Can I still register for classes after my time ticket ended? (RPI SIS incoming Freshman)

Thumbnail gallery

I noticed that the BIOL 2125 lab section that would make my schedule work much better now has two seats open. If I can get into that lab, I would also be able to register for BIOL 2120 and rearrange my schedule.

However, I thought my registration time ticket was only from July 13–17. SIS is still showing that I may be able to register, but I’m not sure whether the time ticket restriction still applies.

The problem is that I would need to drop PHYS 1200 before adding BIOL 2120 and BIOL 2125. I don’t want to drop Physics and then discover that SIS won’t let me register for the Biology courses because my time ticket has ended.

Does anyone know whether RPI students can still register or make schedule changes after their time ticket closes? Should I drop Physics first, or is there a way to add the Biology courses before dropping it?

Course Question / Schedule Question

Post image

Hello, I'm an incoming freshman to RPI and I'm just wondering about the total workload I'm going to be facing with this schedule. To anyone who has taken some of these classes, Could you share some information about the workload and how many hours I'm going to have to actually put into each of these classes? I do want some resemblance of a social life at RPI and I'm scared I'm gonna to be swamped with work.

Also just some information, I'm already familiar with Calc II & Comp Sci I esp Python, and I'm taking Physics 2 in the Spring since I couldn't fit it in my schedule. I'm also planning on double majoring in EE & Aero E with getting it done asap (Hopefully 4 years).

Any response would be greatly appreciated, And feel free to criticize anything you see in here because I may just be way over my head here who knows.

Question Quality of drinking water on campus

Saw posts on poor water quality from faucets and fountains from a few years ago. How is the quality of drinking water these days?

Is this a good CS freshman schedule??

Freshman CS major :)

Physics classes were all filled so I’m hoping to take biology in the fall to fulfill my course requirements + drop one of my HASS electives. Should I change anything around? Also I have ~10 credits from APs so could I just skip HASS electives altogether to free up my schedule even more?

Bucket List Books: New First-Year Inquiry Course in Spring 2027

Post image
17 Upvotes

A new first-year INQR course is coming to RPI in spring 2027.

The premise is simple: read some of the best works of literature ever written (and view their recent adaptations) and figure out why reading them today still matters.

Replacing an older intro to literature course, this class is for first-year students who begin at RPI in fall 2026. It ensures they can take literature without competing for enrollment with other students. It is ideal for anyone who wants to continue studying English while at RPI, wants to improve their writing by orders of magnitude, or wants to expand their cultural knowledge by reading some "classic" works of literature.

Satisfies INQR requirement and confers Communication Intensive credit.

Interested students can reach out to Dr. Murray at [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) for more information.

Question How realistic is it to balance engineering classes, sports, clubs, and a part-time job at RPI?

I am transferring to RPI in the fall and was wondering how manageable it is to balance classes with a sport (like wrestling or judo), engineering clubs, and a part-time job (15–30 hrs/week). Is this realistic, or does the workload make it difficult?

Discussion Schedule check

Really had to rush these decisions since I was pushing the registration deadline, I went and skipped CSCI 1100 and ESCE 1010 since I had the AP credits to do so.

What should I expect my days to feel like with this schedule? What changes would you recommend if any?

Standard?

I did some planning, and I feel like this is the best schedule I could come up with for my fall 2026 agenda as a freshman. With Mechanical Engineering, I'm aware of the rigorous nature that comes with the major, so I was wondering if this was a "normal" schedule?

What do you think about it? I've spoken with one of my advisors and they gave the greenlight, but I wanted some opinions, so feel free to let me know. Thanks!

ECSE outcomes

How are people who have graduated from ECSE (specifically CSE) doing post-graduation? I'm honestly terrified of the job market and am a rising Junior. I took courses this summer due to no internship and my GPA will likely improve but I am currently around a 2.63. I'm honestly just a horrible exam taker and some classes like Physics II really kicked my ass. I have taken advantage of as many resources as possible and have spent many nights at ALAC since Freshman year. I know that I still have some time to improve, but I am disappointed in myself. Lower GPA has cost me some opportunities, like being able to apply for internships and organizations. I had an interview with Engineering Ambassadors a few months ago and despite it going pretty well I think my GPA may have been one of the reasons they didn't accept me.

I've considered staying an extra semester (especially because I've failed/dropped some courses) to improve my GPA if needed. I've seen jobs that still require a 3.0 even after years of experience and I don't want to take the chance of being filtered out after spending so much time, money, and energy on this degree. I know GPA doesn't matter as much for jobs compared to internships, but it seems like a very weird combination of some places caring so much they won't even look at your resume to others not caring at all.

I've been working on some projects over the summer, but I've barely touched extracurriculars since becoming a student here due to being so stressed and overloaded at times. I know what I was getting myself into when I chose this school, but I can't help but be disappointed in myself. I've had trouble going to sleep at nights and have woken up in a panic due to the uncertainty of the future. Apologies if this post was a bit rambly, but some advice would be appreciated.

Question Architecture or engineering?

For the last two years of high-school I’ve been conflicted between pursuing architecture or either electrical or mechanical engineering.

From what I’m looking at it seems like going for engineering is a better bang for my buck but I feel like I’ve already instilled myself as an architecture student as Im admitted as one and have portfolio work. Also it’s come to my attention that RPI is known for their engineering over than architecture programs.

I haven’t made my schedule yet as I can still change my major, I’ll my schedule tomorrow but do you guys have any takes or suggestions about this?

Question Is this schedule too much? I know I have an 8 AM class and I know I'm going to regret it but I think maybe having no Fridays pays off?

Calling all LGBTQ+ alumni and soon-to-be-alumni!

I'm part of an active affinity group for LGBTQ+ RPI alumni. We meet monthly on Teams and talk potential programming and share the experiences we had at RPI and beyond. It's an awesome group with a variety of ages, though I'd personally say we don't have as many people younger than me as I'd like!

We're looking for more members. Check out the links below for some ways to get involved.

Question IEA vs Essence of Engr

Class of ‘24, I was helping my brother sign up for Freshman classes and they replaced IEA??? What is the difference between the curriculum of ENGR-1100 and ENGR-1010. Did they dumb it down or just rename it?
