late.
TL;DR go to the Southern, especially next year.
P.S. Ulster GP is still my favourite.

As an Aussie who’s just come back from the IOM TT and has loved it for years. It had me thinking, as Australia lacks any sort of (closed public) road racing that I’m aware of. what would be a similar event to the TT down under?
Mount Panorama already has one of the richest motorsport histories in Australia, and motorcycles used to race there. Superbike racing at Bathurst was a thing, and the Mountain has always been one of the most iconic pieces of road in Australian motorsport. With the Isle of Man TT, Southern 100, and other road races proving that closed-road racing can still exist with modern safety measures, could Bathurst ever be a candidate for something similar?
Obviously it wouldn’t be without risk. Road racing never is. But Bathurst already has:
a purpose-built motorsport layout that is also a public road,
excellent road surface,
existing spectator infrastructure,
medical/event facilities,
a huge motorsport following,
proximity to Sydney and major population centres.
Modern safety measures have also come a long way. Air fences, improved barriers, better medical response, rider airbags and equipment could potentially make it a much safer event than it would have been decades ago.
I also think it could produce some incredible racing. Unlike many traditional road races that are difficult for overtaking. Bathurst has genuine overtaking opportunities, particularly around Hell Corner and Murray’s Corner and if you’re brave enough through The Chase. with runoff available in parts of the lower section of the circuit. A mass-start format around Mount Panorama would be something pretty unique.

This weekend will be my first time at the Skerries 100. There's very little info about on what time you should arrive on each day, where to park, do you have to be there really early to get a good spot to view it etc. So would love some tips from anyone who's been before! Thanks

A clip from the sidecar documentary Side By Side which features footage from the 1978 Isle of Man TT. Worth a watch for the wide array of outfits!
