The story is that someone at this one LGS that I frequent happened to buy 3 of the same Evangelion Starter deck but only took kept 1 card and put the rest of the deck in the store’s bulk bin. Crazy as it sounds, yes I basically got a deck minus 1 card entirely for free

The Rei smiling scene during episode 6 of Neon Genesis Evangelion is a small moment with so much beauty and meaning I love it so much. I’m rewatching the show for the first time after completing it a few months ago and this scene genuinely almost made me cry. This moment is so important for both Shinji and Rei. Shinji has an amazing development as he finally dos a heroic act he thought he was too cowardice to do(perhaps his first crack of hedgehogs dilemma), and Rei for the first time in the series shows genuine emotion and connection with someone other than Gendo. Shinji saving Rei heavily mirrors Gendo saving Rei earlier in the series(flash back of Eva 00 test footage), once Rei sees this connection it allows her to feel connection with Shinji the same way she felt it with Gendo. As Rei’s first genuine connection with a peer I don’t think this scene could be any more beautiful. This is also in some way a reuniting of Shinjis mom and dad through Rei and Shinji except they are both their own people not merely mirrors of Shinjis parens. This scene is beautiful and will always be one of my favorites. This show makes me feel things no other show or movie makes me feel, it’s so wholesome at times like these while still being so complex and. Sad sometimes. Some people never like the show as much as I do and I feel like almost no one feels exactly I do when I watch the show and that’s kinda what the whole show. Some shows I just like but the shows that really touch me like this show will never be topped in my head and this scene is the encapsulation of that for me.
