Tactile writing experience- Pure vs. RM2 pressure curves and nibs

Upvotes

Grabbed a Pure from Best Buy to try it out for two weeks. The tablet is very obviously faster, the blacks are darker, and the white a (little bit) whiter. All of which is fine. And I love that it's just black and white. I've never cared at all for the flashing colors of my wife's Pro.

Having said all of that, I have a Remarkable for the tactile writing experience. It's 100% what brought me to the platform back in 2018. And... it's just not as nice to write on he Pure for me as the RM2 or RM1. Of course, it's not EMR anymore (which is my preference), but I really feel like it could be a solvable problem.

Partly, the pressure curve isn't as nice for me. I can't get as consistently fine lines with a delicate touch, and then a smooth ramp up in pressure with this pen, the way I can with the RM2. The Pure's pressure curve is a little clunky. I can't get as thin and I have to press much harder to get it thick.

Second, I wish they (or someone) offered a felt nib for this device. It would go a long way, I suspect, to improving the writing feel-- which is supposedly what it's all about for Remarkable. These harder nibs are still "tappy tappy", the way the Apple Pencil is, which I've never liked, and which I never had with the RM2.

I've read that the texture can soften some with time, so I'm going to give it the 2 weeks and see where I land. But if the writing experience isn't quite as nice, I need a clear benefit as a trade off. Since I don't read big PDFs on my device, speed doesn't really matter for me. A backlight might have done it for me. But as it is... I might just stay with my RM2 for now (which does what I need) and see where tech takes me in another few years.

Any thoughts or helpful insights on this?

Self-Promotion A free 5-year "one line a day" journal, sized exactly for the reMarkable

Thumbnail

Upvotes

Maker disclosure up front: I also make a paid journaling app, so weigh that however you want. But this is a free PDF, it isn't tied to the app, and there's no email gate or account. I'd rather say that plainly than have anyone wonder if it's bait.

I keep a handwritten journal, and I've always liked the old "one line a day" idea: one page per date, five year-slots stacked on the page, a single line for each year. You write today's line, and right above it you can see what you wrote on this date last year, and the year before. After a couple of years, the same date shows you how much you've changed.

I couldn't find a version that actually fit the reMarkable, so I made one and I'm giving it away.

What makes it reMarkable-specific and not just any PDF:

- The page is 157.5 x 210 mm, the exact 3:4 ratio of the rM2 and Paper Pro, so it fills the screen with no white margins.

- It's a vector PDF, so one file stays sharp on rM1, rM2, and Paper Pro without re-exporting per device.

- The contents page links each month to its first day, and every month is an outline bookmark, so month navigation shows up in the reMarkable sidebar.

- Fonts are embedded, it's about 400 KB and 369 pages, and the day pages are deliberately plain: lots of whitespace, no branding sitting on them.

It's CC BY 4.0, so it's yours to use and change however you like. Direct download, no signup:

inkward.life/en/one-line-a-day

It's on the site in six languages total (also German, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Finnish) if English isn't your first.

If you already keep a five-year or one-line-a-day journal on your rM, I'd like to know how you handle the year-slots, and whether one line a day feels like enough or too little. That limit is the whole idea of the format, but it seems to be the part people either love or bounce right off.

Adjust custom view on PDFs without annoying borders?

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I just received my tablet and I am happy so far, however, since I mostly use it for reading + annotating PDFs, I typically adjust my files to a custom view that gives me extra space to take notes on the edges. However, I was wondering if anyone has figured out how to do this without getting these annoying black borders around the original PDF format?

Remarkable Paper Pro - Screen Replacement (Interest)

Hello everyone, as I have noticed this community is decently mad that you cant buy replacement screen for the remarkable tablets. Now as it happens to be I had an unfortunate event where my screen cracked, and while usable it get pretty annoying around the main impact point. This is how i found that the only option how to get it fixed is completely, new device, which well if i am honest is just stupid. So i had another idea, find a one that has good screen but something else is broken and as such can use it as a donor device. Now its not cheap, but it ends up cheaper than whole new or refurbished device. As I found such device I was curious if people would be interested in having a nice and detailed iFixit replacement guide for this or if its just something that is unlikely to help at all.

Thank you for everyone's time.

General Discussion Digital to analogue

Anyone else gone from fully digital note-taking back to analogue or combined digital and analogue because paper and pen just feel better? I enjoy my reMarkable, but the clunky software and lack of updates sometimes make me question why I'm using it instead of a simple notebook that actually brings me joy.

Adobe Digital Editions

I use Adobe Digital Editions to convert .acsm files to ePub when I download books from Kobo.com. (I then run them through Calibre to remove DRM, and then copy the non-DRM version to my RMPP.

Lately, when I open ADE on my Mac I get a message saying that future versions of MacOS will not be able to open ADE (presumably because my version was written for Intel CPU Macs and my Mac is a newer one with the Apple CPU). The message says I should update to a new version of ADE that supports newer CPUs. I have looked for, but cannot find, such a beast.

Does anyone know if there is a version of ADE that supports newer chips? Or is there a way other than using ADE to get from the .acsm file I get from Kobo to an ePub file?

Help/Advice Help! I'm stuck in developer mode and I can't get out!

I tried searching this sub for answers but it just made me more confused. Long story short, I sold my rMPPM so now I need to take it out of dev mode. But the steps listed on the rM website aren't working. Is anyone able to help? I feel so dumb because I did so much research on how to put it into dev mode but now that I need to wipe it, I have no idea what I'm doing.

UPDATE: It worked! I had to force restart before following the software recovery steps outlined here. To force restart: hold down the power button for 10 seconds, wait 5 seconds, then short-press the power button for 2 seconds.

Help/Advice Is Remarkable 2 a good buy in 2026?

I found a second hand Remarkable 2 with keyboard for 240 euros. Is it worth it in 2026? And if it is a good deal, what would I be missing out on compared to newer models? (except for color screen)

webserver-remote android hotspot

I'm not sure if this mod can help me with what I want to do. I would like to expose the USB web interface of my reMarkable Paper Pro when it is connected to the hotspot of my android phone (Samsung S24).

After connecting to the phone I lookup the IP address that the RMPP got and use that in the browser on my phone. I see the connection confirmation dialog on the RMPP and accept the connection. Nothing happens. When I refresh the webpage I get a message "Cannot connect to uri ("127.0.0.1", 81)". I have tried this with Brave browser and the Samsung browser.

So, is this mod suitable for what I want? If yes, what am I doing wrong?

After disabling wifi on the RMPP and connecting it to my Mac via USB, I get the same error message when trying to go to 10.11.99.1 on the browser on the Mac.

The RMPP is running 3.27.1.0 and the mod is installed using reManager

Edit: O man, I'm feeling very stupid now. I had not enabled the USB Web interface in the settings. After enabling it everything works as expected. Sorry for the inconvenience.

General Discussion What is your use case? Finding hard to justify keeping my paper pure

I received a paper pure as a gift and this is my first remarkable note taking device. I typically use for work note taking, meetings, etc. but it just seems like such an expensive piece of device for such a thing that I could do on paper/pen or even OneNote if I’d like to go digital…

What is your use case? Why have you kept your device?

I’m approaching the 50 days return window and thinking about just shipping it back… maybe I’m not the ideal persona for this device?

Shader/Highlighter colour change hacks

I’ve been tinkering with the changeGreenColor hack (thank you to the dev who made that!) to get colours that work better for me* but it seems like the highlighter and shader tools have a different colour set. Does anyone know how to change the colours for those?

* Grey: #4D4D4F, Blue: #191970 (I’m more of a blue-black ink person), Yellow: #F87431 (yes, it’s orange but I never wrote in yellow as it was very low contrast for me). Your mileage may vary depending on your display.

Is there a way (possibly automated) to save a Reddit post along with comments to RM folder to view offline. It would be a one way sync to RM, read-only.

Help/Advice I think my Move has bricked itself

General Discussion Maybe I'm just being a bit cranky...

I'm new to the reMarkable world. I just purchased the Move.

How can a company that prides itself on distraction-free note-taking be so clumsy with their software? The software itself is a distraction.

The devices are great for writing something down. Organizing that writing, however, could not be more cumbersome and counterintuitive.

Am I taking crazy pills? People have been making software, designed to organize things, for decades now. There are best practices. There are half-hearted attempts. And then there's reMarkable software.

It shouldn't be this convoluted in 2026.

/rant

I feel slightly better now. Into the void you go, little post.

Help/Advice Green Ghosting Warranty Return … did you have the issue a 2nd time?

Thumbnail

I’m a lover of these reMarkable devices. Been a fan since their first one…. Still have and use my reMarkable One.

Last October I bought a Paper Pro. I love the color and light. I enjoyed daily use up until a couple of weeks ago when the infamous “Green Ghosting” showed up.

I’m now in the midst of waiting for a replacement… my warranty return and replacement was already approved. I shipped mine back, they got it Friday and they’re saying it can take 2-3 more weeks to get the replacement. I do hope it’s faster than that. Ugh.

Anyway, for anyone who had this Green Ghosting experience…

What was your experience with getting a replacement?

Did you ever have Green Ghosting again, a second time with the replacement? In other words, did your replacement ever start to show Green Ghosting too?Did you have to get another warranty replacement?

Also, I had issues with their website. I had issues with emailing them. It hasn’t exactly been smooth. When I do communicate with a human, they are very nice, but I can’t say it’s been an easy experience to get the replacement (I’m a tech nerd and used to work in IT, so it wasn’t a problem in my end LOL)

Any insights appreciated…

Update: I communicated with a human again at reMarkable and they apologized for the issues I’ve had. They also said my replacement was preparing for shipment. It has a FedEx label number now but hasn’t yet shipped. With any luck I’ll have it before the weekend.

Lack of backlight means the Pure is going back

Man this thing is hard to read without anything but the brightest environment. I'm in my home office, it's raining out and while I have plenty of light in my office, it's just not bright enough to read the Pure. That's a shame. I don't want the color Pro model. Maybe a Scribe?

Help/Advice Ready to buy a Pure but...

I want to take meeting notes, can't type fast enough or have my laptop all the time.

My only requirement is to convert writing to text and have the ability to paste the text in Word afterwards.

Can this be done with no subscription?

Paper Pro Move battery issues

Is anyone else having battery life issues with their Paper Pro Move lately? I have had the Move for about six months. Initially the battery would easily last through the work week, but I noticed last week that my battery seemed lower than normal. I fully charged on Saturday and only used it briefly yesterday and my battery was down to 60% this morning. It did just install an update so I'll see if that fixes it, but I wanted to see if any other Move users have had sudden battery issues.

Chisel tip writing tool mod?

I'm a fountain pen enthusiast and I've been pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoy writing with the calligraphy pen on my RM2. It does a pretty good job replicating a flex nib pen. Even better since I'm a lefty and I can write in my normal hand-on-top way and it still works, without the mess.

My preferred fountain pen nib is a stub... essentially a chisel-tip pen. Makes thin lines if you move side-to-side, fat lines if you move up and down. It relies on the shape of the tip rather than flex to make thin/fat lines.

Is there any option (hack/mod) that replicates this line style?

Self-Promotion Sudoku Generator for Paper Pro Move

Hi community,

I was browsing through the internet to find printable Sudoku for my Paper Pro Move, but most of them are only available in A4 size. So, I made a simple website to generate Sudoku PDF with resolution of Paper Pro Move. I'm sharing it here in case someone else also finds it useful. It's open-source and always free.

Sudoku PDF Generator — reMarkable Paper Pro Move

Website screenshot

If you have a different tablet, you can also select a different preset, but it's of course optimized for Paper Pro Move.

I added buttons to jump between a puzzle and the solution page.

Quick navigation with buttons

Let me know if you have any comments or suggestions.

Have fun :)

Self-Promotion Document Viewer for rmfakecloud with annotated PDF and .rm support.

rm-render

I cobbled together a document viewer for rmfakecloud that digests and displays annotated PDFs and .rm files. It runs a small, read-only nginx server locally and allows viewing of your documents as PDFs in a mobile-friendly way. It uses a systemd service to watch rmfakecloud documents and updates the PDFs as they are modified.

Internal PDF links work as expected and annotations are largely aligned with the underlying PDFs in most cases. I struggled to get the math right on this so your mileage may vary.

I VPN into my LAN and view documents when I'm away from home on mobile.

There's zero authentication and it most definitely has not been security audited. I heavily leaned on Claude to get this working. By default it skips rendering large PDFs, but you can control this behavior in the unit file.

Feature Request Rename layers

It would be really great to be able to rename the various layers as you create them. It is very useful when there are a lot of them; otherwise, figuring out which layer contains what becomes very frustrating.

Update: This feature already exists. I didn't notice it because I was probably holding down the layer for a short time. Fixed.

Self-Promotion Hi, I'll share my template with you.

I really like that it now has a screenshot feature.I always split my notebook in half—using the left side for organized notes and the right side for jottings or free-form writing—so I’ve set this up as a template. Since the screenshot feature was added, I’ve arranged it so I can use stickers on the bottom part that gets cropped out anyway. I’m posting this in case anyone else might find it useful.Just for reference, I only adjusted the size to fit the "Move" field, and while I think you could probably just insert a PDF or image, I used RCU to add it as a template. I think I'll probably keep using this template from now on.
